Questions

- Does this game have PvP? What form does it take, open-world PvP, arenas, etc.?

- Can I do everything with a single character, or do I need to reroll to try out other classes, professions, etc.?

- Is there any group content?

- Is there a cash shop in the game?

The eternal search for a classic MMO

I'm only looking for 3 things:

- Slow pace in general, whether it's leveling or movement speed

- Having to travel to dungeons on foot, no magic teleportation through a window

- Not being able to do everything with a single character, forcing you to reroll if you want to discover new classes

Basically I just described Wow Classic/Vanilla, but I've really burned myself out on it, I've got 5 level 60 characters and aside from grinding raids on repeat trying to snag the few pieces of gear I'm still missing, I'm looking for something fresh.

Pantheon Rise of the Fallen, I've played quite a bit of it too, waiting on the next big update but not sure I'll get hooked on the game again.

Embers Adrift, played a lot at launch, unfortunately it's really dead/empty now.

OSRS, never really got into it, I've never felt so alone in an mmo, plus the graphics take some getting used to.

Basically I'm looking for a classic/old-school mmo, but one that isn't 20 years old, something a bit fresher.

The one I'm most looking forward to right now is Adrullan Online, but until I've actually tried it, I can't know if it'll be a good fit for me.

Builds on Wowhead are shown for Season of Mastery

Can I assume that everything valid for SoM also applies to Wow Vanilla/Era?
I'm mainly talking about talents and BiS.

Finding quests

Can I assume that if I 'Hail' an npc and they don't respond, then they have no quests for me?
Or do I need to ask every npc if I can do something for them to find out whether they have a quest to offer?

I just found out this game exists

So I happened to come across the website, and I saw that the open beta starts tomorrow with a full release in 1 month. The good news is I don't have to wait months or years to play since I wasn't even aware of it, but the downside is it seems like a very quiet launch, absolutely no advertising anywhere.

Also, I don't know anything about Everquest, I'm just looking for an oldschool/classic/slow-paced mmo, and when it comes to mmos I'm very picky about certain things. Among the points I'm uncompromising on:

- No excessive teleportation to the other side of the world. Teleportation needs to be very limited and always justified in an RP way (for example: teleport runes that are expensive and only usable by mages, or a hearthstone with a VERY long cooldown)

- No automatic teleportation to dungeons: I have to find a group, through chat or an LFG system, and I have to travel there on foot.

- A generally slow pace, I don't want to play an action game with constant dodge-rolling.

- And there's one last point I really care about: not being able to do everything with a single character. Because I love RP, I love embodying different personalities, sometimes an elf mastering archery, sometimes an old human mage, sometimes a sturdy brawling dwarf...
It lets you mix things up, have different gameplay styles, etc.
And on that point, I saw in the FAQ that you'd only be allowed one character per server. That last point bothers me a lot. I'm still going to play during the open beta, but it'll be the deciding factor for whether I keep going with this game or not.

Very few mmos meet these criteria, which is why I've been stuck on wow Classic since it came out...
I tried Monsters and Memories, but I can't say I had a great time with it: having to talk to npcs through chat might sound fine on paper, but I found it kind of a pain, or the UI being annoying sometimes just for the sake of it, like having to hold right-click on abilities to see their description, when you have to choose from a list of 100, instead of spending a few minutes on it you spend hours.

I'd never played the original Everquest because it's a bit too old at this point, something like 20 expansions, not very appealing graphics, a cash shop that doesn't always have a great reputation...
I probably would have enjoyed it back in its day, but I missed that train.

I'm especially worried about the last point I mentioned about rerolling because even though I don't think I'm part of the majority, it's something I care about a lot.

TL;DR: I'm a reroll addict, and this game doesn't encourage that at all due to the one-character-per-server limit. This worries me when it comes to whether this will be my next long-term mmo.

Questions

- Can I learn all the trade skills with one character? If not, what's the max number of trade skills I can have on one character?

- Can you modify the choices you made at character creation, deity, stat points, traits, looks, etc.

- On the character selection screen, if I click the campfire a bunch of times, a mysterious little jingle plays. Is there something hidden there?

I'm done with the HyperX Cloud

This is my 3rd one, version 2. After just a year, the ear pads are already falling apart, and the headband doesn't hold up anymore, I have to patch it with tape. After 2 years: done, the headset just dies. I was pretty happy with the sound quality though, which is why I kept buying another one each time.

So what brand/model should I look at for similar sound quality? It would mainly be for gaming, so it needs a mic too, budget around 100 euros (or dollars).

Thanks

I'm in a vicious cycle with WoW

I know this post is not going to make me any friends, but this is exactly why I can't stick with wow for the long term.

I'm not interested in wow SoD because it's only a temporary trend and won't last for years.

Which MMO should I choose between these 3?

Pax Dei - The Quinfall - Throne and Liberty

Here are the criteria I'm looking for:

- Mainly focused on PvE. PvP can be present if it's optional and isn't the core of the game.

- No teleporting to the other side of the world with a simple click. If there is teleportation or fast travel, it must be very limited or justified in an RP way (for example Gryphons in WoW Classic).

- No teleporting directly into instances. I need to find a group and travel to the dungeon by my own means.

- Subscription is fine, a cash shop much less so. So if there is a cash shop, it shouldn't be abusive/intrusive.

- Slower-paced rather than action-oriented. The combat system doesn't matter much, tab-targeting or otherwise, but not a frantic combat rhythm.

I know this could match mmos like Wow Classic, Pantheon, Lotro, etc. But I'm looking for mmos with more modern/realistic graphics. I'm open to other mmos beyond this list if they match my criteria.

After trying M&M, I realize that Pantheon isn't all that great

I'm talking about Pantheon because it's the last mmo I got invested in (1,200 hours).
The only thing Pantheon really has going for it is the climbing system.

The fact that you have to talk to npcs using /say genuinely adds something, even if I can see how it might get annoying over time. You can imagine all kinds of hidden things that only trigger with certain keywords in certain places.

I haven't played much, I just wandered around town a bit and did a quick exploration. Either way, I won't have much time to play during this open beta week, but I already know that once it's open to the public, it'll be my next mmo.

It seems like it ticks all the boxes I look for in old-school mmos:
Having to do research and investigation to progress (even if you can bet that all the information will quickly be findable online).
Slow but earned and satisfying progression.
I've always been in favor of subscriptions, as long as nothing is sold through a cash shop (except services, like server transfers, etc.).
I've always been against mods in multiplayer games, which is probably my main reason for no longer playing wow Classic, and apparently the devs have a very strict policy against mods, let's hope they stick to it.
The graphics are a bit rough at first, but you get used to them quickly, what matters is that the game has charm and identity.
Character customization seems deep enough to fine-tune your build in a DnD-like way, though I worry that in the future a lot of it will be driven by meta optimization.

What more could I ask for? RP servers? Maybe the game won't even need them.

It feels good to be lost in a game, it's been a long time since that happened to me.

I consider myself a demanding player with particular tastes, a single detail can ruin my enjoyment of games that are otherwise good. Here, you adapt to the world. There are still a lot of things I haven't figured out yet, and I do have a few concerns, for instance I noticed you can buy houses in town, but we already know that kind of thing will be reserved for the hardcore players who have all the time in the world to invest. We'll see.

In any case, they can count me as a future committed player.

I love Palia but its cash shop is ruining it for me. Any alternatives?

I really enjoy Palia, but I find the cash shop very off-putting. What alternatives would be closest to it?

I'm fine with buying a game, I'm fine with paying a subscription, I'm fine with a non-abusive cash shop, but Palia's cash shop feels very intrusive to me. Every update seems focused on finding new ways to squeeze money out of players. It's a shame because I really love the game.

Do healers have high pressure in hardcore?

I feel like trying Wow hardcore as a healer, but I'm not completely at ease with the idea.
Knowing that my main in Classic is a priest healer, so I'm no stranger to the role.

Could this be my new place?

Thousands of hours on WoW Classic, I'm leaving because Blizzard is too greedy.
Thousands of hours on Pantheon, I'm leaving because the devs have no sense of priorities and are dreadfully slow, in 15 years the game still won't be finished.
Thousands of hours on Embers Adrift, I'm leaving because the game is a ghost town.

Today I'm downloading Monsters and Memories, could this be the one and for a long time?
I'm a PvE player at heart, if endgame is all about PvP, it's likely not for me.

Which game should I play next from my list?

Since I don't have much time to play, finishing one game can take me months.

In the end, I'm just looking for a good story to follow, like an interactive movie where I'm the hero (Baldur's Gate 3 is wonderful for that), gameplay is somewhat secondary.

If I only give the name of a franchise instead of a specific game, it means I plan to start from the very first one in the series, and continue through to the last (assuming I enjoy it).

Clair obscur
MGS Delta
STALKER
Splinter cell
God of War
Fable
ME Andromeda

- Old RPGs:
Neverwinter
Divinity
Two World
Gothic
Risen

PvE COOP FPS games known for their difficulty?

I know there are many PVE FPS COOP games, but I'm looking for games that require a minimum of preparation, tactics, communication, rather slow pace with moments of action.

Games like Ready or Not, Six Days in Fallujah, GTFO

It's unfortunate because I wanted to continue Z'rell's quest and help Marcus at Last Light. I find it surprising that the game sends us first to the Gauntlet of Shar, which feels more like the zone's endgame. The reverse order would have made more sense.

But at that point we already know that if we want to escape or control the Absolute we need to kill Ketheric, that he draws his immortality from the Nightsong, and Balthazar gives us the last piece of information needed to find her.

I see no reason to keep him alive at this point.
