This is my first year working in the DOE In a fourth grade ICT, and I find that my students listen to my co teacher more than me. Whenever I teach a lesson, I feel like I’m losing them and it’s hard to keep them to pay attention to me.

Theres always a few students in the class that will continuously laugh and act silly. And my other class, I have students physically fighting each other or calling out. Whenever my co teacher leaves the class, the students begin to act up.

I try my best to be stern with the students and sometimes I will not smile at them and give them a serious look if they are acting up. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Is this typical? How can I improve? I feel like I’m doing an awful job.

I’ve been trying my best emphasizing the importance of routine and structure, but how do I get my students from talking and fooling around during instruction? I’m in 4th grade

This will be my first DOE job working in a fourth grade ICT. I’ll have a co teacher. My co teacher has been there for years. We connected about a week ago and she’s very nice. She set up the classroom and when I asked if there is anything I can do to prepare, she said she will try to get the material for the first week.

I still feel like I should do something. Should I print out any activities for the students? Create some slides? I got a shit ton of supplies that my co teacher told me I do not need. I will be seeing my co teacher tomorrow so hopefully I’ll get some clarification on how to prepare before Thursday.

This will be my first year in the DOE. I did my salary differential a few weeks and I know it takes a while, but somebody told me that I won’t get my first paycheck until October. But I also received an email from my job that I’ll be getting paid September 15th with a physical check, rather than direct deposit, even though I already did my direct deposit form.

What are some good ideas to do on the first two days of school for a 4th grade ELA class?

I previously worked in pre k as a special Ed teacher in a private school. Now, I will be working in a 4th grade classroom ICT so I’ll have a co teacher with me. I’ll be in the DOE.

I’m pretty nervous and feel that I have no idea what I am doing. Is it normal to feel this way in the beginning? Luckily I have a team that is very supportive and collaborative. I’m nervous for many things: behaviors, setting structure, and teaching the curriculum.

I’ll be attending the district day tomorrow and will have a PD day at my own school on Thursday along with two PD days next week.

This will be my first fourth grade teaching position in an ELA ICT classroom. I will also have a special Ed co teacher with me. I’ll have two ELA classes throughout the day. The first two days of school will be on Thursday and Friday.

What do you usually do the first two days of school? I was thinking of going over procedures/structure along with creating their own name tags and maybe a writing prompt.

Also, I have never had a co teacher before. What does that look like throughout the school year?

I am starting my first DOE job next month and have to apply for the health insurance. Can I add my fiancé even though we are not married yet?

Also, how is the health insurance?

I (F30) went to a dermatologist today for a full body skin cancer screening. I went 3 years ago but the dermatologist moved away.

I explained to the dermatologist today that I have moles that keep appearing on my face and getting bigger. He did a full body screening but it seemed quite rushed. He didn’t check all parts of my body (hands, feet, neck) and did not use a flashlight/magnifying glass (not exactly sure if this a requirement). He just quickly skimmed the body. He told me that I’m young and that I don’t necessarily need to go for these screenings and to wait until I’m older; specially 40-50 years old. I always assumed early signs of skin cancer can happen at any age and since I have frequent amount of moles on my body, I figured why not.

I left pretty confused and felt like I wasted my time because he looked very briefly.

I’d like to get a second opinion eventually but I’m not sure with my insurance. Is this normal for a full skin cancer screening?

The first week of school for students is two days long, how can I implement rules, routines, and structure.

What do you usually do on the first day of school?

Do I have to attend the teacher orientation and District 12 orientation on September 1st and 2nd? What if you cannot attend the dates?

I thought the school I am going to, was going to do their own trainings prior to the school year?

I got my official welcome email two days ago. When do I get my DOE email? How do I set it up?

This will be my first year working as a 4th grade teacher in an ICT teacher. I will also be having a co-teacher which is something I never experienced before, as this is my first elementary teaching position. I’ve only taught preschool.

I will only be teaching ELA to a morning and afternoon class. I’m excited to have a co-teacher to learn from and collaborate with.

What is co-teaching like? How do you go about teaching lessons? How is it also working in fourth grade?

Hello! I’ve always worked with early childhood but I’ve been offered a 4th grade ICT class position. I am really excited to try a different grade but pretty nervous as I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve looked at the curriculum already and will be given a mentor teacher that is on my team and a cooperating teacher.

What is it like working for fourth grade? What do you usually do with them on the first day of school? How can I prepare during the summer?

I received a phone call last week for a job offer, I said yes and gave them my social. I sent questions to the VP regarding what following steps I need to do to complete, he responded and I recieved a DOE nomination email.

I have to complete what is required of me through the nomination email and do some finger printing. Does this mean it is official? Will I be receiving a formal letter at all?

I accepted a job offer by the phone for a DOE teaching position. I currently work at a private school and received an email from the DOE to do fingerprinting and fill out a form.

When do I officially tell my current job that I will not be returning? Can I tell them now or wait?

Today I got offered a teaching position that I said yes to, but I have a demo for another teaching position next week.

The second school with the demo, is a bit closer to home and could be a Kindergarten position, which is more ideal to me but they could be offering me 5th grade.

What should I do? Both schools would be a good experience got me.

Just had an interview for K or 5th grade teaching position and now being asked to do a 2nd grade ELA position. I currently teach preschool and only have done my student teaching in K and 3rd grade.
