Adjusting my Compaq 7550, trouble with calibrating brightness vs contrast

So it's hard to get it to translate what I am seeing vs. what my camera sees. But I am trying to find a balance between too dark and too bright. I have been using pure black test patterns and feel like I have it somewhere I am satisfied with but will need to tweak further when it gets dark. ( I had the monitor on my dining room table, so I was letting my kid watch cartoons for a bit between adjustments, will mess with it more later tonight.

My first CRT PC Monitor (:

Messed a bit with the brightness contrast and temperature settings. So far, I have only done web-surfing or watching videos. Gonna boot up retroarch or Xenia-canary and get it really dialed in. Im currently using a STARTECH DisplayPort->VGA adapter and then have a USB-C->DisplayPort so I can use this with both my 3050 laptop and my desktop with a 5070Ti. Far from ideal, but outside of GPU pass through, this is the best solution I have for getting a CRT to play with modern machines.

Samsui TVS273 has white horizontal lines on top of screen? Hooked up on component.

This gutted trinitron @ Monterey Bay Aquarium:(

100% just the front bezel placed in front of a modern display. I have a feeling like if this was at one time an actual CRT, the tube burned out long ago.

Scored a grandma's karaoke machine screen today (: hoping for low hours!

My friends grandma was trying to get rid of some old tv's. This was only ever used for her karaoke machine (: gonna pair up my universal remote to it and check the service menu if I can (: gonna hook my wii up to this on my desk soon. I have a larger set with component for my garage and a crt computer monitor. I think for now I have all my retro-gaming bases covered (:

Stupid hypothetical... "DIY" crt?

So I have been looking online, there is ONE single company (Thomas Global Systems) that at least refreshes modern CRT displays, often color ones; for legacy avionics control surface displays...

They are high clarity, compact and military spec... now, im unsure how I would go about finding a specific airframe to cannibalize for a 4-9 inch CRT display, let alone how I would hook up and program an FPGA to allow this monitor to accept standard consumer grade analog inputs and or HDMI, and then assemble all of that into a neat package for what I am hoping to be a compact near PVM grade display...

From what I am reading, most if not all CRT's use the same 525-625 scanlines per image "resolution", so how realistic would it be to assume that I could one day make my own compact CRT monitor/ TV with an aviation grade crt display?

This to me seems like the best way to get a "newer" manufactured tube... and the only way to get a newly manufactured tube but from what I am reading, the two most common aircraft with CRT displays outside of legacy commercial airliners would be the F16/F18 😅

MSI RTX 4070Ti will post but shuts down as soon as a large load is put on the card or after staying on desktop for too lon

So months ago, I got an MSI RTX4070Ti, and I never got it to work or could figure out what happened. I tried to get in contact with the original seller, but the RMA window has closed regardless.

When I installed the card it would post with no issues, but the second I would put a load on the card with FurMark, it looked like the GPU would power down and cause the system to reset. I tried two different PC's with three different PSU's I noticed that occasionally, it wouldn't post immediately after a crash/ reset and because it would post if you waited about five minutes i wondered if it could be a thermal issue.

Thinking that it could be overheating, I took the heatsink off and repasted the GPU and tried to reinstall it. I opened the event viewer and couldn't see any errors that would cause the hiccups I have.

I have a multi-meter and am patient. I am unsure what the problem could be as I have only built three computers in my life. If anyone could help me figure out what is wrong with my GPU so I can decide if I wanna get it repaired, if I can do it myself or I should just sell fir parts.

It has been a couple months since I last trade to do any testing on that specific GPU, but I can provide pics or videos for whatever you guys need to help me.

I have a 5070Ti in my PC right now, so I dont absolutely need this 4070Ti to work, but I want to know what was wrong with it. I live in the Central Valley area in California, and there aren't many shops I could take this thing to to get it diagnosed. I'd love to have this as a backup card or be able to gift it to a friend who needs an upgrade if I dont need to sell it for parts.

How difficult is it to replace the screen lens/ polarizer film on AGS001's?

**TEDTalk level yapping below. Skip to TL;DR for questions**

I recently added this guy to the collection because the screens are visible in all lighting conditions

. I actually use/ play my handhelds and I have been nervous about my extremerate AGB001 because i just learned the shells are painted and dont wanna damage the metallic iridescent paint.

I saw this on FB marketplace, and it came with a charger and a game cart with a Pokemon Blue Rom Hack. The seller had beat the game and was confident it worked... upon further testing with my EZ-FLASH ODE l, I realize the right shoulder button is not registering inputs, and I see there are a couple of white spots on the LCD and many scratches on the plastic lens.

So, initially, I just wanted to tear down, clean, and do a shell swap on this guy, but now I may need to break out the soldering iron...

So my question(s) For the trouble it would take to replace the polarizer film and plastic lense, would it be easier/ less stressful to just buy a refurbished AGS001 screen? To that end, how do glass screem lenses impact the level of glare in sunlight or the way the panel looks in other lighting conditions?

I kinda wanted to just get a soft-touch black shell for this thing and use it as my edc. I play my AGB or my DSLite at work and while they're either in a soft case/ zipper bag or a clamshell design that protects the screen respectively, they do take up a lot of pocket real-estate or space in a backpack for something that may not be used daily, and for a max of 15-45 minutes a day. The SP fits into my pockets next to my phone more comfortably than my AGB, DS Lite, and especially the r36s.

With the front-lit screen, while it doesn't look stunning in pitch blackness and very muted in general compared to modern displays, it's truly visible in ALL lighting conditions. My DS Lite isn't awful in sunlight, but you can't really change brightness settings without restarting the console. My AGB001 has an ITA screen, which looks great, but catches glare easily and gets washed out in sunlight easily. My job has me taking shifts in the daylight and moonlight hours, and I dont like driving on roadtrips. The AGS001 is the only screen with which I wouldn't constantly have to screw with settings to get a clear picture...

SO

TL;DR: I want to fix/ repair this SP to use as my EDC pocket console. How stressful is replacing polarizer film/ lens? Would it be simpler to buy a new/refurbished AGS001 screen? How do glass lenses stack up to OEM plastic in different lighting conditions?

Picked up an AGS001... are these scratches on the lens or do I need a new screen??

So I recently modded out my DS lite with extremerate shell and an AGB001 with an extremerate shell, amplifier and ITA screen.

I originally wanted to just do a shell swap on this and keep the AGS001 screen installed because it has the best battery life and is visible in all lighting conditions. As I mainly use flash-carts, energy efficiency is a top priority.

After booting it up and testing a bit, I see that I need to install new L/R buttons, "L" works, but "R" does not register even if it clicks.

With the screen off, there are a few scratches visible, but when the screen is powered on, there are very clearly some white specks or artifacts on the screen.

So, my question. Should I just get a laminated screen kit for this with a proprietary shell? Or go through the trouble of replacing the lens on 20+ year old LCD?

Im already pretty sure im going to end up collecting at least one or two more GBA SP's. One to keep "stock" and another ITA build or a shell-swapped AGS101.

My GF is trying to give her build FNAF theme

Im gonna tweak the RGB settings on her GPU and fan to be more yellow/ red than default/ current settings. I kinda of wanna turn the banner at the bottom into a vinyl and wrap the PSU basement and possibly a white checkerboard on the entire back of the case where the mobo standoffs are... but for just adding in a banner and figures, how did she do?

Finally get to start the campaign for this absolute gem

Took me a couple of weeks playing less than an hour at a time except for a single 2 hour road trip, but now I get to start the campaign, and I am excited being one step closer to beating this and moving onto the sequels 🤩

Im at the point where I prefer using my modded gba, DS, or r36s for gaming *substantially* more than my phone. While modern phone games are often more graphically impressive, I just feel like the GBA and DS libraries habe so much more though put into the world's than most android apps. Also, I dont need internet, and the only "updates" are when I add more ROMS to my EZ-FLASH or update firmware.

The GBA is definitely not powerful hardware by today's standards, but the quality of the games developed for it are so well thought out and often have such high replayability that they stand the test of time and are still easy to play as a modern gamer, and compared to most early mobile games the GBA dominates in terms of pure enjoyment.

I also feel like having a dedicated device to play games on is better than using a phone just for battery reasons, but regardless, the Gameboy is timeless.

So ever since I got back into gaming handhelds, I have been super nervous to drop any of my devices. The R36S is very fragile, and while the GBA has decent durability... I dont wanna scratch up the new pretty shell or damage the backlit display, and I want to use these in more places than just my bed, at a desk/table, or sitting on the couch.

My main concern with these isn't so much it just slipping from my hands, but specifically being bumped by a friend or animal and having whatever is in my hands crash to the floor.

By adding lanyards/ wrist straps, your device is tethered to your wrist, and while it isn't impossible to drop your handheld with a lanyard, it is substantially less likely.

If I am using a device regularly, it's got a lanyard, I had to get a bit creative and use the vent holes on the bottom of my r36s but most Nintendo handhelds up to the switch have some way to add one (:

So I recently got back into playing GameBoyAdvance, mainly at work during breaks. I have an EZFLASH ODE already, but the authentic carts have much better battery life.

Most of the cheaper legit carts around me are often beaten up or missing labels. What are people's opinions on shell swapping and getting custom labels for your own **personal** game collection? I know it should be a priority to maintain authentic hardware, but if its too far gone and it only for yourself, what's your take?

All three of these devices take turns coming to work with me or on long road trips/ vacations.

I like the R36S just for the sheer amount of systems it has on it, and if i lose it, it's not heartbreaking. However, my DS Lite and especially my custom Gameboy trade spaces for my favorite EDC.

The DS has a stellar game library, but GBA emulation is less than perfect with my DS Pico and GBA Runner, and my EZ-FLASH ODE doesn't sit flush in slot 2, so I got a dedicated GBA for Gameboy family titles, might possibly get an EZ-FLASH Junior or dedicated flash carts for a few GBC rom-hacks, but for now this is all I want or need for handheld entertainment.

In the future, I might get a DSi XL or LL and mod it so I can play DS games and emulate GBA/GB/GBC all in one console, and let the two customs stay at home on shelves when not in use. I never had a 3ds, and I feel like for $350+, I'd be better off getting a more powerful emulator handheld /handheld PC like an AYN Thor or RP5... something that I could stream modded fallout NV from my PC on and hook a controller to, possibly with two screens for emulation if I ever want to see if dropping on a 3DS/2DS is worth it...

So, I did a shell swap on my DS recently. I forgot to take the border off the lower screen, and i didn't trim the shoulder buttons at all just like I did when building my GF's console, but my L button is sticky as all hell.

After trying every suggested fix, I realized that the actual metal rod that the spring wraps around and that keeps the shoulder button in place has a bit of play left to right in the notch that is supposed to keep it at a perfect 90° angle to the bottom and top of the lower shell. Thankfully, I have a clear shell and can notice the rod moving a hair while the other one is rock solid. I noticed the pin fell through the left trigger a lot easier than the right one, and it is easy to see now that its because the trigger rod!

So before you swap shells or buttons, try a new pin/ rod. That may be the issue!
