I personally don’t let people use it. Since our cubby’s are in the bathroom, and because of back stock.

I’ve seen where employees at different stores do, but stand outside the bathroom while they use it. And look around the back bathroom when they leave to make sure the person didn’t steal.

The policy says under no circumstances customers or even family or friends are allowed in the back or employees only areas. Which makes no sense to let people use our bathroom.

It makes me annoyed when people ask us if we have a bathroom when we have a restaurant right next door with a public restroom.

Only reason I personally would allow it is if somebody started their period, is bleeding through or desperately needs a pad. Something like that. Other than that, no.

Also been seeing more things about people hiding cameras in bathrooms, purposely messing up bathrooms, using it and leaving their shit and piss everywhere and stealing stuff. I don’t trust people using ours for this reason.

Earlier one the girls let customers use it, a male used it. When I had to use the bathroom next he got piss on the floor. It was dry by the time I noticed. Now my shoes are sticky. This is why I don’t let people use ours.

Anyways, is letting people use it allowed? Don’t see it specifically mentioned in policy. Just to not let anyone but us in the back. Also wondering so other employees don’t get in trouble.

If a customer complains about this to us, it’s ALWAYS their own error. They get 30+ volume for a dye or bleach, on already bleached hair. We correct them on the right volume. They ignore us and buy what they got, then come back and blame us.

I’ve seen this at other stores too. Person chooses the color on their own, then blames the employee.

At my location, we always say to do a test strand. While we make the suggestion, when we ring them up and when they leave. Whenever somebody asks me “will it be this color?” “Will I have damage?” “Will it show up?” I always tell them “It depends on your hair type and hair health, it’s not a guarantee it will turn out exactly as the swatch. That’s why a test strand is important.” I also remind them that instructions are on the box whenever they ask me how to use it. I give my advice and directions, but still mention to check the instructions to be on the safe side.

Of course, there are employees that suggest the wrong thing. I’ve seen customers come in telling me an employee told them to use a 40 on their brown virgin hair, semi permanents on dark hair, wrong developer for dyes, and wrong steps. I have some that even come in when I’m there since I have helped them fix their hair.

But there are those that lie about their errors and blame the employees instead of owning up to their own mistakes.

1. We always say to test strand.

2. We didn’t do your hair at home.

3. You CHOSE to buy the dye, and CHOSE to not follow directions. Nobody forced you.

Anyway, rant of the day.

I’m a retail worker. I also work in a store that has corrosive and toxic chemicals in within reach. (Developers, peroxide, acetone, alcohol, bleach, and products that contain other chemicals that can cause harm).

There have been a few instances where I had to tell parents that their toddlers were picking up the bottles of these chemicals. Some of these bottles can be busted if they are dropped, which has happened to myself a few times. Toddlers and younger children aren’t aware that that they can get chemical burns, or even what the product is, so it’s not the child’s fault if anything happens.

A mom was on her phone texting, and calling somebody. Her toddler (probably around 2 years old). Was on the other side of the store, barefoot, and moving small products around. I noticed the mom not look over to watch her once. Then I heard the toddler go down an isle that has alcohol, and other cleaning chemicals. I quickly went over to make sure the child doesn’t grab anything, and the toddler was in the middle of grabbing a gallon of Barbacide. I quickly took the gallon before she could pull it off the shelf, and had to call out for the mom. All I said was “Can you please watch your toddler? She started grabbing a toxic chemical.” I explained how it could harm her toddler. The mom continued to stay on her phone, got pissed, grabbed her toddler and left.

The most recent was a few weeks ago. A mom was looking at hair dye, on her phone, and not paying attention to her 2 year old. I saw the toddler picking up dyes and moving them around. I went over to the toddler and politely said “hey sweetie, we can’t play with those, let’s put them back”. The mom looked pissed and said “she’s 2.” … (that’s literally the whole reason I’m not letting her play with the dye). I explained the risks of if she spills the dye and how moving them can cause customers to grab the wrong color or cause confusion. The mom ignored me. Still didn’t watch her toddler.

As a retail worker, it’s frustrating. Definitely when it’s in the store that sells chemicals. It’s not my job to make sure your child doesn’t get harmed. Don’t get pissed when I’m trying to prevent your child accidentally ending up in a hospital.

Anyways, why do some parents get offended by this? And when it happens again, how would you suggest I approach the situation?

So, the other day I was in 5below. Two moms with their kids in buggies were standing in front of the snacks. The buggies weren’t even five below buggies. They were ones from a few stores down. Probably one item in them and their kids. I was standing there wanting to grab an energy drink, but the mom and buggy were in front of the shelf. I waited to see if she would move. (She kept on looking at me, then going back to talk to her friend). I eventually said “excuse me.” She pulled the cart out of the way about an inch. I still couldn’t get to shelf. I waited for a more seconds, she kept looking over at me. Eventually I knew she wasn’t going to move. So I had to go around to the other side to get my drink. And I still had to reach for it. The lady FINALLY pulled her buggy back by an inch so I could reach it.

I’ve also seen this with the huge strollers. They will block an entire isle, notice you needing something, and won’t move. Definitely bothers me when their kid isn’t even in the stroller.

I’m not a combative person, but I wish I could have said something to her the other day. They were also doing this is other parts of the store. Too busy yapping to notice other people trying to shop.

A lady came in looking at the perfumes, she said she bought some online but they cost more online than in store, she didn’t like the scents and the convo went like this:

Customer: I bought this online, a different store said I couldn’t return it in-store.

Me: Did you buy it on our website?

Customer: No. On the brand’s website.

Me: Then no.

I literally paused for a few seconds because- what?

I have endometriosis. I got diagnosed when I was 14, got confirmed in a laproscopy when I was 18. I’m 27 now and endometriosis grows back. And gets worse as you age.

It’s known as one of the top most painful conditions. Even some flareups having the same pain as labor contractions. Whenever this is mentioned on too tok or other social media platforms, mothers get pissed in the comments saying the pain is not like that at all. Some who claim to have it as well.
I even had a “friend” respond with “try being pregnant 🤪” as a response to me being in the ER for a flare up. Like a 9 month pregnancy was worse than life long pain.

Endo is a spectrum. Some people can feel barely anything and live fine, while some people literally can’t work because of the pain. Just because it’s easy for you, doesn’t mean it’s the same for everyone.

Its affects my life almost daily. Some days I have to leave work early if I have a flare up, cancel plans, or miss family events. Definitely during my period.

The pain feels like being stabbed with a hot knife. And so do the leg cramps from it. Even after just doing simple things like using the bathroom, lifting heavy items or walking a lot.

It’s gotten so bad to where I have a tolerance to pain meds. I have to take about 5 pills to even help. Even when I was in the ER for a flare up, the morphine didn’t do much. Same with the Tramadol.

It’s a chronic pain/illness condition. And an all body disease. It’s been compared to cancer on how the endo spreads. Even has been found on the lungs.

I just wish more women were supportive of it. I see more men finding the pain valid, and being supportive. (Definitely my husband). Women need to stick together and uplift each other. Not belittle.

Has anybody else with endo experienced this?

I get it that in their generation it’s normal, but some people just don’t like being touched. I really don’t, it makes me uncomfortable and just gets in my personal space. I have old ladies that feel my hair if to see if a product “works” for moisture that I recommend. Or touch it to look at my hair color.

If I have in a gel or leave in that I’m suggesting, is when I’ll let them feel my hair to see. And that’s only when I offer them to.

I really want to tell old people to stop touching it or to ask. But most might find it rude or complain when somebody does so. They also don’t know if somebody could have lice, be sick, or just not like being touched. I sooooo bad want to tell them to ask.

Before anybody clowns on me, I smoke daily. I only use it at night or whenever I’m feeling pain (I have chronic pain from endometriosis). Or use it to help me sleep.

At my job, I help people with hair dye, directions and advice. My worst customers to deal with explaining to are the stoners. The smell of weed will linger in the store, it’s embarrassing since customers might think I’m the one smelling like that. I always have to spray the store with perfume or air freshener tons of times.

Anyways, whenever I explain they always look confused on what I’m saying, or just pause and try to understand what I’m saying. I have to explain the process multiple times. They end up dropping items, get distracted, or just keep on asking simple things or confusing things that don’t make sense. And whenever they try to seem “sober” it reminds me of the “how I look when I’m trying to act like I’m not high” memes. It’s accurate. And even other customers notice. And give me that “I feel bad for you” look.

And they ALWAYS come back saying we “ruined” their hair. We always tell them the read directions and do a test strand, or go on YouTube if they need extra help or a visual step by step.

If any of you can smoke and function at work and public, you get my respects. Definitely the Taco Bell workers. The stoners now my food But don’t come into places if you’re one of those that gets stupid high then please, don’t come into a retail setting where you plan on asking important things. Definitely if you reek of weed.

We’ve been getting this scam a lot where a customer will leave the store, call 10 minutes later and claim we never put the item in the bag, when we clearly did. They will also get mad over the phone and insist we did.

To get them to stop or catch them in the scam:
Kindly tell them that we looked all over and didn’t see it. Ask them what the item was, sometimes it’ll be a different item than what they paid. Go through the journal to double check. Then if they are getting rude and pushy, kindly tell them you can call LP so they check the cameras to see if it’s in the store somewhere or if somebody else took it.

Every we do this the person always pauses, hangs up, or stumbles on their words. Sometimes even call back a minute later saying it was magically “under the car seat”.

Just be aware of this scam. If it’s the same person doing this a lot let other stores know.
We have this happen more during the holidays.

If you have a store radio or can play your own music blast anything that’s not English in the speaker, like turn it tf up. Kpop, Spanish. Or just blast rock or rap.
Whenever I play Bad Bunny old people stop asking me stupid shit and quickly go to register to pay. Same with if we are closing. They love to stay past close. I just put Bad Bunny or BTS on blast and they go up to the register within seconds to leave.

I get this sometimes, definitely when I look at their address and see it’s from a place that’s +1 away or in a different state.

We even got told by a regular that she’s tried the Sally’s closer to her, said they were rude to her, and drives back to ours again. We love this regular. She left with saying “love y’all!”

It makes me feel bad since theirs employees that rather have attitudes or just be rude. If you are miserable, then get a new job. Don’t work in retail.

I also get sad seeing Google reviews of different stores and the most recent 1stars just being about how rude the employees are.

Examples:
Not greeting, not helping, not even talking to them the whole time, or just being dismissive and rude about a customer’s hair or appearance.

I even checked our store’s reviews. Before our recent team most of the reviews were on how rude the employees were. Now, since our new team that we’ve had for a year, we get reviews on how nice we are.

Everybody has bad days, but kindness goes a long way, you never know what somebody has going on in their life, and just a simple smile and talking to them or a compliment goes a long way, and can make their day so much better.

I’m just tired of hearing customers talking about how poorly they were treated at local stores and how they rather drive further just to be treated nicely.

Reasons why:

1. They will come in when it’s single coverage and busy, interrupt me to find an item for them. While they have their phone in my face. I just point to where it’s at.

2. Will wait in line at the register just to get to front to ask me to find the item. They could have found it and been in line during that amount of time.

3. Get rude af when we are out of an item.

4. If registers are down they have full on crash outs. Even got told “Ugh, this was a big tip order” “Can you just fix it?” While I’m on the phone with IT. Like damn, sucks for you, but I can’t magically fix it.

5. Will be right in front of an item and claim they can’t find it. When it’s EYE LEVEL.

6. Will pay and then finally pull out the QR code and get mad at me for their mistake.

7. Want me to physically grab the item when it’s right in front of them.

At this point. I’m just petty back. They are delivery drivers, not legit customers. The store I work at is small af. So I just point to where the item is at. I’m only nice and help out the nice ones, or when the store is dead.

Whenever I see a dasher come in I quickly know I’m going to have the most insufferable 5 minutes of my life.

Dashers need to read the room and stop doing this when workers are helping customers or single coverage. Like- just look with your eyes bro!

1. if you have extra clear bins, make an employee’s fav section at the register. I usually put the color sealer and sauce masks, one of our girls does the viral nail glue, and some others just put bet seller stuff.

2. $1 or less nail files as cash wrap. Older ladies always quickly buy a few.

3. Textured hair clearance items on empty spots on cash wrap. We did it with the clearance Mielle hair care set that went on clearance last year. We put it up front around Christmas and sold all of them.

4. And just essential stuff behind the register, like hair masks, heat protective sprays, hair color additives, hair masks, simple things like that.

5. With some purchases like semi permanent hair color, hot tools, or the repair or moisture shampoos/conditioners we recommend the color sealers, repair masks, and heat protection stuff.

Also remember that low UPT most of the time isn’t our fault. With prices going up and AI taking jobs and the gas prices, people are struggling. So ofc they are only buying what they need. And people can usually tell if you’re trying to upsale, keep these reasons in mind, you can’t control how much money people have. :)

I’m tired of seeing parents with physical disabilities having kids, for those kids to end up with same disabilities or even worse ones.

An example is that one family with dwarfism on TikTok and insta. The ones with the two disabled little girls. I feel so bad for them. The parents knew their kids would be disabled and still decided to have kids. I definitely feel bad for the youngest one, who has to use a walker to walk. No child deserves to live a life like that. And the fact the parents post their kid’s life online is awful. It’s just money farming.

I also saw a few TikTok posts of parents refusing an abortion because their child would be born with a disability. Then their kid ends up being unable to speak, express emotion, move or walk. Basically just a prisoner in their own body. And for what reason? Simply because the parents wanted a kid. They claim they refused the abortion because they “loved” their kid. But if they truly did, they would have aborted them, instead of having the kid suffer their entire life.

Seeing parents who choose these decision really rubs me the wrong way. It’s for pure selfish reasons, and also partly for disability money, taxes benefits and for the influencer ones, social media money and donation money. Just posting their kid for content.

It’s not fair at all to the kid. And it always breaks my heart seeing a kid born out of selfishness like this.

I have chronic pain, heart issues run in my family, and bipolar disorder. I choose not to have a kid since these are genetic. I don’t want my kid to live through life struggling like I’m doing. Or having to take meds every day to feel normal. No kid should go through that.

Anyway, that’s my controversial hot take.
