So are we not supposed to use Tide powder C+G?

I have been using powdered Tide Clean and Gentle for a few weeks bc I thought it had lipase. Apparently the powders so not have lipase? I have an enzyme powder that I will be switching to Febu once it runs out. Should I go back to liquid detergent? It's very confusing even looking through everyone's posts and comments.

Manor Deli is closing Aug 21st.

Hi everyone! Found this on instagram on @woodhavenbid. Manor has been a staple in my family for generations. I went to Atlas a few months ago and just thought they were renovating their restaurant there but I guess they are closing everything. August 21st is their last day so let's all go and get some sandwiches and wish them the best. Now let's hope the chocolate shop across the street stays open...

Line dancing for beginners?

Hi everyone! I used to dance when Inwas younger and I have always wanted to try line dancing. Is there anywhere in the city that has a dance where beginners are welcome? Not necessarily classes but those could be fun too. My birthday is in the fall and I was wondering if anyone had a favorite place to go dancing. TIA!

Where are you guys buying the diecast cars?

Hi everyone. I am new to the Cars world and I am wondering since it is an anniversary year, where are you all buying your toys? My son is a huge fan now and I'm not sure where to buy the cars. Our Target doesn't really have much and I only found stuff off of eBay. Any help is appreciated thank you!

How to landscape my mother's front bed. Zone 7 NYC

Hi everyone! I am very new to gardening and landscaping and I want to treat my elderly mother to a new front bed. I believe the bed is 10ft X 12ft. She lives in Queens and I believe her zone is 7 but not sure if it's A or B. My great grandma planted a holly bush that is now a huge tree and I believe the ground cover is vinca. She has a huge hole almost dead center of the bed as well. I was thinking of maybe just using planters for right now? There is a ton of clay in the soil that we could never get rid of. I was thinking some tall ornamental grasses, a flowering bush (she has 2 huge hydrangeas in the backyard so maybe something else) and then maybe a few hostas? Any tips and recommendations are appreciated. I have no idea where to start!

Can we create a petition for actual cleaning services for our playgrounds and splash pads? Including no off leash dogs in playgrounds and splash pads?

Hi everyone! I'm a native NYer and I have a 3 year old. We love to utilize our local playgrounds (south Queens) but I have noticed an on going issue over the last few years. I feel like a total Karen because I make a 311 report probably every time we go to a playground. Sometimes I have even stayed for an hour or so to see what happens, no one comes to solve the issue, and then the ticket is closed saying the city resolved it. It happens constantly. The conditions of the splash pads are incredibly sad. Beside the slippery left over water balloons which is honestly whatever bc that is just kid mess but the adult messes are too much. Used condoms, 6 packs of broken bottles scattered, drug paraphernalia, dog poop in splash pads. It's just too much. Yeah our playgrounds were never perfect and trust, I'm not looking for perfect. I am looking for some accountability though. I have tried writing to City Council but again nothing happens. I understand we have no money in the budget. I guess I am just wondering how to make a difference. I usually bring a broom brush to clear areas while we are there but it shouldn't be up to the parents to make sure there is no huge chunks of glass at the spray nozzle. What is up with all of this poop?? Like really wth is happening. It's just so sad and I'm becoming frustrated. Is anyone else experiencing this? Maybe we could try to compile people's experiences for a larger effect on City Council? Any input is much appreciated.

How to encourage being social and brave at the library and playground.

Hi everyone. My son is about to turn 3 and has some anxiety around other kids. I really don't want to become a helicopter parent especially at the playground. My son has had a handful of interactions where kids chase him either running, on bikes or with bubbles and he has gotten hurt multiple times trying to run away. He has told other kids "no", "don't scare me", and "stop" and just gets so worked up. Every kid just blankly stared at him and continued to chase him without saying anything. So I've told him that he is being brave by being spooked but not leaving right away even when he wanted to. We also just went to the library for the first time today (please don't get on me about it I was told I couldn't bring our stroller and it was too far to walk when he was younger and spoiler alert I COULD'VE BROUGHT THE STROLLER THIS WHOLE TIME AND I FEEL SO STUPID ABOUT IT) and we are going to start going not just for story time but to explore. So what should I do if he starts screaming or crying because other kids are at the library. I don't want to just leave because then he'll maybe assume that's what you do when you want to leave. Basically I'm not really sure what verbage to use and how to calm him down without intervening so much. We also are going to apply for 4k next year so 3k isn't an option right now. TIA, any help is much appreciated.

Edit: Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I try really hard to frame everything in a way that he'll understand so we'll discuss what he can say, how he can come to me, and that sometimes other kids don't have their ear goggles on etc. We also discuss everything that happened with a check in. I remove him and calm him down when he gets super upset and we usually have a quick snack and talk about being brave. I know he is going to fall and he is better at catching himself now. I'll just keep trying to be there but not like on top of him and hopefully he'll loosen up.

Library Adult Craft Event Thurs June 18th 6pm

Hi everyone! I haven't gotten the chance to attend an adult craft event at the library yet but there is one next week! It's to make a scrunchie and they are supplying everything! I think this week was making fairy garden sticks. If anyone goes can you report back? I've always been so interested but that's dinner and bedtime for my kiddo.

Is a food processor sufficient enough for smoothies?

Hi everyone! I have a 3 year old son and the summer is upon us and I'd like to drink more smoothies this year. We have a small apartment and I was gifted a food processor for xmas and I was wondering if that would be enough to make smoothies. TIA

Poor Mon Mon

I feel soooo bad for Monica. Like Inknow everyone is cheating and doing crazy shit but I just feel so bad for her. I was hoping Maud was actually going to give Tony shit for that TV stunt and was highly disappointed she backed down. I haven't read the books yet but I really hope Monica is able to put Tony through the ringer. Did her and Dame Edith have a fling back in the day? I think Dame Edith has an interest in Monica. I wish she would step out more, she has spoken a few times how they were all friends before all of this franchise business. It broke my heart Maud overhearing the women making fun of Monica while filming the show.

Having trouble deciding on 3k or 4k

Hi everyone! My son will turn 3 at the end of June. We are just starting potty training and he still naps about 2 hours. He has always been extremely sensitive to light and I have been practicing having him nap with curtains not fully drawn. I was always going to have him start 4k but then I felt pressured by a few people to put him in 3k. I am primary caregiver and am not working right now (we can not afford daycare even with me working bc I have no real skills and have only worked service). So I put my son on a few waitlists and he was accepted into a 3k/4K center run by the DOE. The days are 8am-2:30pm Monday through Friday. He would get breakfast, lunch, and snack and doesn't have to be fully potty trained. We don't have a big support system so he hasn't really been away from me. I am really concerned that this would be too much at once. There is no option for half days or not a full week. Everyone I talk to has a different expectation and it is making me feel like I can't decide. I kno transitions to anything new are going to be rough but to me he is still so young I don't want to be away from him for thatblong if I actually don't have to? Does anyone have any advice? I'd love to just start him at 4k but people are telling me that I need to put him in school ASAP. Idk, any help is much appreciated. TIA.

Something is wrong with my brain and I don't have words to adequately explain it. It is ruining my life and idk how to get help.

Hi everyone. I am a 37yo female, married, and have a 3 year old son. I have always struggled in life. I have poor executive functioning and have been having intense mood swings. I have a lot of rage when I am about to menstruate. I have terrible anxiety and I have no coping skills. My sister has been a therapist for 20 years and it has really pushed me against psych. I have tried anti depressants and they have never worked. I also have a bad eye and can't drive and I feel very stuck physically and emotionally. I am cycling over and over again. I am trying so hard to stay calm and apologize immediately for my outbursts with my son. I have terrible migraines that I am seeing a new neurologist for in July to see if I can get better meds. They are debilitating and I have rhem at least 3-4 days out of a week. I have no friends and barely any family support. I have OCD intrusive thoughts, I have panic attacks, I have trouble leaving the house or making important phone calls. I can not finish anything project related, or leisurely related like reading a book. I am on fire 100% of the time, I am always at 11. I have tried 3 times talking to my primary about it but at first I thought it was depression, and then I thought it was autism. I was referred to a psych clinic and I was on a wait list for 8 months and then the referral expired. I'm not sure how to really articulate what is going on in my head and I don't know how to properly ask for help.

So, what happened after your parent counted to 3?

I have a toddler who is about to turn 3. My mother is 72 and we were all having breakfast the other morning. My son was acting up about no returning something of my mother's and she used her mean mommy voice and said "I'm going to count to 3!" My son just looked at her like "cool story bro" and eventually I was able to get him to return the item. In the back of my head of course he doesn't know what that means bc I don't use it yet. I honestly don't even remember what my mom would do after counting to 3! Like what did your parents do? Throw away your toys (my BIL did that with an ipad!)? Just curious what people experienced growing up and if you implement it in your parenting styles.

Mother's Day card I made for my mom. Cut by hand and embossed by hand.

Hi everyone! I have only made a few cards before so everything I had to do by hand. It took me all day haha. I have a Martha Stewart dry emboss kit from like 15 years ago. My son scribbled and I cut the hearts from that. My mom loved it.
