Zoombies (2016)

This is a baffling movie to say the least. While I honestly think its idea was good on paper, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Full to the brim with hilariously bad acting, stock footage & atrocious CGI creatures - this movie is certainly a sight to behold. But it is so ridiculous that you can’t help but laugh at this disaster piece of nonsense. Making it more of a comedy than anything else. So if you’re looking for something dumb but fun to watch with some friends on a Friday night, give Zoombies a try.

Independence Day (1996)

Happy 4th of July! Why not celebrate with this awesome Sci-Fi classic staring an A-List cast including Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith & Bill Pullman (among others). This film is action packed, fun, jam packed full of great one-liners & wrapped brilliantly in fantastic VFX. If you’re a fan of action, Sci-Fi, Disaster Films OR all of the above, then celebrate your 4th of July with this awesome 90s classic.

Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

Happy Independence Day! To celebrate, let’s talk about one of the most baffling sequels ever made. This film makes so many decisions that will have you scratching your head. Compared to the original where our disadvantage created a sense of urgency & suspense, the sequel turns into more of a Star Wars rip off than anything else. The film also chooses to turn the aliens into something mimicking the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. But with all that being said, this movie is a ton of fun mainly due to how absurd it is. If you’re a fan of the OG, then don’t take this one seriously BUT just sit back and enjoy this disaster comedy. What did you think?

GATTACA (1997)

GATTACA is a 1997 Sci-Fi film starring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman & Jude Law (among others) following a protagonist who is forced to fake his identity in order to achieve his dream of space travel. In this world, it has become the norm to genetically engineer children instead of producing them naturally. Our main protagonist Vincent Freeman (Hawke) is forced to fake his identity as a genetically engineered human despite being naturally born. All in all this movie is really strong. It builds on the suspense & tension and emphasizes a handful of deeper messages that are hard to forget. Would highly recommend.

SPAWN (1997)

This movie is pretty infamous by now but it remains a gem in the “so bad it’s good” category. Riddled with the immense challenge of converting the very dark & graphic source material into a kid friendly PG-13 action flick. As you can probably imagine, it didn’t exactly turn out great. But there’s still something about it that makes it fun to watch. Maybe it’s the absolutely abysmal VFX. Maybe it’s John Leguizamo’s over the top but brilliant performance as the sadistic demon Violator. OR maybe it’s the banger 90s metal soundtrack. All in all, this movie is very flawed but incredibly fun at the same time. Do you remember this movie? What did you think?

The RAMBO Franchise

If you’re a fan of 80s action flicks & haven’t seen these films then this franchise should be next of your list. Fair warning however, they do get extremely graphic towards the end of the series.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

As a big fan of the video game, I had high hopes going into this 2021 reboot & oh boy did it deliver. With incredible performances from each of its cast members & tones of subtle but effective Easter eggs to satisfy long time MK fans, this movie knows exactly what it’s doing. And of course, you can’t talk about a faithful Mortal Kombat movie without mentioning the intense energy & graphic fight scenes, well preserved within its R-Rating. It also boasts some great action sequences & impressive VFX that truly help immerse you in the world of MK. All in all, I would highly recommend to all MK fans.

BORDERLANDS (2024)

If you’re a fan of the games, this movie will certainly have you scratching your head. From start to finish this movie is jam packed with awful dialogue, horrible miscasting, plot holes & baffling creative decisions that sometimes make this movie feel more like an unintentional comedy than anything else. But it can be a lot of fun if you’re looking for a movie to turn your brain off and poke fun at with friends. I do think it’s worth noting however that the set design, costumes, props & VFX are pretty top notch in this film. Gotta give the filmmakers credit where credit is due. All in all, if you’re looking for a bad but entertaining video game adaptation, this one should definitely be towards the top of your list.

What You Think?

Help me give it a name. To add context to the image, this was a screen pause I accidentally made of the American Dad intro.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (1993)

I’m pretty sure this one is pretty infamous by this point BUT I couldn’t resist talking about it. The biggest flaw with its movie (at least in my opinion) is the direction. This movie should have been an animated film but for whatever reason they made it live action instead which resulted in many glaring BUT charming issues. BUT don’t get me wrong, this movie is still a ton of fun (albeit for unintentionally reasons) and is bound to have you laughing at some point during its runtime. The actors also do there best with what they’re given which for what it’s worth, wasn’t very much so you gotta give them props for at least trying which really only adds to the films appeal. Does anyone remember this campy classic?

SPACE BALLS (1987)

An iconic pinnacle of the spoof genre, Space Balls is an outrageously hilarious Star Wars Spoof by legendary comedy actor & director Mel Brooks. While some of its humor might turn some people away & it occasionally might be criticized for looking cheap, to me that’s part of its appeal. If you’re fan of comedy OR you’re just in need of a good laugh, this movie is a pretty solid place to start. Also if you’re a fan of the original (like me), are you excited for the upcoming sequel? Let me know.

Space Jam (1996)

This movie is no masterpiece by any means, but it’s a cheesy fun time nonetheless. I watched it as a kid and loved it. There’s just something oddly appealing seeing Michael Jordan interacting with the iconic Looney Toons gang. It’s fun, over the top, funny & ridiculous but it all works out because at the end of the day it’s a stupid fun movie that the whole family can watch. Does anyone remember this one? If so, did you ever watch it & what did you think?
