Phantom Ranch Library

I feel like in my Phantom Ranch research I saw that there is a small leave one take one type library at Phantom Ranch. Can anyone confirm this? I want to leave a copy of my favorite book. Just trying to avoid having to carry it out too (its paperback but still)

Learning to take a hit

https://i.redd.it/6tmvhzy6wrfh1.gif

Hey everyone. I play in the lowest level offered at my rink (C3). Most guys are either learning or learned as adults so have a low skill ceiling. I started learning to skate at 30 (I'm 39 now) so I understand there only so good I can get. Recently there are been more and more players in C3 that are not learning or learned as adults. They obviously played as kids and are much better than I'll ever be. This alone isn't a problem, playing against better players will make me better, but they also learned how to check. It's a non-checking league but sometimes contact happens. The guys who know how to check can just plow right through you, where if 2 C3 players collide usually they both go down. So as an adult, who doesn't need to learn how to check to check but wants to learn to check to be able to take a hit, how can I learn to not go down as easily or at least take the other guy out also when he hits me? Gif attached as an example (Lasts nights game, I'm in white, down 3-2, 1 minute left, guy didn't even try to go around me, good enough skater that he could have if he wanted)

New case?

I recently built my first PC in about 20 years. Super fun and very satisfying but as with most things I failed to pay attention to detail and some things are not as "nice" as I wish they were. I didn't check the dimensions of a lot of my parts in comparison to the case I got. The case is a fractal design meshy 2 which is a lovely case but smaller than I was expecting. My video card fits but only barely, can only have 1 frant facing fan. Then of course I did it again over the weekend where I bought an AIO liquid cooler (mostly cause it was a good deal and looks cool, there is nothing actually wrong with my Thermalright Peerless Assassin) and it doesn't fit. Should I just get a new case and move everything over to save myself the trouble in the future or get used to actually checking the dimensions of things (and deal with the GPU taking up 95% of the case space)? TBH I'm slightly more concerned with making sure I'm not going to damage anything with the lack of fans or having a GPU filling up the case. I don't know shit about airflow thermodynamics in a PC other than it's important.

Playing as a Rook

I'm a bit confused about what I'm supposed to be doing as a Rook. I read or watched something that basically said Rooks are for getting gear when your vault is empty and most players will leave Rooks alone or even help them. I've had a handful of instances where Trios will let me live and 80% of the time other Rooks will leave me alone but most times if I see another player as a Rook they're wasting me, even if I'm on comms saying I'm a Rook. Did I get bad Intel and I should be more aggressive as a Rook or am I just getting unlucky. I'm horrible at the PvP of this game so I'm constantly running out of gear.

Before I buy

Update: Bought it. Thanks for all your input! See you out there, runners.

I'm playing the free week and I'm not sure if I'm buying yet or not. There are aspects of the game I'm enjoying and others I'm not but I'm wondering if the aspects I'm not enjoying are more of a skill issue or a free week issue rather than a real game/gameplay issue. FWIW I play a fair amount of single player games and I'll mostly be playing this game solo. I play Duos in Arc Raiders but my buddy doesn't seem interested in Marathon.

- Long load times. It consistently takes over 2:30 to get into a game. In Arc I'm always under a minute. This could just be an increased load from the free week. Is it always this long to get into a game?

- I know TTK in Marathon is a lot shorter than Arc and I've just been running free kits but if I see someone I'm dead. I have no chance. Just a skill/gear issue? Are lobbies unbalanced?

- Extract camping. This isn't unique to Marathon, it happens in Arc too but once you're in more PvE lobbies it happens less. Big difference is you have a lot less choices to get out in Marathon. It's pretty frustrating to spend all that time looting just to be smoked at extract by a sniper. It's fine if it's a rare thing, like not how most people play, but I'm curious how often you deal with it.

- Worth it solo? Game always defaults to Trios even after I change to solo. It feels like squad tactics are a big part of the game. So is it worth playing as a solo?

I am having fun despite the above and only getting to extract 1/12 runs on average. I might buy just to have an alternative to Arc and single player games but I only have a bit of time before work and after my wife and daughter go to bed so it kind of depends on how you all respond to this post. Might not be the right game for me. Cheers, boys.
