Hi everyone,
I am looking to upgrade my PC. Its been about ~4ish years since I did my first upgrade on my first pc, which was getting a 3070.
The PC has been great and now I'm just looking to add a bit more to it since its been a few years. I believe the GPU is still "quite good," so I'm really looking at the CPU and storage at the moment. Ill post the information on my build down below.
For the Storage I am looking to make my boot drive larger as 120 gig just fills up to much now. I clean it up every few month but I would rather not have that problem. so I am wondering if I can just get a 256 gig or if I should get a higher storage like a 1TB or 2TB.
My actual storage drive is a hard drive, and I feel when it comes to games, that it actually makes loading games a bit to slow for what I want. I have skips in audio as it loads up a new level for example (I'm playing pragmata at the moment and I get this during cutscenes). So I'm thinking moving to an SSD may help with that minor problem I have.
The biggest place I'm looking at upgrading is my CPU. I feel like the CPU was good for what i needed when I first built this pc. But what I want is a higher performing PC and I believe the CPU is my current "bottleneck". To go back to my most recent experience with the game pragmata. The Second level is really detailed and being in certain areas seems to make my fps drop sub 30. I dont believe its the GPU being a problem because I shouldn't really be having those issues with a 3070. Which leads me to believe its the CPU or the fact my main storage disk is a Hard drive.
The problem is my motherboard is a LGA 1151 socket. and I believe I was reading that this particular socket isn't really getting any of the new CPUs. So My dilemma is, do I upgrade my CPU but then have to do that again later when I get a new motherboard. Or should I just upgrade and do both and "bite the bullet".
My budget is about 300. but I know everything is priced up because of the state of the world. So I dont know If upgrading storage is "better" than upgrading the CPU at the moment or which one I should prioritize of the two drive that I have. If I have to wait a while and save up more to do a bigger upgrade then I am okay with doing that.
Or Should I prioritize the CPU, In which case Should I just upgrade the CPU or Go all the way and look into a new motherboard as well (which would let me get DDR5 one day in the future)
Any advice from simple "do that upgrade first" to more in depth "recommendations for what to upgrade with" is welcomed.
Thanks
