I've been using makemkv to get a digital version of my collection over the past few months. It's great, but bluerays are large in their file size

I've been using make mkv to rip my collection of movies I've slowly built up over the years. Being able to set up jellyfin and have an easy way to watch my stuff during lunch at work is great.

I've been watching and rewatching movies at a larger rate than before and now I've begun buying more movies from stores, or garage sales since I feel like I will actually watch them. It's become a fun little hobby.

However, my only complaint is that blue rays files are so large. I want the higher quality over DVDs, but I'm starting to think just off of size I may rather have DVDs.

Like I can get 5-8 DVDs in the place of 1 blue ray disk. Does anyone have options to get the file sizes down. I've tried selecting only the audio I want instead of subtitles or alternate languages but that really only affects the file size minimally.

I figured I would need an additional hard drive to store them in, I just wasn't expecting to need it so soon. Is my only option to just increase available storage.

Coming back to Armor Core 6 after beating it when it came out. It feels like my non-melee weapons just dont hit like they used to

I am finally picking AC6 back up after beating it when it first came out. during my three playthrough i created this build i call the raging rhino. I got my way through every mission but the last one. I have been trying for the past few weeks but I can only get into the final stage of the boss with no repair kits.

im really struggling with the first party since that mech unstaggers so quickly, and now my zimmerman and songbirds feel like they barely hit or when they do nothing happens. or at least not as much as it used to.

im assuming I just need to get lucky with this build, but im wondering if there are some weapons on the left side that can help me now with the current rebalances of weapons

Would this configuration work?

Hi, I am trying to make it easier for my parents to get onto my Jellyfin server.

Right Now I have my pc with jellyfin on it and tailscale to connect. However my parents are not the best with computers. they constantly turn off the Tailscale on the phone and cant connect to the Jellyfin app on their phone. they also complain about not being able to use the chromecast either since Tailscale is its own network.

I started using a reverse proxy but I believe I am under a CGnat, on top of my routers not allowing ports 8- and 443 to open. So to get around this I am thinking of this kind of set up

It would essentially be the same steps I did for my reverse proxy but now just off on another computer somewhere.

https://preview.redd.it/5qp19dh8hhfh1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=44168bd16dd5a449c61d5130efd137fc4acdd5ad

So the URL is from DuckDNS (if there are better options let me know, its just the one from the tutorial I followed to understand and set up the proxy in the first place.) DuckDNS has me targeting an IP to direct to so I will use the public address of the VPS.

both VPS and my PC will be connected in a Tailscale network.

in the VPS I will probably have docker and then NGINX Proxy manager listening to ports 80 and 443. (again if there is a better proxy manager or one that doesn't need to be in docker, let me know) The Proxy Manager will have a proxy host for the DuckDNS URL. the proxy host will target my pcs Tailscale IP and port 8096, the one for Jellyfin.

Is there any reason this may not work or something I am not thinking of. I am very new to networking and I have been learning a lot very quickly but there is a lot of stuff I still have yet to understand.

Is Spectrums internt public ip cg-nat?

I am trying to set up a proxy server. But it is not working. One of the reasons it may fail is because the internet may be behind a carrier grade nat(cg-nat).

The easiest way is to look at the public ip and wan. However spectrums routers have to be controlled through a phone app and it does not show you the wan ip. Only the public ipv4.

Can someone tell me if spectrum is under a cg-nat or not.

PC will only boot while new NVME drive is installed if I use 2 sticks of RAM. Not 1 or 4 sticks, only 2. Also my PC only recognizes 1 of those RAM sticks.

Hi, Everyone.

I recently bought a new NVME drive to finally upgrade my storage from hard drive to something quicker. I was tired of my games lagging in dense areas or cutscenes audio cuttingout/being three seconds behind. So instead of just upgradding to ssd, I wanted a major upgrade, hence the NVME.

Here is the NVME drive that I got from Newegg.
WD_BLACK SN7100 M.2 2280 2TB PCI-Express 4.0 x4 TLC 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS200T4X0E

and here is the info on my pc itself before we go further.

Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz

Installed RAM -32.0 GB - Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 ram 8GB x 4

Storage- 112 GB SSD WDC WDS120G2G0A-00JH30, 1.82 TB HDD ST2000DM008-2FR102

Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8 GB)

mother Board - Arous z390 Pro Wifi

I feel the need to state that my PC up until this point, has worked great no problems booting. well aside form slow games but thats to be expected from a hard drive, and my boot drive SSD slowly filling up, but thats also to be expected from window.

So it was to my surprise when this NVME drive did not work out of the box especially after double checking my motherboard manual to make sure it was actually able to use NVME. It is able to and in fact my motherboard has two slots for NVME/M.2 drives, m2a which goes next to the CPU, and is the slot I want to use for the NVME and m2m, which is not directly connected to the CPU, I believe.

I noticed that the debug lights on my motherboard also got stuck on DRAM. So I went and got some help and was suggested to try reseating my RAM as sometimes they come unseated when installing the M.2 drive, and another to check if my pc can boot with 1 stick of RAM.

So I proceeded to set up a small testing environment by removing my main storage hard drive, graphics card, capture card and all other plug and play devices.

What I was left with was my CPU, RAM, a SSD installed in SATA0 which would still work no matter what M.2 slot I used (according to my manual) and then a keyboard, mouse, HDMI for integrated graphics, and ethernet.

I was able to post into bios, Launch windows, and recognize all ram installed into my computer in these various configurations: All 4 RAM Sticks, 2 Ram Sticks in a1&b1 as well as a2&b2(tested with all combos of RAM sticks, like RAM 1 in a1 and RAM 2 in b1, then swapping them so a1 had RAM 2 and b1 had RAM 1.) and finally all 4 lanes individually a1, a2, b1, & b2. (Each lane was tested with all 4 sticks or RAM)

So with me being confident about my RAM working and my RAM Lanes being Good, I installed the NVME drive into my test environment.

What I found was that my PC was no longer able to post in these RAM Configurations: All 4 RAM Sticks, a1&b1, all lanes individually. For most cases this meant that the PC would turn on its case lights and fans, but not the motherboard LEDs. and the debug lights would go from CPU to DRAM and never move past DRAM into VGA or BOOT.

However these where two unique cases where this was not the noted behavior. All 4 RAM sticks and b2 as a single RAM stick, had my PC doing what I call a power cycle, while also not posting into bios.

A power cycle is where the case lights and fans turn on, the debug light on the motherboard turn on. however instead of just moving from CPU to DRAM and staying at DRAM, it would periodically bounce between CPU and DRAM, while mostly staying at DRAM. The motherboard LEDS would then turn on and the CPU fan would spin up but then everything would turn off and it would restart the process of turning everything back on, just to turn off again.

With the NVME Drive Installed, I was able to get the PC to Post and then boot into windows in a single configuration, a2 & b2. However in this configuration my bios only properly recognized a2 for its RAM, "Corsair 8gb 2133MHz" while b2 was "0gb 2000MHz". I did more testing and found that no matter what combination of RAM sticks used, b2 would always display wrong in bios. so even if say RAM stick 1 was in a1 on one boot and was recognized. If I swapped it and put it into b2 it would no long be recognized properly. Task manager and a CMD command to get the installed ram also showed that the PC only showed 1 stick of RAM not two despite there being two installed. Also good to note that the NVME was finally recognized in Bios and windows (but it is unformatted)

This behavior was noted in both m2a (the slot I want to use) and m2m as well. I didn't test nearly as deeply as m2m as m2a, however the two main things i tested, all 4 RAM and 2 RAM in a2 & b2 had the same results as m2a. so I think its fair to just assume both slots behave the same and I can keep focusing on m2a.

while in the a2&b2 configuration I did add back in all of my stuff, GPU, Capture Card, Hard Drive, other plug and play stuff, and it was able to boot and work. Well aside from the ram not being recognized issue.

So what have I done to solve this problem.

I have updated my Bios to the most recent version. That did not help.
I uninstalled my CMOS battery and discharged the electricity and then installed it back like 30 minutes later. That did not help.
I have done all the various checking of ram slots I stated above.
I turned X.M.P (or is it X.P.M I forget) on, it is usually off. It did not work.
I turned CSM off, it is usually on. It did not work.

So if anyone has ideas on what could be causing this problem, any help will be appreciated.

I stopped by Best Buy to get a USB to update my bios and talked with geek squad really quick (I know they are not good for it, but they were right there so I figured I might as well), and the guy there said its probably a motherboard issue but couldn't tell without seeing the pc.

I dont know if this type of issue is a known problem for my motherboard.

I dont know if this is behavior that a know for when an NVME is bad or not.

If I dont get something figured out by like end of tomorrow, I am just going to send the drive back to Newegg and eat the restock fee and save back up to just get a regular SATA SSD even though I dont really want that particular upgrade.

Help adding NVME M.2 drive to Arous Z390 Pro Wifi. My PC no longer posts and is stuck in DRAM

Hi everyone, Info on my pc parts down below.

I have an Arous Z390 Pro Wifi. It is able to have two m.2 drives. I am wanting to upgrade. I got a drive earlier today. Specifically

WD_BLACK SN7100 M.2 2280 2TB PCI-Express 4.0 x4 TLC 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS200T4X0E

The Problem is that this drive makes my computer not boot and is stuck in a power cycle and does not post into bios.

I have tried this drive in both M2A and M2m both do not boot. I have tried it with and with out my gpu, and making sure all other drives are unplugged so only the m2 is there.

with out the m.2 my system works fine, i can remove and change around parts fine with out the drive and manage to boot into bios.

My belief is that because this is a pcie 4.0 drive that perhaps my motherboard cant handle that. which I wasnt thinking about when I got the drive. But I have seen people say that it will work and the speeds get capped. But my gut is saying thats not true.

or the drive is just bad in general, but I dont really have a way to see if the drive works not outside of my computer working.

I have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled this new drive many times, so I do not believe it was a seating problem.

Is there any advice that people can give me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Can someone help explain how a VPN may affect a reverse proxy

Hi, everyone.

I am in the early steps of researching and understanding reverse proxies for my jellyfin media server.

I want it to be able to be remote accessed while im on the go and also be able to be used by my direct family. Currently I have tailscale and that works well for me, but my family on the otherhand, well they are not the most tech savvy.

So my understanding of reverse proxy is that while it is more work to set up, it is easier to access at the end with it just being a url you put into your web browser.

However the machine I have my jellyfin server on also has a vpn, specifically proton vpn.

I am seeing a lot of people talking about nginx for setting up the reverse proxy and that I can target my machines ip to allow traffic to go through.

But if i have a vpn on, can I still target my actual ip and everything will work fine, where if information/requests come in through the url and into the reverse proxy everything will be good. or will my vpn force all info to go in and out of its service.

Thanks for the help and insight. Like I said, I am still researching how to do this, so I may not even end up going this way and stick with tailscale. But its good to know more about stuff like this.

Help With Not Being Able To Connect To Jellyfin Server

Hi all. I am trying to get my friend hooked up to my jellyfin server.

my machine with jellyfin has tailscale installed and both are running.

My friend has tailscale on his phone and has access to my machine which i gave him a share link for. when he tries to connect to the jellyfin server he isnt even able to get to the login page. So the tailscale ip of my machine isnt working for selecting the server address.

My server has remote access allowed. Both my machine and his phone do not have any active vpns to stop the access. The ip he puts in jellyfin is correct as well. So i dont know why its not going through.

we get a simple message "can not connect to server"

when checking my logs on the jellyfin server I do see a message saying there was a connection but it failed due to an invalid token.

any advice on how to get it up an running. I am able to connect to my server just fine through tailscale and so is another friend, so i just dont know why this friends isnt able to connect.

Help With Tailscale And Remote Access To Jellyfin: Invalid Token

I have Tailscale connected to my server to allow for remote connections.

Jellyfin has the setting to allow remote connections on.

on my phone, I have Tailscale and Jellyfin and I am able to connect to Jellyfin through the Tailscale ip address.

My friend also has this set up. I shared my machine with them through Tailscale and they can connect to the server.

I am now trying to bring a new Third person in to the server. I am have hooked up to Tailscale and granted them access to my machine. But when they hen connect into Jellyfin, they are unable to connect into the Jellyfin server through the Tailscale ip.

They have Tailscale on and connected, my Jellyfin server is on, the Jellyfin server machine is in their Tailscale network. They do not have any vpns running and they are using cellular data and not wifi as their wifi was having trouble allowing Tailscale to download. I do not have any vpns running on my Jellyfin machine aside from Tailscale.

Can anyone think of ways to make this work. Like I said two out of three of us are able to connect to the Jellyfin server on our phones just fine. and I am at a loss for why its not working.

And I did varify that he was using the right Tailscale ip from the Tailscale app as well, and he typed in the address correctly with http://<tailscaleip>:8096/ so im just not sure what could be stopping it.

the error we get it "can not connect to server", they dont even get a chance to put in their username and password for Jellyfin.

I did look at the logs and the only thing I can see that are maybe concerning is some "CustomAuthentication" was not authenticated. Failure message: "invalid token."
followed by "Authentication Scheme: "CustomeAuthentication" was challenged.

Which i think is where the problem is now that I am typing this up, I just dont know how to fix that.

and another was "the remote party closed the websocket connection without completing the close handshake. followed by my Tailscale ip, so that was probably me just closing the app through the app drawer.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for advice on what reader I should get to back up my collection

I am new to having my own media server. I just got it set up with Jellyfin and I'm now looking to bring my small collection of dvd and blue rays onto the media server.

I have been looking around and I seem to be seeing. Consensus that if it's just blue ray and dvds then any old drive will be good. But if you get into 4k blue rays then you need specific drives that can be flashed.

At the moment my collection is just dvd and some normal bluerays no 4k or uhd dvds (as far as I know).

Should I just get a reader or should I try to get one that can handle 4k stuff as a "future proof" I do have a somewhat limited budget but its something I can save up for since I really want a worker media server.

Looking for advice on which part I should start with for upgrading my PC.

Hi everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my PC. Its been about ~4ish years since I did my first upgrade on my first pc, which was getting a 3070.

The PC has been great and now I'm just looking to add a bit more to it since its been a few years. I believe the GPU is still "quite good," so I'm really looking at the CPU and storage at the moment. Ill post the information on my build down below.

For the Storage I am looking to make my boot drive larger as 120 gig just fills up to much now. I clean it up every few month but I would rather not have that problem. so I am wondering if I can just get a 256 gig or if I should get a higher storage like a 1TB or 2TB.

My actual storage drive is a hard drive, and I feel when it comes to games, that it actually makes loading games a bit to slow for what I want. I have skips in audio as it loads up a new level for example (I'm playing pragmata at the moment and I get this during cutscenes). So I'm thinking moving to an SSD may help with that minor problem I have.

The biggest place I'm looking at upgrading is my CPU. I feel like the CPU was good for what i needed when I first built this pc. But what I want is a higher performing PC and I believe the CPU is my current "bottleneck". To go back to my most recent experience with the game pragmata. The Second level is really detailed and being in certain areas seems to make my fps drop sub 30. I dont believe its the GPU being a problem because I shouldn't really be having those issues with a 3070. Which leads me to believe its the CPU or the fact my main storage disk is a Hard drive.

The problem is my motherboard is a LGA 1151 socket. and I believe I was reading that this particular socket isn't really getting any of the new CPUs. So My dilemma is, do I upgrade my CPU but then have to do that again later when I get a new motherboard. Or should I just upgrade and do both and "bite the bullet".

My budget is about 300. but I know everything is priced up because of the state of the world. So I dont know If upgrading storage is "better" than upgrading the CPU at the moment or which one I should prioritize of the two drive that I have. If I have to wait a while and save up more to do a bigger upgrade then I am okay with doing that.

Or Should I prioritize the CPU, In which case Should I just upgrade the CPU or Go all the way and look into a new motherboard as well (which would let me get DDR5 one day in the future)

Any advice from simple "do that upgrade first" to more in depth "recommendations for what to upgrade with" is welcomed.

Thanks
