Heroic Game Launcher Enables Xbox Game Pass Titles on SteamOS
The Steam Deck and Steam Machine have introduced new ways to approach gaming by bridging hardware capabilities with software flexibility. In a recent breakdown by Deck Ready, attention is given to how applications like the Heroic Game Launcher and Proton enable users to play Windows-based games on Linux systems such as Steam OS. For instance, the Heroic Game Launcher supports the integration of Xbox Game Pass titles into Steam setups, allowing players to expand their libraries. This process, however, often involves navigating technical configurations and relying on community-driven solutions.
Discover the steps required to configure the Heroic Game Launcher and integrate Game Pass titles into your Steam hardware. Gain insight into the constraints of running Windows games on Linux, including compatibility issues and performance trade-offs. Learn how cross-platform challenges affect optimization and what this means for gaming on devices like the Steam Deck.
The Heroic Game Launcher is a pivotal tool for Steam hardware users, offering the ability to access Xbox app and Game Pass titles on Linux and Steam OS. By using Proton, a compatibility layer that enables Windows games to run on Linux, this tool significantly expands the range of games available on devices like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. This means you can enjoy a broader library of titles without being confined to a single ecosystem.
However, the process of setting up the Heroic Game Launcher is not without its challenges. It often requires a level of technical expertise and reliance on community-driven solutions to address compatibility issues. While this innovation opens up exciting possibilities, it also underscores the need for more intuitive and user-friendly solutions to make these features accessible to a wider audience. For you, this means that while the potential is vast, the path to unlocking it may require patience and technical effort.
Microsoft’s Game Pass has become one of the most popular subscription services in gaming, granting access to a vast library of high-quality titles. Yet, for Steam hardware users, fully integrating Game Pass remains a significant challenge. While unofficial methods exist to enable Game Pass on Linux, the absence of an official Xbox app for the platform creates unnecessary complications.

Epic Games for Linux confirmed – and what it could mean for Steam Deck and Steam Machine ?
Until now, Linux users have had to rely on unofficial solutions such as the Heroic Games Launcher or Lutris to access the Epic Games Store. That is apparently set to change: Epic is working on a native Linux version of its store. This was confirmed during an open Q&A session on the community Discord. When asked whether there were any new plans for a Linux version of the launcher, an Epic employee responded simply with “Soon.” However, he also pointed out that the Linux client will not be included in the upcoming preview version of the redesigned Epic Games Store.
As the Epic employee went on to explain, the company needs to “do more than simply have a build of the launcher that can run natively on Linux.” Exactly what that means remains unclear. One obvious possibility, however, is that Epic is also working on a solution for game compatibility. After all, a native store alone does not ensure that games developed primarily for Windows will also run on Linux.
Another indication of broader Linux plans comes from an Epic Games job listing. The company is looking for a Security Engineer who will help advance the Linux capabilities of its anti-cheat technology. However, the listing does not reveal whether this work is related to the upcoming store client or could even pave the way for Fortnite on Linux. It also remains unclear when the native Linux client will be released. Aside from the rather vague “Soon,” Epic has yet to announce a release date.
Since both the Steam Deck and the Steam Machine run Valve's Linux-based SteamOS operating system, the upcoming client could potentially be relevant to both devices. However, Epic has not yet announced a version specifically optimized for SteamOS or explicit support for either Valve device.
While nothing has been confirmed so far, Reddit users are hoping this could bring native Epic integration to Gaming Mode on the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. Cumbersome workarounds involving Heroic or Lutris, which require switching to Desktop Mode at least for the initial setup, would no longer be necessary. Some users are also hoping for Proton or Wine integration that would allow games developed for Windows to run on SteamOS. One particularly common request is the ability to play Fortnite on Valve hardware. At present, the Battle Royale shooter cannot be run locally on SteamOS and can only be played via cloud gaming or after installing Windows.

hi folks iam using steam deck oled ( linux ) the game is soo blurry on the deck and isnt an enjoyable experience so i decided to do some modding like adding optiscaler ,16:10 screen fix mod along with , ff7 rebirth hook , moded engine.ini , eclipse pak mod for better performance , Rebirth DX12 Async Shader Compile mod.
Manual optiscaler didn't work causing fatal error on launch , but worked later after using decky framegen plugin which automatically set optiscaler and optipatcher correctly and added the required steam launch option .
what is left is all other mods which they are using dsound.dll , winmm.dll , version .dll ..etc
they all causing fatal error on launch as soon as i add them to wine64 folder .
can someone here help me figuring all this out?
there is a new mod the chainload all these dll mods called votrex but iam not sure if it supports linux yet its fairly new

youtu.beSteam Deck LCD battery jumps to $180 on iFixit, marking a 125% increase 😬
The Steam Deck LCD battery came back in stock on iFixit last month, but with a much higher price tag. Now, its price has increased again, with the battery listed for $180
Last month, the Steam Deck LCD battery came back in stock on iFixit after reports suggested that Valve might be discontinuing replacement parts for the original model. While it returned with a higher $129.99 price tag, it seems that the replacement battery now costs even more than before.
Before it went out of stock, the Steam Deck LCD battery was selling for $79.99 on iFixit. When it returned, its price had already increased by $50 to $129.99. Now, the replacement battery has become even more expensive, as iFixit has increased its price to $179.99. This is $50 more than the recent price and a massive 125% increase over its original $79.99 price.
Just like the previous price hike, this increase only applies to the Steam Deck LCD battery. The replacement battery for the Steam Deck OLED is still available for $79.99, so owners of the other model aren't facing the same increase.
At the moment, iFixit has not explained the reason behind the sudden price hike. However, many users will be disappointed with such a significant increase, especially those who have been considering replacing the battery in their older Steam Deck.
