I had an almost surreal experience today.
I was driving towards the border to cross back from Ukraine to Poland. There is a strict schedule you need to keep to arrive at border in prebooked time. I had some time to spare but parking was sparse. I noticed this sandy layby. There were tracks of other trucks that parked there before, obviously they stop there for the nearby shop. I assumed it will be ok. I was wrong.
As I pulled in, I felt that the sand is giving up and I slid into the ditch. Badly.
I got out to take a look. Some kids approached me and I asked them if they know someone with a tractor. Then within like 2 minutes a police car arrived. They asked what happened, then asked if I have a rope. I had a chain.
They stepped out to the street and hailed a JCB that just happened to drive by. Two cops blocked the traffic and I was pulled back into the tarmac.
The whole ordeal lasted less than 5 minutes. They sent the JCB driver away before I was even able to thank him and told me to go - even though I really expected the ticket as there was no parking sign there (but I am slowly learning that "when in Rome...")
Apart from a scratched paintwork there is no damage to the truck. I was so shocked that I actually drove away and only stopped later as I recalled I should let the company know...
I have to say I sometimes miss the simple times where people just help each other rather than making it a huge health and safety kerfuffle that will cost everyone time and money.
So liquid this one flows! [Blurry picture of a cat]
