Former officers say Navy ships have not been getting enough maintenance. I shudder to think what might be happening with aircraft.

You could see this coming: Hegseth's stupidity and incompetence could end up costing lives.

Start with his firing top officers, which doesn't just destroy morale -- you lose decades of institutional knowledge when those men and women walk out the door. (And the racism and sexism made it worse.)

But this adolescent focus on testosterone and "warfighters" ignores the importance of non-combat roles -- like maintenance. I pray this doesn't happen, but poor or insufficient maintenance could end up costing lives. It may have already done so, and they're covering it up.

Sailors are starving on an aircraft carrier -- meanwhile Trump is spending billions to retrofit carriers with steam-powered catapults. Make it make sense.

Trump, childishly obsessed with magnets, finally got his way and is forcing the Navy to spend billions needlessly replacing electromagnetic catapult systems with old steam-powered catapults. It's classic Trump -- absolutely stupid, a bone-headed decision based on his toddler brain's misunderstanding of something he heard about a complex subject. Which is why the Navy has fought the change. But Trump is like a dog with a bone, and can't let go of his moronic idea.

That's bad enough. But this is happening just thousands of sailors on the USS Lincoln are living in such awful conditions that some have started jumping overboard. Instead of spending billions on a moronic Trump idea, why not spend some money to help actual sailors? Like, give them food. And fix the internal systems -- plumbing, water supplies, etc. And let these poor bastards off the ship.

Nope: Hegseth swears everything's fine on the Lincoln. Nothing to see here, folks.

This is leadership by idiots. It's harming our service members. And it's putting our country in danger.

What are the chances that Trump is using an oil company to provoke Greenland into a conflict?

A Trump-linked US oil company started unloading drilling equipment in Greenland. Greenland says the company will not be granted a permit. I might need a tinfoil hat but — what if the company just goes ahead with its plans, forcing Greenland to shut them down, detain them — and then Trump and Hegseth launch a “mission” to “rescue” the American “hostages” who have been illegally imprisoned by the evil Greenlanders?

Did the Adrenaline 24 have some issues? And is the 25 better?

Old guy here, have been wearing Adrenalines in 9.5 2E for 20+ years, always loved them. I don’t run anymore but they’re still my go-to because of comfort. I have the 23 and I love them, but they got kind of beat up so I bought the 24 — and they’ve never felt quite right. They feel narrower, for one thing. Did they make changes with the 24, or am I just imagining things? (I’m very open to the possibility of that lol.)

How much of WNBA drama is kayfabe?

I’m not sure how cynical I should be about this, but when I see all the drama, fighting, feuds, apologies, racial tension etc. — is that just for ratings? Has someone decided that the best way to get attention is to deliver constant rage bait? Or is this league genuinely that dysfunctional—

A growing narrative that lets MAGAs flee the cult but still save face: “Trump has changed. He’s not the guy I voted for.”

How does your crazy uncle stop supporting Trump without admitting he’s an idiot? He says that Trump has changed and is no longer the same guy. Thus, crazy uncle doesn’t have to admit he was wrong, or stupid, or gullible. He’s just terribly disappointed that Dear Leader has lost his way, probably because of dementia, or because he has bad people advising him— anything that lets them not blame Trump, and not say they’ve changed their beliefs, but still get out.

Some of these people really do want to walk away, but they don’t want everyone they know to laugh at them and tell them they’re idiots. And at the same time, they don’t want to look like turncoats to their fellow MAGA. So they also can throw in the caveat that there’s no way they would ever vote for a Democrat, but they can’t support Trump anymore because he‘s no longer MAGA.

I think that’s why we keep seeing versions of the “Trump has changed” story popping up in the media from different sources. It’s not just MAGA voters. It’s also Republicans in Congress who hate Trump but have been afraid to break from him.

This story lets them say that they’re not breaking with Trump. They’re still loyal to the Trump that existed before. But the new Trump isn’t the old Trump.

MMW: Trump will claim Venezuela hacked the 2020 election for Biden, and Maduro will confirm it

Date: Thursday July 16
Evidence: reports are Trump in his Thursday address is going to release “intel” proving 2020 was stolen. There were recent reports that Maduro was negotiating his release by serving up “intel.” Maduro and his wife will be released soon after. And one day we’ll learn that this is partly why they arrested Maduro in the first place. (Not drug trafficking.)

MMW: Trump isn’t fixing White House columns, he’s replacing them

Date: Aug. 15
Evidence: the White House columns are currently covered with a screen that you can’t see through. The official WH explanation is they’re repairing chips and doing some stone work. But Trump has talked in the past about wanting to replace the Ionic columns with Corinthian columns, which he prefers, because they’re more ornate and he thinks they’re “classy.” He uses Corinthian at Mar-a-Lago and is using them on the new ballroom. As with the ballroom, they’ll destroy the current columns quickly and without asking, and then say, hey, you have to let us build new ones, we can’t leave it like that. (Either that or just replace them completely and then unveil them by taking down the screen.) They’ll argue that the WH columns should match the ballroom. One of his lackeys already proposed changing the WH columns earlier this year. Trump is determined to leave his mark on everything in DC. We’ll find out soon enough.

What’s wrong with the new Air Force One?

Lost in all the noise of the NATO visit was that for some reason the Secret Service wouldn’t let him fly home on the new AF1. They flew the new plane to Mildenhall for some reason. Unclear whether he then flew on the new plane from UK to US. Either way, it was weird. Anyone have theories on what’s going on with that plane?

AI that doesn’t deliver — brought to you by the same VC FOMO hypesters who foisted Bitcoin, blockchain, and Web3 on an unsuspecting world

Enterprise customers are reeling from token bills and wondering where’s the ROI. To be sure — AI will deliver, eventually, but probably after going through the Gartner trough of disillusionment. But meanwhile, the VCs who oversold this, and scared companies that they would fall behind if they didn’t pony up, are cashing in. AI has real value, unlike Bitcoin and and Web3 — but it’s the same old hype game, and people keep falling for it. And yes, I’m looking at you, a16z.

NATO and EU have completely stopped taking Trump seriously

He’s a clown show and they’ve got his number. Greenland, blah blah, they’ve heard it already, and they know it’s all TACO. The mighty US military can’t beat Iran. Now they’re going to attack Greenland? Good luck with that.

The Euros know he’s full of shit and they’re not afraid of him. They’ve accepted that he won’t support NATO. If Russia invades, they’re on their own. No amount of kowtowing will change that. And you can’t trust a word he says, so there’s no point “negotiating” with him. They’ve written him off.

Unfortunately, the US actually needs NATO. And after all this BS, they won’t be here for us.

$10k used for a SBGP015 that cost $3.8k new?

Someone on Bezel is asking $10k for SBGP015. Yes, it was a limited edition, and a lovely watch. But a few years ago an AD couldn't move one and offered me a deal to get rid of it. And others are selling them for $2.3k. Is Bezel a scammy site?
