He won’t move from the dishwasher

My old man loves to lay behind me in the kitchen as I make food. He doesn’t mind “helping” when I load or unload the dishwasher.

New doorknob latch won’t return to position

I’m replacing my doorknobs. Two knobs and two deadbolts. The bolts and one knob are done. One of the new knobs won’t return to its original position once I turn and release it. It stops about halfway. The same happens when I press on the latch. However, if I loosen the screws a little, it works fine. But the knob is no longer steady. Why wouldn’t the latch return when the knob is secured in place?

An extra set of copper wires behind a smoke detector?

I need to replace a hardwired smoke detector. The hole in the ceiling (forgive me I don’t know the technical term) contains an extra set of copper wires, twisted together with a wire nut. I assume leave that alone and connect all the colored wires?

Minnesota. Do disbursements from a trust affect child support payments?

I recently inherited a trust. I’m told any disbursements from this trust would likely affect how much child support I owe. My child support representative says it does not. I asked for that in writing. Which is it? Do I owe more in child support when I receive a check from the trust?

Do disbursements from a trust contribute to an obligation?

I recently inherited a trust. I’m told any disbursements from this trust would likely affect how much child support I owe. My child support representative says it does not. I asked for that in writing. Which is it? Do I owe more in child support when I receive a check from the trust? This is Minnesota, if that matters.

Can I turn opened items, no packaging?

I bought these for a plumbing project that ultimately I couldn’t do. They are both opened and the packaging is gone. Can I return?

Are the cube magnets durable?

I’m considering the cube Magnetar magnets. 1. I’m worried the corners will chip off. 2. I have a Brute one-sided that gets stuck in rocks. Has anyone gotten theirs stuck between two objects?

The bad: Not great looking, awkward at first, not a fan of cats or traveling the world.

The good: well educated, proudly nerdy, ferociously loyal, emotionally available, fiercely compassionate, saves lives thru donating blood and packing meals, unafraid to be vulnerable. I’ve helped over 60 foster dogs find their forever homes.

I enjoy exercising, magnet fishing, axe throwing, archery, board games, fix it projects, puzzles, dog agility, reading suspense novels and being a good dad.

He loves his snuffle mat!

His legs are weak but his spirit is strong. He loves to catch his lamb toy, lick a peanut butter lickmat (he even carries it with him around the room), and hunt for treats in his snuffle mat.

I don’t think he will last much past the fall. 12 years old, myelopathy and a “mystery lump” (which the vet said is benign but the next step is surgery $$$ if it grows).

I love this guy so much. ❤️❤️

Drip from passenger side

2019 Toyota RAV4. 120k miles. Automatic.

Each time I drive there is a leak on the passenger side. It’s hot out. Maybe related to air conditioning? Should I be concerned?

This old man is getting ready for the heat!

We live in Minnesota. He’s originally from Costa Rica but doesn’t like heat. We go outside, he pees, and he runs (best as he can anyway) back to the house.

Will vinegar damage thread tape?

Years ago, I attached this t-shaped piece to my shower head to attach a separate hose, which I used to bathe my dog. I want to soak the whole thing in vinegar and water to clean it, not just the white shower head. There is green build up in the “T”. Would vinegar do any damage to the thread tape (I think that’s what it’s called)?

Inherited IRA withdrawals

Edit: Question answered. Thanks everyone!

I recently gained an “Inherited IRA”. I already have my own IRA and decided to use the Inherited one to pay my mortgage each month. And yes it gets taxed each time I withdraw. It’s still free money and I need the money for bills now.

As a result, my monthly expenses will decrease. I am also considering increasing my employer 401k contributions, since it frees up some room in my bank account. But would this essentially mean the money used to pay the mortgage gets taxed again upon retirement?

Main water shut off valve replaced

I needed the main water shut off valve replaced (my fault). The pipe originally had foam insulation wrapped around it. The plumber had to remove it to do his job. He says it doesn’t need new insulation. For context, it is a town house. This space is an “internal” room. The wall behind it is a neighboring unit. So no exposure to winter temperatures unless you want to count the concrete slab and the fresh air intake. It’s also where the water softener, heater and furnace are.

Is he correct that I don’t need to replace the insulation?

Shut off valve replacement

I need to replace all the shut off valves in my house. I didn’t realize there are so many sizes!

Here is one photo of a toilet valve. Others have green corrosion on them. The nut leading to the toilet is 5/8”. The pipe from the wall is 5/8” diameter. The nut on that pipe is 1”.

What size valve do I need? Menards didn’t have anything “5/8 x 5/8”.

For tools, I have crescent wrenches, emery paper, thread tape, and a pipe brush. What other tools do I need?
