How do I move on from this and forgive myself?

I graduated from high school in 2025, and I really messed up since then. I didn't get a job, I went to my uni classes sometimes, and most of the time I spent isolated at home. I didn't take care of myself at all, and I feel really guilty about this, especially. I had braces and was supposed to get my overbite fixed, and I'm not sure why I continued the treatment, but I completely messed up my face because of it. It's a noticeable downgrade, and I've gotten negative feedback from people who know me. As a girl, this choice has bothered me since I noticed a significant difference. I feel guilty and embarrassed about it. I feel like it is proof of how poorly I treated myself during this time. How can I move on from all the guilt and try to forget about this?

Did anyone else have a glow down after high school?

Right when high school ended last year I went through a really rough period where I was sad and didn’t feel like myself. I got my overbite fixed which completely changed my face for some reason. I was really sad about it and I would have not made that decision if i was in a better head space. I only became pretty in my last year of high school, and I feel like I lost it now. I feel terrible about myself, seeing all the other girls looking good and I just feel embarrassed, I know looks aren’t everything but I can’t help but miss my old face all the time.

Does this mean I peaked in high school?

I graduated from high school last year, and ever since then I've been a complete mess. I went to university, but I didn't get a job, gained weight, and became depressed for 6 months. On top of that, this winter my face changed drastically because my orthodontist fixed my overbite, and I really regret it. It made me less attractive, and I am afraid people will think I peaked in high school. I was one of the prettier girls. After this incident, I'm afraid people who knew me will notice that I look bad since it is a pretty big difference. I have lost weight, started going to the gym again, and got a job, and I am trying to take care of myself now, but I can't help but feel really bad and embarrassed about it, and I really don't want to be one of those who "peak" in high school.

How do I forgive myself?

A few months ago, I didn't listen to my intuition and made a mistake that negatively affected my appearance permanently. I did it at a low point in my life, knowing that it was probably wrong, and still did it.

I feel like this choice went against my beliefs, identity, and who I want to be. I'm a young woman, and I really care about how I look and how others perceive me. I really liked how I looked before, and I got a lot of attention for it. I feel like I betrayed myself because it is not something I would typically do, and I am really having a hard time forgiving myself.

I know it might not sound like a big deal to others, but it has caused me a lot of pain, and I just want to be able to forgive myself, learn self-respect, and move on.

Question about elastics for braces

Can a bite relapse if i didn’t wear my elastics consistently? I still have my braces on and i have a 1 mm overbite now, before it was close to 1 cm. Could it relapse if i don’t wear them anymore?
