More is NOT always better. Can we practice a little patience?

Over the last week, I have seen 5 + posts from people who "don't feel anything" and so they want to take another shot, or add another 2.5mg to their already starting dose of 2.5, or take a shot every day till they feel something, or what have you.

WTF?

More is not always better. The meds build up in your body over time and each dose needs 4 weeks minimum.

Hunger is not the enemy. Today, someone posted they woke up hungry and they want to give themselves another shot. WTF? You SHOULD wake up hungry. Those of you who never want to feel honest, healthy hunger? You need to get yourselves into therapy to discuss your eating disorders.

A natural, healthy hunger is NORMAL. Food noise/obsession after having a nutritious meal is different, but waking up hungry after not eating since the night before is normal and should never warrant taking another shot.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be weeks you lose, weeks you maintain, and weeks you gain - even if you do everything right. That is called weight loss and it is normal. I do not know what stupid TikTok influencer these people are following that convinces them that MORE MORE MORE is the way to go, but stop listening to those shilling moronic idiots!!!!!! Those ppl would sell their mother for more ego likes b/c they have no self esteem to begin with.

This is a long term progression toward better health. Do not rush the process and do not be impatient.

Suggestions? Fitbit Luxe is dying

I've had a Fitbit Luxe which I really like, but the thing is not reliable anymore. Randomly, the screen will go black and I have to hook up the charger just to get it to display/track steps/track sleep, even when the battery is at 90%.

The 1 thing I do not like about the Luxe is that it isn't waterproof, and I'd like to be able to accurately track calories burned/movement when doing water aerobics.

Suggestions?

Things important: waterproof, not over $150, tracks sleep/nutrition/heart rate/steps, would like a decent design like the Luxe but not a full dealbreaker. I don't want to look as if I am wearing a giant black box on my wrist either, though.

Things not important: any kind of text or calling with my watch. I have a phone for that. Don't need my watch to show me texts; could care less.

TIA!

Fitbit Luxe just blacks out, stops tracking

My Fitbit Luxe is 4 years old and recently, it just blacks out. I can't press it to see the time or anything else, but the battery according to the app is above 90%. This is frustrating b/c I need to stop, put it on the charger for 5 min to light up and do its thing, and then it goes back to normal.

What gives?

Insurance won't pay for robotic...

UPDATE: My surgeon only does robotic surgeries and is charging me $250 as part of the procedure to allow for robotic, since insurance refuses to cover. So I am happy! I wanted robotic and $250 is affordable.

I am not on Medicare; I'm 58 so have a regular PPO plan. They are saying they will pay for a knee replacement but not for anything robotic, as it "isn't medically necessary." My surgeon does robotic surgeries and it's one of the reasons I chose him over the other doctor at the practice.

Does appealing work? How much more does it cost out of pocket/self pay for robotic? I have always heard good things about robotic surgeries so I have a message into my surgeon's team but wondered if anyone had the same scenario and got it covered?

Delayed meds, UPS mis-sorted and now meds fully late - help?

I have reached out to Pom support but I don't know what else to do. I haven't heard back anything, which is frustrating.

My BPI 2 vial package was sent 2nd day air on 7/31, was supposed to arrive 8/3 but it said it was delayed. So I expected it today. Now they tell me that there has been an exception and due to a mis-sorting, the meds are no longer in my state but have gone to Ft Walton Florida!!! In the heat, and who knows how long it will take to finally get back to me, what am I supposed to do?

Can I call BPI and get a replacement? Because I have not heard a word from Pom. HELP?????

Do I need a shower transfer bench?

I have a shower chair, but it's not a transfer bench and does not go "over" the tub side. I do have a handicap long rail in the tub.

I'm trying to figure out whether to get a transfer bench or if it will really be needed if I have a handicap bar, but it is not a walk in shower - it's a step over the tub kinda shower.

Thoughts?

Outside chair/patio furniture?

Hi all,

I am a planner so even tho my TKR is not til Sept, I am wondering if having a steel chair with arms outside on the patio is good enough to go outside and enjoy nature during my recovery? I have a table next to it where I could keep some water, and I do have a small side table that I could use to prop up my leg/elevate if needed.

Just thinking that I will get sick of being in the house and going to PT so trying to plan for outdoor time.

thx!

Your intake form not working

I was trying to order the 3 vial BPI deal but it keeps telling me it needs my year of birth, which has already been selected and filled out in that field in the intake form.

I was already hesitant to even try your company based on the numerous customer service complaints, and now the form that has valid info won't even work? This does not inspire confidence.

Getting a walker & other med equipment

Hi all,

I am buying the leg strap, taller toilet seat, etc. off of Amazon, and a friend is loaning me her ice compression setup machine.

But what about a walker? I am assuming insurance will not pay for it but I don't know. I have one old walker and would like another one so I have one on 2 levels - the upstairs and the main kitchen/den level.

Where did you get your walkers? I already have a cane and have been using it on painful days as I await my TKR in Sept.

Told my employer - now it feels real!

My surgery date is Sept 9, and I am attending a joint replacement class next week.

Told my employer and the company I do work for today. Now it feels officially real and some anxiety is creeping in.

The good thing about this being almost 2 months away is that I am doing alot of pre-hab exercises to the best that I can amidst the pain. I am also keeping hand weight dumbbells on my desk to do bicep/tricep curls for when I am spinning out with anxiety b/c at least lifting weights is doing something productive to help me, whereas letting myself get in a panic won't do much good.

Thanks so much to everyone in this community who have shared their tips and input. I have an ice machine that a friend has lent me. I already have handicap bars in the bathroom/shower and a shower chair, as well as sturdy hand rails on the stairs. Am hoping for the best but kinda just realizing how 'real' this is!

Anyone still have BPI stock?

I don't care if it is a short BUD or not. I looked at JoinCrossing but they never mention pharmacy. Neither does Good Life Meds, where I've gotten BPI before.

MRI pre TKR?

Did anyone have an MRI before TKR? I haven't as x-rays show advanced/severe arthritis. But what happens if I have a torn ACL or other ligament issues when he gets in there? Should I ask for an MRI?

Compensating for pain - a talent?

I've had arthritic knees for many years but they didn't start hurting until 2 years ago. Did the gel shots, cortisone, lost weight, etc. and the pain lessened. Now it's back in 1 knee and I'm having TKR this fall.

But that got me to thinking about all the things I've been doing to compensate for the pain...

1 - in order to hold the hand rail to go down a set of 7 stairs, I carry my breakfast (2 hardboiled eggs) in a napkin, in my mouth, like a mother cat carries her kittens. I carry my iced coffee in the other hand and 1 hand on the rail. I like to think this is a talent I now have, but it's ridiculous that I am able to do this just to manage the pain/balance.

2 - I have used the "good leg up, bad leg down" on stairs for over a year now. So at least I will be prepared for that routine after TKR, b/c that has become my new normal.

3 - I am going to buy a shower transfer bench b/c I do have a tub. Right now, it has handicap bars so I am able to step in with good leg, hold bar, swing the bad knee leg over, and take a shower. This likely will not work after TKR as well so a shower bench it is.

Anything anyone else did to compensate?

Even your dentist needs to know you're on a GLP1

Just a general PSA for those who don't think it's important. You should be telling ALL your doctors that you are on a GLP1. If you don't think your doctors will like the idea that you take compounded, just tell them you are on name brand and your dose. The point is that they know you're on a GLP1; they don't need to know or lecture you about compound and their opinions (if applicable).

Yes, even your dentist. GLP1s can cause excess bleeding and whether you're going in for a teeth cleaning or a crown, bleeding is a risk. They need to know.

I'm looking at having a knee replacement this fall, and I never realized how important it is to inform your dentist of everything. I can't do a dental cleaning within 6 weeks prior to surgery or 3 months after surgery, due to infection risks. I have to take antibiotics before teeth cleanings for the next 2 years because of this. I never knew.

My point being - tell your docs you're on the shot and don't forget to tell your dentist :)

Gait & Pain Pre-Op Suggestions?

I have my TKR scheduled for Sept 9, it was the surgeon's first available date. When I had my initial consult, he mentioned that my IT band was inflamed and that I was getting somewhat bow-legged due to the arthritis pain being worse on the inner part of my knee.

Question - how did you manage pain/gait before getting the TKR? I realize I have to wait and I'm doing all the prep/strength training I can do before that time, but the unpredictability of the arthritis pain makes it hard to plan things, even going to the pool.

Some days, it's 3/10 pain level and I can attempt a normal gait. Many days, the pain is 10/10 and I am barely able to hobble with a cane. Now my hips hurt due to overcompensating for the left knee pain. I don't want to make my condition worse, but I don't know what else to do?

I am continuing to lose weight (lost 90 lbs prior to now), going to the pool 2x/week, taking 1600mg ibuprofen and Voltaren daily. I have Tramadol to take at night if needed. I've been heating/icing the knee.

I know that the waiting sucks and I'm trying to do what pre-op exercises I can, but just wondering how everyone else managed? I know the pain will be bad after TKR; my friends tell me that "healing pain" is better than "severe arthritis pain" and that at least the healing pain will improve.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Dental clearance? Why?

UPDATE: Many thx everyone! I did call my surgeon's office who said do dental 6 wks prior or 3 mos after. They had a cancellation this morning and I got my cleaning done, 10 weeks prior! Yay!!

Hi all,

The only paper/clearance my surgeon gave me is medical. I have to get bloodwork and a EKG done at my PCP. Now I'm hearing lots of people talk about a dental clearance.

1 - why would you need that? What do teeth have to do with TKR?

I was not aware that I may have to take antibiotics before dental appts going forward, will ask surgeon about that, but I guess I just am wondering if they should have asked for a dental clearance and they didn't - but I don't even understand why it would be needed.
