In Edinburgh, they have moved the camera to the left again, maybe zoomed in? We can a couple king penguins rather close to the camera, and still have a view of some chicks! There is one chick in the top left, laying on some concrete near what looks like a pole; this one looks like it has shed the least baby fluff so I might be the youngest visible. I think there is another in the top right corner, although this one looks like it has shed the most baby fluff. And then we have one under the yellow gazebo in the middle, where it is looking for some more food and chases its parent who is trying to also keep another penguin pair off its nest.

Here, the penguins continue hanging out and regrouping 🐧

In these clips, taken in February after the chicks fledged from their nests, we can see the Magellan penguins gathering on the shore, watching the waters with caution. We can even see some commotion out on the water in the distance if you look carefully. Towards the end of the video, there is a big rush away from the water.

These screenshots were taken at the end of January earlier this year, when Mr and Mrs Blue had their third batch of eggs hatch for the season. These are from January 26 to February 3, and we can see that the chicks grow pretty quickly. In a week’s time they basically double in size, going from both easily fitting under a parent to being too big to do so.

This little chick has started to lose its baby fluff! Just on the flippers so far. As it loses more on its back and body, we will see some very stylish hairdos!

In this video, we see the gentoos up to their usual business. It looks like one of the blue gazebos on the left has been moved one nest to the left; I’m not sure why, at this point the gazebos offer some nice shade but there are many that are on nests without chicks.

The big action of this clip comes at 2 minutes and 10 seconds, when 2 parents running away from their respective chicks almost run right into each other towards right side of the screen in an alley between the gazebos. The top one veers to the left and a crash is avoided.

Hello penguin gang! Here is a video I got from the Edinburgh Zoo gentoos earlier today. One of the youngest chicks can be seen closest to the camera at the beginning of the video, and stays near its nest of the middle yellow gazebo throughout. It has not lost much of its baby fluff yet but like the others it has its white headband showing which means the rest of the fluff will soon be falling off as well! The older chicks have already been going through this process. Some, maybe the oldest who fell in the water and may belong to Muffin & Mittens, look like they barely have any left! There are also others who are more in the middle stage, and have some wild teenage hairdos.

And of course, there is lots of running around in the colony going on!

Hello penguin gang! Here is a picture of some of my favorite penguinos! This is after they finished their catastrophic molt. Now they are out fishing in the ocean, hopefully to return in a few months for another breeding season.

Might be the longest I’ve seen a chick in the water so far. This time it looks like it is the chick from the left yellow gazebo. The chick starts chasing the parent and starts sliding on the water stream and then slips into the water at 31 seconds.

Once again, the adults come gather around to ‘help’. The chick gets back on land at 2:13 a bit to the right of where it went in, close to the middle of the screen.

Emperor penguins are now classified as Endangered.
Each year Emperors are facing a growing challenge of less time on their sea-ice home in Antarctica where they raise their chicks, largely due to rising temperatures from climate change. Early ice breakups are causing catastrophic breeding failures in the Emperor penguin colonies.

Here we have Stumpy hanging out in the nest, when his mate makes some nice nesting deliveries right on top of him!
