Nov 8–26 trip after this year's storms. Should I actually worry about rain and floods?

Two of us, Nov 8–26. Tokyo → Nikko → Kawaguchiko → Hakone → Takayama → Kyoto → Osaka → Fukuoka (Takachiho day trip) → Hiroshima/Miyajima → Tokyo. All booked, changing dates will be really tough.

Japan looks rough from outside with the floods and I'm worried about the weather in November. Let me know what I should do, if its going to be worse, I can still try to cancel my trip :(

We were almost kidnapped

Im a foreign tourist in Brazil. It happened in Rio around 11pm. Myself and my wife took a Uber black ride from Lapa arch to the Botafago. My wife was sitting in the back and I was sitting in the front. The driver picked us up and started going in the opposite direction. I first thought, he would probably know the route better and will take the fastest possible route. Then, he did not stop in any signals. He didn't let us open any of the windows, was saying there is a possibility of theft. All windows were tinted, including the front windshield. The car did not have any headlights on. When asked about going in wrong directions or not letting us open the windows, he was giving some random reasons like theft and all, which seems irrelevant as we are going in a car. He was typing all of these responses in his translator and showing me. I felt like we were being kidnapped. I wanted to call 190, but I can’t speak portugués. Then I asked the driver to stop in the middle of the highway (we shouldn’t even been there in the first place) and got off. Booked another Uber and got home. Am I overthinking or Got out of a huge trouble.

Edit: Thanks for all the responses. I have been thinking about it, talking with a few friends from brazil about it too. I might’ve panicked for no reason in the heat of the moment. A lot of things that are usually red flags, seemed normal in Rio. All the safety warnings I read before I went to Rio led me to overthink in that situation. This post is not meant to scare anyone visiting Rio or affect the sentiment of the residents of Rio. I think this post should help anyone who probably visit Rio to better understand the normals in Rio.

How to book award flights to LHR

I'm new to booking award flights. Just got pro subscription in 'seatsdotaero' for a month. I'm looking to book business class flights for myself and my wife to LHR around mid 2027. What are all the things I should watch out for? How do I know if I got the best deals? Are there any airlines where I should transfer the points to and be ready?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks for your time.

Best way to get from Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) to the Argentinian side of Iguazú Falls without a private transfer?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be visiting Foz do Iguaçu in July and want to spend a day visiting the Argentinian side of Iguazú Falls.

We'll be staying near Foz do Iguaçu Airport (IGU) and are looking for the most economical and reliable way to get to Parque Nacional Iguazú (Argentina). Most private transfers I've found seem quite expensive for just two people.

A few questions:

  • What is the easiest public bus route from Foz do Iguaçu to the Argentinian side and timing?
  • Which bus should we take, where do we board, and where do we get off?
  • How does immigration work at the Brazil–Argentina border when using public transport?
  • Do buses wait while passengers clear immigration, or do we need to catch another bus?
  • Would Uber/taxi to the border and then another ride in Argentina be a better option?

Any recent experiences, costs, or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Went to gym after 6 months of surgery. Now shoulder pain is coming back again.

6 months back I did a arthroscopic rotator cuff fix up for supraspinatus tear. My recovery was going very well. I was consistently going to PT and was doing all the exercises. I was getting back my range of motion and started feeling good. I went to consult my surgeon after 6 month mark and he said Im fine to go to gym, but not lift heavy.

I went two days to gym, did some bicep, tricep exercises and back exercises with weights I was comfortable. Didn’t try any shoulder exercises as I was not fully comfortable.

The exercises were fine, I didn’t feel any pain during workout. But after two days, when I woke up from sleep, I started feeling some pain on my shoulder. Now its been two weeks, and I feel my shoulder is getting tighter day by day and my range of motion is going down, with pain level going up and down.

Im worried if the fixed tendon is torn again. But when I searched online, I have seen some people mentioning that its part of the recovery process.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Im kinda depressed and disappointed with attempting to go to gym :(

Luggage storage options in Rio

I'm planning to visit RIO in July, but my flight lands around 8 in the morning. All the hotels/airbnb checkins start at 3pm. Is there a way I can store my luggages somewhere and explore the city before I check in to the hotel? Do Airbnbs hold the luggage before checking / after checkout?
