I have an extra ticket to the Phoebe Bridgers planetarium experience

I bought two tickets to the pre-release album listening experience at the Science Center of Iowa planetarium. Custom visuals, it should be absolutely sick. Link here: https://planetariumexperience.phoebebridgers.com.

EDIT: these are for Thursday at 5:35pm!

The person who was going to come with me bailed, and I don’t want there to be an empty seat on my behalf.

If you’re in the Des Moines area and want to go to the show DM me. I can just meet you at the doors and we can walk in together so they can scan both tickets. Just pay me $20 (purchase price of single ticket) either cash or Venmo when we meet up. Happy to just get you in, then we can split up if you have other friends to go with (I’m not looking for a +1!).

DM me if interested!

Before/after: wife wanted beard trimmed

I was really wanting to let it rip and go a few more months, but wifey wanted it trimmed shorter so I obliged. A bit bummed to see it go but I’m feeling pretty good about the tighter look, too.

EDIT: I was not forced to trim it! I wanted to do it because I know she likes the look.

EDIT 2: lots of y’all are in unhappy marriages holy shit!

Long time listener, first time caller

Been working on shaping this beard for maybe ~3-4 months, and recently attempted to blend (taper?) my sideburns with my very short buzz on top. All just eyeballing in the mirror with scissors. I’m quite happy with where things are and will see what happens as it gets longer. My beard hair is very straight and coarse, and for the most part it shapes itself - I just trim stragglers. I trim my mustache a bit more often to avoid the overhang.

Would love any feedback, advice, or other thoughts on where to go from here or how to improve the look!

Electric lawnmower fire in garage overnight

EDIT I called the fire department over and they are opening an investigation into the lawnmower manufacturer, which I incorrectly called a craftsman, but was actually a SKIL. Thank you for your input, the fire martial will let me know more tomorrow morning when he stops by. They told me the garage wasnt damaged and insurance shouldn't be needed if I dont want to have the car or bike fixed (which i dont because they were active projects). They did say that they are getting more and more calls about lithium battery fires as they become more commonplace. EDIT

I came home from work today and opened my garage to do some engine work on my project car and the whole garage was black with soot inside. The craftsman electric lawnmower caught fire and consumed itself almost entirely. Battery was in it, was not plugged in and was not on in any way.

My project car had some paint damage, although it was in the middle of a restoration and the paint and body was already next on the list as it was junk. So no loss there, just a little extra work.

One 1994 ducati 900ss was minimally damaged. Just a windscreen and a turn signal will need to be replaced. The other bikes were fine. The rake and metal detector in my rafters melted, as well as some other plastic car parts I was storing up there that werent necessary or valuable.

The garage itself is very dirty as it contained all the smoke. The rafters did not catch fire, but I know it was hot up there because anything plastic above 7 feet has deformed. Rake, automotive interior trim, metal detector, even some hot wheels packages i had hanging on the wall

Overall, I lost nothing of value and I consider myself very lucky. However, I have no idea where to start. My homeowners policy has a $2k deductible. I didn't lose that amount in damage, and I really don't want to pay that for no reason as I just had a $3k vet bill yesterday. Do I contact craftsman to see what they say? Do I call the fire dept to make a statement? Do I just suck it up and be thankful as nothing of value was destroyed?

Any and all input, please.

Brand new mower - random blades of grass not being cut. How to fix?

I just bought a brand new Craftsman electric self-propelled push mower. Batteries are new, I use them fully charged, and rotary blade is new and installed properly. I’m not using the bag attachment and just letting the grass clippings stay where they are cut. There is no buildup of grass clippings underneath the mower or near the blade.

As I mow, many random blades of grass do not get cut. It looks like my lawn is getting a bad hairdo. I tried to take a photo of the grass, but it’s hard to show. Looks terrible!

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on or how I can fix it? My first thought was maybe the blade is dull but it’s brand new so it shouldn’t be.

How would you approach re-lawning these edges?

Just bought a new house in eastern Iowa. Previous owners really neglected the areas where the lawn meets the concrete driveway. Some areas have eroded from rain and so they are lower than the driveway - will need to maybe add new soil? I’m new to lawn maintenance (previously in SW US) and I’m not even sure where to start. I’d really appreciate advice on how to bring back grass to these areas and create a seamless edge between the lawn and driveway. Thanks!

What is it like living in this neighborhood?

Looking at buying a house in this area, maybe called “Tudor Park”? Wondering if anyone has lived here or spent time in this area? Thanks!

I’m really interested in this 90-year old house in the midwestern US. The only hang up is that the house has clearly had foundation issues in the past. The city where the house is located had major flooding about 20 years ago, and of course intense freeze-thaw cycles every year. Many block foundation houses in the city show signs of inward bowing.

The previous homeowner of the house I’m interested in clearly has done the work to address the issue - they have wall plates (like in the cartoon above) around the entire perimeter of the basement foundation. On the one hand, the issue seems under control. On the other hand, it’s just a bit scary to invest in a house with known foundation issues.

If we make an offer we’ll hire a structural engineer to take a look. But what do you think about wall plate anchors as a long term solution for foundation issues?

First picture is the general region, the second is the smaller area where we see some houses we’re interested in. What’s this area like?
