Are we having a moment in the US right now?

You know, a lot sucks for a lot of people right now but am I crazy to feel like Muslims with progressive values are having a moment in the spotlight right now?

Between Zohran’s social media savvy and his focus on making the city government work for the people and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed’s win in Michigan despite being massively outspent, it feels like progressive Muslims are becoming the standard bearers for the progressive movement at large.

How is everyone feeling? 20 years ago if you had told me that a Muslim guy named Zohran Mamdani would end up mayor of NYC I would have said you’re crazy.

It’s been pretty exciting and motivating for me in my community work (though if AES becomes Senator we’re all gonna be asked by our parents why we aren’t MD-PhDs AND US Senators like him 🤣)

Fun With Capitalist Propaganda

They’ve reframed wages as “employment cost.”

In a classic case of political language being used to distort social reality, the very idea of wages as an end in itself, and as an inherent good for the people, has been flipped on its head. The general benefit of wage gains is reframed as “but at what cost to our benevolent job-creators?”

The multigenerational legacy of neoliberalism, Reagan’s “supply-side economics,” has yielded this shift in discourse. Pro-working class language has completely left the conversation in favor of pro-capitalist discursive framings.

Almost seems like the threat of AI job loss is a logical outcome when you shape the conversation in this way.

Traoré Just Made Sharia Illegal. He's Muslim

Edit: As some have reminded me, I forgot the mandatory disclaimer thst Russia is EVILLLLLL (!).

The Sahel States are uniting against the twin oppressions of Western imperialism and its Wahabist/Salafist byproduct.

West African countries have until now received Saudi money for mosque-building, imam training, and scholarships. Ibrahim Traoré, who I believe is one of the few, if not the only great leaders in the world today, is not simply declaring the abolition of Sharia, but has actually arrested a prominent cleric for promoting faith-healing and other quackery.

Community notes = propaganda as an open-source collaborative work

”Community notes” is a social media narrative structure that is a very effective format for portraying liberal bias as objective.

Burkinabé state media, Sidwaya: "The new political economy."

As our editorialist recalled yesterday, Monday, the 2026-2030 Recovery Plan aims to build a strong and prosperous economy for the benefit of everyone and based on our own resources. This therefore presupposes a new political economy, with the appropriation by the State of a significant part of the means of production which must be understood as an appropriation by the Nation rather than by a particular class so that the investment effort made by public companies is the manifestation of a national development policy in independence.

A state capitalism in its structures and nationalist in its logic, with a dirigist system where all or part of the means of production are legally owned by the State or controlled by public bodies. An intermediate phase to reach the socialist society to which we all aspire. If it is necessary, in fact, to awaken the majority of the population to the need for a socialist revolution (through policy options and a programmatic platform), we must not conceal the need to take urgent and essential revolutionary measures to combat economic disorganization.

In addition to the already effective nationalization of the land, the control of the financial and banking system is necessary for the implementation of the programmatic platform of the Revolution. These measures, which constitute the first steps towards socialism, are perfectly feasible from an economic point of view. We must therefore restore all its centrality to the State at the current stage of our socio-economic process.

This, finally, as Engels said, so that "antagonisms, classes with opposing economic interests do not consume themselves, they and society in a sterile struggle". Hence the need as indicated above for a power that, "apparently placed above society, must fade the conflict, keep it within the limits of order".

Here is expressed the fundamental idea of the revolutionaries about the historical role and meaning of the State. It is therefore on this principled and programmatic approach that the comrade-President of Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, launched the process of political, economic and social refoundation of the country which will lead to a qualitative leap in all areas and condemn ad vitam aeternam the counter-revolution to disinheritance. Hence the renewed activity of counter-revolutionaries and revisionists who want to "explode" the revolution with rumors, misinformation and misinformation to restore the old order.

Faced with this propaganda campaign, the need arises to link politics to an avant-garde organ where those who have firm principles and an appropriate plan are the supreme regulators of the struggle of the organ to which they dictate the execution of their plan. Vigilance is all the more necessary as many Burkinabè are inexperienced in revolution. It is not "autocratism" but rather a work of awareness to bring down the outgrown theories on the "broad democratism" that the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP) cannot accommodate.

Already, the results of the RPP's experience are before our eyes and prove to our satiety that it has understood its duty at this stage of our socio-political and economic march. The sovereign people therefore continue their resolute march towards progress and hope for all.

If they haven’t banned you, are you even a true Muslim?

I had verses, and they just kept asking “but what verses do you have?”
