Concerns about recent support

Concerns about recent support

Let me start by saying I love my Red Dragon stuff. I'm disabled and had pet parrots that absolutely destroyed another companies stuff. The community really helped me figure out what I needed and it's been great.

Until now. I just got a new pc. I missed some of my lighting effects. The driver does not exist on your main site. The reddragonshop site has it but it says no keyboard found. I ran through all of the possible troubleshooting. Joined the discord. Was told to redo all the troubleshooting which I did. Confirmed that I had the correct thing. Confirmed that I had even tried to version I don't have. No further response from that person. Two days later I pushed for help. A different user who is not labeled in any way responded and directed me to a random google drive to download update tool.exe and then a different driver again from random google drive. Which I mean I'm just not going to do.

My issue is that the discord seems to be full of people with similar issues. If this is a real fix why isn't it being pushed to the website. Why are the drivers for this keyboard missing on the red dragon site in the first place and if it's not why isn't the support channel on the discord suggested by the website being policed?

We have to talk about the actual hatred directed towards Mods

Not for the first time and I am certain not for the last one of the subreddits I am involved with was unlucky enough to have an interaction with a user who I will simply describe as unwell. A three day ban for uncivil behavior turned into an argumentative mod mail in the course of which a much longer history of uncivil behavior was uncovered and the ban was made permanent. Tldr the user has now made at least 8 accounts to continue harassing us in modmail despite being directly told to stop and being banned and muted each time and has fixated on a member of the mod team they believe to be the offender messaging them in DM despite not being engaged with except to tell them that their behavior was harassing and to stop. All of this was reported to Reddit by multiple members of the Mod Team. Today that user has messaged again. "Reddit even unbanned this account after manually reviewing my behaviour." which they have taken as justification that they are correct in their belief that "On top of that there is no TOS against using another account to talk to mod mail. Which is all I tried to do and got perma banned and insta muted before I could even say as much as what did I do wrong? Which again is the wrong way to handle the job.

A volunteer should know what they are getting into and should be aware a calm person saying sorry is not harassment. Espically since I’m sure you’ve all seen real harassment. You can document and refer to reddit as much as you want and they won’t be doing anything other than maybe muting this account again for reaching out. Due to the fact apologies and self reflection are not harassment. And there again is no TOS against trying to have a convo with a mod directly."

While this is an obnoxious and upsetting situation because it is clear that this user is going to continue to attack our Mod team for imagined slights I actually am not complaining specifically about that. This is not a unique situation. In my time as a mod I have seen users threaten to find mods in real life, be clear that they will continue months long harassment campaigns from multiple accounts and even seen it taken to other subreddits to urge them to bully mods. ALSO still not what I want to talk about. Because the issue is the lack of support from Reddit itself in DEALING with these users. It is a recurring issue. When people are extremely uncivil and threatening we ban them from our subreddits in accordance with the platform guidelines as well as our own. However when reports about prolonged obvious harassment go no higher its taken as permission to continue. In the past months in addition to this user who apparently was unbanned Reddit also unbanned a user who posted pictures of an actual murder victim being lynched to threaten another user, unbanned a user who posted gruesome domestic violence pictures on a subreddit they ran saying that our subreddit wanted to see more like it because we enjoy silencing victims due to our policy of not allowing injury pictures or images of very serious situations and for months we had someone urging people to harass us, threaten us and doxing us by actual names under the mistaken belief that we had gotten them demodded from a subreddit. In that case Admin was involved and the user continued to make new accounts and even new subreddits despite being very obviously the same person. It only stopped when someone else confessed to the original slight.

I am not suggesting Reddit is responsible for the actions of its most unbalanced users or can prevent all issues. I am not suggesting that as mods no one should be able to argue with us or must be nice to us. I am saying it is a very big problem that claims of harassment, not only against mods, really seem to be ignored at best and cosigned at worst once blocking no longer works. The above subreddit report system needs more transparency and accountability. The ban evasion system needs a major retooling and most of all there needs to be extremely clear language in the platform rules that express that engaging with users or communities that have made clear that they don't want contact with you is out of bounds. This language needs to be clearly expressed to users if Reddit decides they do not need to remain banned although I will remain mind blown that appeals were successful in the serious situations mentioned.

ETA I am getting a lot of really great advice about blocking and ignoring the user in this specific situation but my actual issue it that this is a recurring type of issue that often spills onto other subreddits and onto other members of the mod team. Blocking and ignore work in MOST cases and they are critical recommendations but they do not help with extreme levels of harassment that spill into areas we don't control. The perception this user has that they are allowed to be actively hostile towards volunteer mods because that's what the job is not a rare one. I have a formal warning for repeating a comment where a user said on this very subreddit that it was good that mods were getting threats and hate mail and that they wanted us to be afraid. While that comment was ultimately taken down it was upvoted multiple times in the period it was up even on a mod focused subreddit. I'm not asking Admin to fix Internet Users. I'm asking for more transparency with how this above subreddit level reports are handled and maybe a policy of taking reports of ongoing harassment, not just from mods, and reports from multiple users or mod teams more seriously when it comes to bans and appeals.

Trial Run Follow-Up: We'd Like Your Feedback and Recommendations

Trial Run Follow-Up: We'd Like Your Feedback

Over the past several weeks we've tried a number of changes aimed at improving r/NetflixDocumentaries. Some have worked well. Some have created new challenges. Some may not have been the right fit.

Rather than simply announcing another round of changes, we'd like to hear from the people who use the subreddit every day.

Our goal isn't to create more rules. It's to build a community that's enjoyable to read, encourages thoughtful discussion, and remains sustainable to moderate over the long term.

Below are a few topics we'd especially like your thoughts on.

Megathreads vs. Individual Posts

One of the hardest balancing acts has been deciding when similar discussions should share a megathread and when they deserve separate posts.

We've heard from users who felt their discussion was different enough to justify its own thread. We've also seen reports on posts that the moderation team intentionally approved because they predated a megathread, were properly flaired, or otherwise fit within our current approach.

We're interested in your thoughts.

  • Should we allow duplicate discussions more freely?
  • Should recurring topics stay in long-running megathreads or be refreshed more often?
  • Is there a better balance that we're missing?

News Posts

Documentary news is an important part of the subreddit, but we've also seen periods where the front page becomes almost entirely links to news articles.

To encourage discussion, we've removed crossposting, banned several content-farming accounts, and introduced a minimum-length requirement for discussion posts. Those changes have noticeably reduced low-effort submissions, but they've also generated plenty of debate.

We're curious what you think.

  • Is the current balance about right?
  • Should news posts have higher or lower expectations?
  • If multiple people post the same news, should the first post remain, or should the post generating the best discussion take priority?

Recommendations

We've continued enforcing our longstanding policy against creators promoting their own channels or content here.

That said, we've wondered if there might be room for a community recommendation thread instead.

For example, a recurring thread where members recommend documentary podcasts, YouTube channels, newsletters, or similar resources—provided they explain what makes the recommendation worthwhile rather than simply dropping a link.

Would that be useful?

If so, what restrictions or expectations would you want to see?

Civility

One area where we don't expect significant changes is civility.

Documentaries often involve controversial topics, public figures, politics, and emotionally charged events. Strong disagreement is expected. Personal attacks are not.

That applies equally to documentary subjects and to other members of this community.

We will continue removing:

  • Harassment and bullying.
  • Personal attacks
  • Slurs and hateful language.
  • Political name-calling that replaces discussion.
  • Comments advocating or joking about violence.

These aren't simply subreddit preferences—they're required by Reddit's Content Policy. If moderators fail to enforce those standards consistently, Reddit administrators will.

We want this to remain a place where people feel comfortable participating, even when they strongly disagree with one another.

We'd Like to Hear From You

What do you think is working well?

What isn't?

What changes would you like to see?

If you've disagreed with any of the recent trial changes, we'd especially like to know why. Understanding the reasoning behind your feedback is far more helpful than simply knowing whether you liked or disliked a particular decision.

We'll be reading every comment, discussing the feedback as a team, and using it to help decide where the subreddit goes next.

We're Looking for New Moderators

We're Looking for New Moderators

Over the past few weeks we've seen several incidents of uncivil behavior that have led to posters being bullied or harassed. While in general this is an awesome community this ongoing issue around certain topics has made it clear that it's time to expand our moderation team.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a history of positive, constructive participation in r/Dogbreeding.
  • Is willing to moderate consistently with our existing rules and moderation philosophy.
  • Can check the subreddit regularly and respond to issues before they escalate.
  • Is able to remain fair, respectful, and professional when handling disagreements.

This isn't an especially high-volume subreddit, but many members share personal information about themselves, their dogs, and their breeding programs. Because of that, timely moderation is important to help keep the community welcoming and safe.

If you're interested, please answer the questionnaire below and send your responses to us via Modmail. The current moderation team will review all applications together and hopes to make a decision by the beginning of next month.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this community a valuable resource for responsible dog breeding.

ISO Mobile style decorating game without microtransactions on Steam

My mother is elderly and as it turns out has continued to find ways to purchase currency for June's Journey despite multiple promises that she no longer would. Taking it from her is not an option legally or ethically. What I can do is not repair her Chromebook and finally update her to a laptop and thus family access to my Steam account. Here is my problem. She does not like figuring out games. Stardew Valley made her feel lost and pressed about getting things done. Same thing with Sandrock and similar (she doesn't like questing). Powerwash simulator and House flipper were to gross and difficult.

Her favorite thing in Junes journey is decorating her island. She doesn't want it to be very specific. She just likes arranging things the way she wants to. I can not for the life of me find a Steam game with that style of broad decorating. I got some great suggestions last time for games I ended up really liking, Tiny Glade etc but she found it to complicated.

MINISFORUM G1 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX hard drive question

Hello friends. I am in the middle of exams and my brain is basically milk soaked cereal so I'm really sorry if these are obvious questions. I just ordered the MINISFORUM G1 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX via Amazon as a much needed upgrade to my desktop with bonus portability during required weeks long trips. I like my desk setup so it made more sense then a laptop. It arrives in about ten days very excited.

  1. I see it has another M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 slot. It comes with a 1tb in place. I see a system limit of 2tb. However it is unclear if that is system total or per slot. IE can I have 2/3/4 or only 1/2

  2. Is there a suggested case for this device? It won't be moved often but one of the major reasons I got it was for those long trips.

Thanks for any guidance.

The worst customer service experience I've ever had.

I don't need to print in color very often, so, against my better judgment, I picked up a Deskjet 2827e when I decided to go back to school. It's been a problem ever since, frequently printing only a few pages and then simply not responding at all. It also intermittently decided to eat print jobs partway through. I've been in contact with HP about every six weeks since August. They have remoted in and forced it to work, only for the issues to recur. Today, it was literally eating my homework. I have an exam tomorrow. I begged for a replacement under warranty as again its always been a problem.. The tech insisted that since it copied twice and it was only a little damaged once that meant it was software or connection and he could not replace my printer. He insisted on remoting in which I allowed because I wanted it recorded for the next time it failed. While in system he did the expected things but also turned on copilot and repaired it with all of its log my information settings at which point I tried to take back control to ask what he was doing. During that he forced a repair of Office 365 which caused it to shut down the open windows I had with school work and then hit the clear all data option on it in addition. I was very upset at this point. He had me run another test print which worked and a second which was ripped apart again partway through. He STILL said we had to keep troubleshooting because it wasn't clear what the problem was. I was told he was trying to help me and to run the reset which blackscreened my PC.

If I had time I'd be extremely angry but this literally meant no lunch or study time before an exam tomorrow and I'm going to have to go pay Staples to get my notes printed for class tonight. Thanks HP.

How does SSDI/recertification actually work when living overseas?

I am disabled. 42f. I am also a student, but for several years my only income has been SSDI. My insurance at this time is dual-enrollment Medicare/Medicaid. My fiancé is German, and after I graduate, I would like to move to Germany full-time. I am aware that I can now ultimately maintain my American citizenship while also holding German citizenship, so that took down one original concern. I know we will need to find and pay for insurance in Germany for me, as my Medicare/Medicaid obviously won't work, but the information I have been able to get about my disability payments has been very lacking. Social Security told me I would sign up for direct deposit in Germany, and it would transfer. A few moments later, they said it wouldn't and that I would have to pick an American bank that also operated in Germany. Everyone has told me that I will need to come back to recertify, but I've heard every year, year and a half, and two years from workers and that they will send me notice the month before which sounds like a really expensive and stressful flight to plan. I have also been told that not using medicare/medicaid will make it much more likely that I am rejected from the program and that they won't accept records from elsewhere.

I am really looking for actual experience from others who have dealt with these programs. I've found several sources for what SHOULD happen but they don't always agree.

I was out of town for three weeks and had someone fish sitting. I returned the 1st. The tank was full of algae when I came back because of the lights being taken off their timer and left on. Alexander Stevenson looked fine. The next day I mechanically cleaned and did a fifty percent water change. About five or six days later, I gravel vacced. Moved some plants around, did about a thirty percent water change in the course of cleaning and changed out the filter. All visably ok. Three days ago, a couple days later he was hiding in the plants and didn't seem interested in food. Yesterday was a skip day for feeding him but I noticed he was laying on his leaf. Today his face is brown and hes missing half his tail. I don't know if this is fin rot that I didn't notice or if got injured and something is just wrong. I'm going to obviously move him to a hospital tank; he's currently in a ten-gallon tall with plants that's had recurring algae issues. I know its less then perfect but its what I was given. The water tests out 0 nirtrites, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, pH 7. Temp 78. Tank is about eight months old and cycled. While it's possible he was overfed during trip the sitter has never done it before.

Trial Run: Required Post Flairs & Updated Discussion Standards

Trial Run: Required Post Flairs & Updated Discussion Standards

Hi everyone,

We're testing a new system to better organize the subreddit and reduce repetitive flood posting during major documentary releases.

Starting now, all posts must use one of the following flairs:

  • Current Hot Topic
  • Discussion
  • Recommendation Request
  • Looking for a Documentary
  • Review
  • Approved by Mods

Current Hot Topic

The Current Hot Topic flair is for documentaries or docuseries that are generating unusually high levels of discussion on the subreddit.

At this time, all posts about The Crash MUST use the Current Hot Topic flair.

The purpose of this flair is to allow discussion to continue while making it easier for users to find, follow, or avoid heavily discussed topics.

Tired of Seeing The Crash?

If you're tired of seeing posts about The Crash, you can click or tap the Current Hot Topic flair to browse those posts separately. Many Reddit apps and browser tools also allow users to mute or filter specific flairs.

One of the goals of this system is to give users more control over the content they see.

Discussion Standards

All existing subreddit rules still apply.

In addition, Discussion and Current Hot Topic posts must contain meaningful discussion content.

Examples of content that may be removed include:

  • Memes
  • One-sentence reaction posts
  • Repetitive observations already dominating the subreddit
  • Posts that simply repeat reactions already being expressed throughout the community
  • Low-effort outrage posts

Examples of content that are welcome include:

  • Analysis
  • Reviews
  • Thoughtful commentary
  • New information
  • Questions that encourage discussion
  • Detailed observations and perspectives

Using the Current Hot Topic flair does not guarantee a post will be approved. Posts must still meet the subreddit’s discussion standards.

Megathreads Still Exist

The Current Hot Topic flair does not replace megathreads.

Short reactions, quick observations, live-watch commentary, and general discussion should continue to go in the megathread.

Examples include:

  • "I can't believe they did that."
  • "Her parents are awful."
  • "This made me so angry."
  • Quick thoughts while watching.

If your post does not substantially add to the discussion, it may be redirected to the megathread or removed.

Approved by Mods

The Approved by Mods flair is reserved for content that was reviewed and approved by the moderation team through Modmail prior to posting.

This Is a Trial Run

This system is not set in stone.

We'll see how it works, gather feedback, and make adjustments as needed.

Constructive feedback is welcome while we test things out.

u/FaelingJester — 3 months ago

Seriously y'all read the rules. Use the Megathreads

Today alone, before lunch, I have removed twenty-odd posts about The Crash. We are getting so much abusive modmail from people upset that we aren't pulling them fast enough, or that their content is being pulled while others' is seemingly allowed which it isn't it was threads that existed before the Megathread went up.

Please read the rules. Please report people who are breaking the rules and most of all please stop sending hate messages to your all-volunteer mod team because clearly listed rules aren't being followed.

Whale Sanctuary Project Response

With the news that the Marineland Orca will be sent to Spain rather then Canada after over a year of waiting the Whale Santuary Project has issued a formal response. https://whalesanctuaryproject.org/whale-sanctuary-project-responds-to-french-decision-to-transfer-wikie-and-keijo-to-loro-parque-zoo/?fbclid=IwY2xjawR1jGVleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETBHNWZ4VEZTYXY3N1ZId1Zuc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHnVbJClACuMyeTBLdrpYybwW7QgzHuVO15Bvg5hqhkMD6H60nfszRYoNCPTa_aem_GOzVXcIRbbBAcHqikPc66Q To the surprise of very few of us they are highly upset but even now have provided zero project updates proving they were ever capable of opening much less opening by this Summer as they originally promised.

Hello friends. I am taking a trip from Richmond to Baltimore to catch a flight the next day out of country for a few weeks. Apparently, it's the Carolinian instead of my familiar Northeast Regional. I usually book business class on NER if I have multiple bags and my rollator as I have found they are less likely to load me into a car already full where I can't safely find my seat. I have booked extra assistance getting on but I know it can be more questionable getting off and in this case I don't have my rollator but my cane but I do need help with bags and getting off safely and quickly.

TLDR I usually book business on NER to be safe. This time I apparently didn't and its the Carolinian. I have a cane and two bags. Should I upgrade to business (currently about $40 for a good bid) to be safe about being able to get a seat and help?

I booked tickets to Germany next month. When I booked my Global Entry status was still in progress. I now have it and my flight is in two weeks. I was told to make sure it gets added to my boarding pass/ticket. I don't see a way to do it. Elizabot says to do it from manage booking. When I try to manage my booking they tell me I can't do it online and need customer support. I called customer support and they said I needed to add it at booking or on the website but I can't figure out where. (although they did help me add student status which won't help this flight but is nice) I'm just lost at what I'm supposed to be doing here.

Someone posted this morning about not getting a refund on a tattoo deposit. Another commentator, not OP looked at the screen shots of the refund policy OP had posted. Determined what shop it was and posted this comment.

OP too classy to, but I'm not.
OP posted a screen shot from their website.
Also mentioned what country they are from.

A ten second Google later...
Boom.
We have: Redacted
Redacted Link
*for your viewing pleasure only of course. please do not contact the shop or leave reviews or do anything else reddity. merely an fyi so you know which shop to avoid.

We removed it this morning as soon as we saw it and ultimately purged the thread. However, looking at reviews for the business, it is clear they had a fantastic reputation until this morning when the post was made they now have a page of abusive one star reviews and have taken down their social media to avoid more. We banned the user although they claim that was overeach since it was public information and they told people just to warn them. Is there anything else we can/should do?

Update: It was even the wrong shop I feel so bad for them
