Kristoff's Background

We all know the classic 'prince love interest trope'. And it is honestly? Getting overdone. Kristoff is currently the only Disney Princess Love Interest who is not a royal.

'Oh OP, what about Eugene? He's not a royal, he's a thief'

Wrong. Eugene was great in Tangled, and his character development was great in the animated show. But, just like the rest of them, is a royal. And I don't mean from marrying Rapunzel. His biological father was the King of a Kingdom that was destroyed and he was made to protect. Making Eugene actually Prince Horace.

And don't get me wrong, I'm glad we got to see where Eugene came from. But I don't doubt that Kristoff's background will also be explored in the next two stories. And I swear to freaking god that if they make him a Prince I will geniunely freak out. Because half the point of these princess movies like Cinderella is that anyone can be a royal. Unlikely relationships is the trope of most of these. And if they do to Kristoff what they did to Eugene, it will annoy me so badly. Like if its something like 'Kristoff is actually the 14th Prince of the Southern Isles who ran away' that is gonna pmo

Just like, be more original? Like Eugene's story could have easily been the son of a guard who stayed behind to guard the King and stufd, sending his son away. That would've been cool and paralleled with Cassandra again. Making love interests with unknown backstories just royalty feels lazy

(No hate to Tangled the Series, I love it and Eugene's story so much, I just don't want every single male love interest to become just another generic royal)

Edit: okay I forgot about Aladdin and....the two other guys mentioned who I haven't watched the movies of. But my point still stands that making him a Royal is lazy writing. Also, I know people haven't watched the Tangled series, which is why I explained a little about what they did with Eugene

Controversial Text Recommendations

Hi there! So my class is doing an internal called Critics where we have to write an essay on a text (book, film, or series) that has divided critical opinions. I will formulate a hypothesis, find two critics with different opinions, and write a report discussing the hypothesis and each opinion. For Example: 'Titanic is a misogynistic film because of Rose's vulnerability' (not my e.g.)

When I say 'divided critical opinions' because most of the above is directly ripped from the report description, I mean it is a controversy that has two sides, and I will be discussing the presentation of the issue, not the actual issue (e.g. how racism in the text is portrayed NOT about racism in general)

Any suggestions on texts and the critical opinions would be so great. I will likely not reply until tomorrow as it is 11pm where I am and I need to go to sleep. Thank you lovelies!

Fanfic Recs

I would love some new longfic recommendations. Not AUs but the actual miraculous plot. Okay with crossovers depending on the fandom. I especially love fics that challenge things I didn't know I need challenged - like in Crimson and Noire by 11JJ11, which addresses the aftermath of akumatized victims and public treatment of them, or Cat's Cradle by Darthaster12, ScalesAustralia22, which addresses the boundaries of the miraculous and Ladynoir dynamics

Love Square Deep Dives/Ranking

Lemme start this off with saying that I don't hate any of these ships, please don't come at me for my opinions.

  1. Adrienette (Season 6)

Girl you can't tell me this isn't an unhealthy relationship. To Adrien, their relationship is great, but no boo boo, it's not. I don't think I even need to explain this one, but I'll give it a try.

Lying, PTSD from Gabe, Lying, Marinette literally willing to do anything for Adrien (boo that aint healthy), LYING

  1. Ladrien.

This whole ship is a glorified celebrity crush. Yes Adrien is Chat and knows personal things about Ladybug, but she doesn't know that! Yes Ladybug is Marinette and knows Adrien personally, but he doesn't know that! It's just them putting each other on pedestals they'll never be able to live up to.

  1. Adrienette

Again, this whole thing for four seasons was just Marinette putting Adrien on a pedestal and everyone enabling her unhealthy obsession with him. Not to mention the literal international stalking.

  1. Ladynoir

Let's get into the problematic stuff first, starting with Chat Noir. This is a guy who is used to his boundaries being crossed, and people throwing themselves at him (Chloe) whether he wants it or not. He has no bodily autonomy with his dad, who seems to only encourage the people who do that with him. He has learned that when you have a crush on someone, you throw yourself at them and push past their boundaries whether they want it or not (Chloe and Lila). Not to mention this guy is severely homeschooled and would've expected life to be like the movies and whatever Chloe told him. The best example I can think of right now is James and Lily from Harry Potter. James pushes her and is a dick about it for 6 years, flirting and trying to get with her despite Lily saying no, and he eventually gets the girl. So Adrien learns from that sort of example, that being pushy will mean they eventually give in. I don't mean to be undermining or defend Adrien, I know that it was not okay to be constantly doing it. This isn't an excuse, it's an explanation as to why he was doing that. That's why I'm really glad that Ladynoir wasn't the first couple to become canon out of the love square, because that pushes this same idea of 'push and they'll cave eventually'.

And now it's Ladybug's turn. And I do believe that this is partly Whiny Chicken Legs' fault, because he gave Ladybug favouritism, and barely interacted with Chat, meaning he was less prepared and aware, and less involved. If he'd been more involved, he would've been included more and Ladybug wouldn't've had to bear the brunt of the responsibility. But since Chat never even learnt where Whiny Chicken Legs lived, he could never go choose his own miraculous holder or anything, and it was harder for him to be included. And since Whiny Chicken Legs encouraged excluding Chat so much, Ladybug followed his example and didn't tell Chat anything.

But that's the problematic stuff out of the way. Now let's get into the fluffy cute stuff. This is still healthy because they can be honest with each other. A big part of relationships is honesty and being open, and that is something that Ladynoir can do. Ladybug is always under tremendous pressure, and she is constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown. Chat Noir is the only person who could really be there for her, and they support each other so well. They can be honest with each other anonymously.

  1. Marichat

And here we have reached the least toxic!!! Yay! Celebratory ice cream (screw you andre we aint buying from you) 🍦

Why is this the least toxic? Because these are their true authentic personalities, and they don't have to put up an act. Around Adrien, Marinette is always stuttering, and never able to talk to him. She puts him up on a pedestal and can't see him a person rather than an idea. But around Chat she is actually herself, and she can speak normally.

The same is true for Chat! He has such pressures to be the perfect public image in his home life, that Chat is his true personality. He gets to experience free will and can do anything he wants without his father's judgement. And unlike with Ladybug, he's not obsessing over her.

So yes, that is why Marichat is PEAK - True Authentic Selves, No Putting the Other on a Pedestal, Person ≠ Idea

Sophie's Parent - Theory!

Okay, for the sake of this we're going to assume elf gender is determined the same way as human gender. For human gender, females have two X chromosomes (XX) and males have one X and one Y chromosome (XY). They each pass one onto their children, so males determine the sex.

But what if the Black Swan didn't want a boy. I know elf boys act a LOT different to human boys, but the Moonlark would be growing up with humans and would turn out more like human boy/girls. Human boys are considered to be, stereotypically, more reckless, thoughtless, and immature than girls.

So what if the Black Swan 100% wanted a girl. and how do they guarantee the gender? Two female elves. Oralie and another female elf donate their dna, meaning that the Moonlark would be guaranteed to be a female.

So my theory is that Sophie is a the first biological daughter of two women. WLW representation for the win

Jolie Ruewen is Alive

I've had this theory for several years now. Girl was a conjurer and could summon any object to her if she knew its location. Fire is a light source. Snaps her fingers for a leaping crystal and boom, she's gone.

Where is she though? Forbidden Cities. She wouldn't risk being around the elves bc of the Neverseen, and she showed empathy for humans.

So theres my theory. Fingers crossed
