Why didn't Wheeling, WV become a more prominent US city?

I feel like Wheeling West Virginia could have had a lot of potential. It sits right on the Ohio River, was a major transportation and industrial center, and was the first capital of West Virginia. Apparently it was also discussed as being the US capital in the early 1800s.

Its location seems pretty ideal. Between Pittsburgh and Columbus, not far from Cleveland, and sits directly along what became I-70. With the river, railroads, industry, and proximity to several major cities, it feels like Wheeling had the ingredients to become a much bigger regional city.

Instead, it peaked at around 60,000 people and has been shrinking ever since.

Does Cleveland have a bright future?

For work related reasons, I have the opportunity to move to Cleveland (I’m currently in Baltimore).

I like Baltimore a lot but Cleveland seems to have a much lower cost of living and real estate that is actually affordable.

Other than that though, what’s the general consensus around Cleveland? Positive, negative, getting better, getting worse?

Which colleges have overcome negative reputations?

Which colleges/universities previously had a negative reputation but are now looked at positive overall? Any that you can see shifting in the future?

"Rach S" - Youtube Vlogger who documented her jaw surgery process. Developed depression from the results and completely stopped updates 5 years ago

This one really sticks with me and I feel super bad for the girl. She was vlogging her entire process of getting a double jaw surgery to correct an underbite. The surgery was kinda botched and the end result was a misalignment of her mouth and nose with the rest of her face.

She documented her countless consultations/meetings with both the surgeon as well as orthodontists to help her identify the issue and seek a solution. It really seemed like the doctors were all gaslighting her and making it seem like she was crazy, even though there was clearly asymmetry issues going on with her face.

Her videos are really heartbreaking to watch because you can tell she's battling severe insecurity issues along with depression for several months after the surgery.

Her last video was in 2021, about a year after the surgery. She talks about how she's still super depressed from it and never leaves her house without a mask on and doesn't let anyone see her smile. Again, it's really sad.

Since then, she has not posted a single update. No new video, no comment, no nothing.

There's some dark speculation in the comments about what happened to her, but who knows what is true or not.

EDIT: Forgot to include the link to her channel - https://www.youtube.com/@rachs9326/videos

Can someone explain this to me?

What are all these types of reactions to Jon Rothstein supposed to mean? I feel very out of the loop.

What are some of the best mid-majors at the current moment?

I know it’s still the offseason but which mid majors are projected to be competitive and maybe a sub 12 seed if they make the tournament?

Anyone else remember the weird bonus content on the “TV The Movie” DVD?

I had the TV The Movie DVD back in the day, and I very clearly remember in the special features/bonus section of the DVD, there were 3 or 4 episodes of a series called Roommates (at least I think that's what it was called).

They were like 15 minutes each and starred Preston Lacy, Sam Macaroni, and another guy who all lived together. What always stuck with me was how unexpectedly dark the episodes were. They had some comedy mixed in, but they were also really creepy and unsettling.

The two episodes I remember most are one where Preston Lacy kills his roommates and cooks/eats them, and another where one of the roommates brings a friend home who turns out to be a complete psychopath. I want to say that episode even involved one of the roommates being sexually assaulted.

I've tried searching online, but I can't find these episodes anywhere. It almost seems like they were never uploaded and only exist as bonus features on the DVD.

Does anyone else remember these?

What is Stephanie Hodge up to these days?

Is she fully private? It’s hard to find anything about her. Most interviews and appearances are about 2 decades old at this point

Considering she was a model/actress I’m just surprised that she seemingly went off the grid

What is your holy grail of Jackass lost media?

Mine has got to be the 2002 Town Hall special where Dave England did a front flip into a woman, which resulted in her suing MTV

I know there’s lots of choices though so let me hear yours!

[Fully lost] 2003 short film "Bun-Bun"

I've been trying to find a copy of the 2003 short film Bun-Bun and haven't had any luck. I remember watching it on TV as a kid around the time it came out, and my siblings all remember it too. We've tried to find a way to watch it again and it's nowhere to be found.

I can't find any way to actually watch the film. There's no uploads online, streaming options, physical copies for sale, or archived versions available anywhere. Here's the IMDB link for the film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343506/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
It even had a young Kathryn Newton in it, who would since then have a very successful acting career

I've considered messaging the writer/director about it, but i'm not sure how to get in contact. All i have is a name. No pictures, no social media, nothing.

It's safe to say this is fully lost.

Are you guys excited about the A's moving to Las Vegas?

I'm curious what the local sentiment is

Are you actually excited about getting the A's? Do you plan on becoming a fan, attending games, and supporting the team, or are most people pretty indifferent about the move?

Just wondering how Vegas locals really feel about it

The Bobby Joe Blythe Dojo Incident Is One Mystery I Can't Stop Thinking About

I don't know why, but the Bobby Joe Blythe dojo incident is one of those cases that has always stuck with me.

For anyone unfamiliar, in 1984 a man walked into a karate dojo in Dumfries, Virginia claiming that Jesus had taught him martial arts. What followed was captured on video: the man was brutally beaten by members of the dojo, stomped while on the ground, left bleeding and unconscious, and then dragged out the back door. The victim was never publicly identified, and to this day people still refer to him as "Kung Fu Guy."

The video resurfaced online in 2009 and caused a huge stir. There were investigations, news articles, martial arts forums trying to identify the victim, and countless debates over whether he survived. Police later stated they believed the victim survived and had been spoken to after the incident, but no definitive public identification was ever made.

What has always fascinated me is how the story seemed to just... disappear.

Back in 2009, there were entire websites dedicated to identifying the victim. People were analyzing the footage frame by frame. Some were convinced it was an unsolved homicide, while others believed the victim survived but was never located publicly.

Yet here we are nearly 20 years later, and there seems to be virtually no new information.

No confirmed identity.
No public statement from the victim.
No family members coming forward.
No documentary.
No major update.

In an era where decades-old mysteries are being solved through DNA and internet sleuthing, it's amazing that a case involving an actual video recording, known participants, a known location, and a specific date has produced so few answers.

Maybe there are answers out there that I've missed. Maybe the victim was identified privately and wanted nothing to do with the attention. Maybe the police really did verify that he survived and that was the end of it.

But every few years I find myself going back down the rabbit hole and wondering the same thing:

Who was that man, what ultimately happened to him, and how has there been essentially no meaningful update in all these years?

Is the restraining order also why Coffeezilla’s video hasn’t come out?

Seems super strange that the coffeezilla video STILL hasn’t come out. Is it safe to assume it’s due to the judge order that also is preventing Pt. 3 from being released?

Why do the dates on some of Ben’s footage show it’s from several years ago?

Obviously I know this stuff all started within the last 4-5 months, but why does some of his footage, specifically from the hidden camera, show years of like 2023, 2021, etc?

I feel like it could potentially be misleading for some viewers. Has he ever acknowledged that?

Never forget: Ben told Ammon at the very beginning it would be better for him to take the “easy way” and just give the legos back. He tried to help. Instead, Ammon doubled down. Now the public hates him and the world sees what a corrupt, evil company Bricks & Minifigs is. Ammon should have listened

Stupid Ammon McNeff.
