Uber gives money to CEOs when they screw us legally

I just watched a More Perfect Union video that this sub won't let me share the link to, but it just dropped two hours ago- and everyone who takes uber should watch it. Essentially, Uber is taking more money from drivers and is working to pass laws to avoid accountability for accident and sexual assault lawsuits, and when they passed a law in the middle of the night in California, they gave the money to their higher ups.

Recipes help

I want to try being vegan again except this time I don't want to mainly eat mock meats and gen tso tofu. Does anyone know a good starter book or recipe guide for vegan foods that are good to make even on busy work days that arent boring or lacking nutrition? Thanks!

Why does Mark Zuckerberg hate his fellow man so much?

He started off as a sexist by creating an app that rates if women on campus are "hot" or "not," and now of course he is making a hellscape for women with meta glasses, which already have created a cottage industry of people removing the led light to indicate people are recording.

He steals ancestral land from Hawaii.

He doesn't care about anyone's privacy or data privacy.

He's working with trump to destroy democracy.

His company does nothing to help people whose accounts have been erroneously deleted (even when using them for business).

He's totally comfortable using your intimate moments to train AI, regardless of whether your nude body (pooping, or even having sex) is viewed by one of his employees.

He makes false claims about democratizing AI when it's an outright lie.

In May meta laid off 10% of it's employees.

He has insufferable personal flaws like forcing his employees to lose to him at board games.

His company is making data centers which fell forests and glug water at an alarming rate.

I could go on..

911 in Atlanta answered by AI bots now

I just saw a video where 911 calls in Atlanta are being answered by AI now. Is there protesting happening over this?

I've tried to contact Uber customer service and gotten a bot, and it was awful.. just took me around in circles, couldn't understand me.

How is Atlanta reacting to this?

How detrimental are daily household goods?

I always wonder about household goods.

PFAS on my toothbrush bristles, dental floss.

Petroleum products in my lipsticks.

Microplastics from packaging in the food, pesticide residue on the food.

Like what even adhesives are on produce stickers which I then inevitably eat some of?

How harmful to waterways is my detergent, or dish soap to waterways?

Isn't there a shoe in the USA anymore that can biodegrade but still function as a shoe?

How harmful is eating hot carryout out of black plastic containers?

Is continually dyeing my hair black going to give me cancer?

Is using nail polish weekly ok?

How, as a chemist, do you navigate the nightmarish landscape of household products that are really not that regulated? I just want to not get sick or damage the planet horribly.

Nonprofit glasses

We're running out of cups at home and I'm wondering if anyone knows any local nonprofits who have glasses as merch? Preferably wildlife, animal or conservation nonprofits if possible. Thanks!

Memories

What's a special place to you in Gainesville that's been smashed by developer bulldozers and covered with something cheaply made and horrendous? Or a place that has been completely de-treed that was once a wildlife oasis. Tell us why that place was special to you.

False seller listings and bad customer support

All the ice cream places in our area suck so I did a bunch of research on a home machine and wound up finding this one. But I shouldn't have bought it at walmart!

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamilton-Beach-4-Quart-Capacity-Ice-Cream-Maker/16629425

Mere hours after I purchased it, it featured a price drop of $18.02 which is pretty substantial! So, I reached out to walmarts customer service chat.. and after being trapped with the ai bot I finally got through to a person, or so they say (because it still seems like a bot), and the representative told me to reach out to the seller, Anyforth.

Who the fuck is Anyforth?? You can see clearly by clicking on the listing that the seller is listed as HamiltonBeach. When I continued to ask walmart's representative who anyforth was, they just kept replying with "the seller."

This makes me really uncomfortable because this item is for food we're going to eat, and I don't like the idea of some unknown distributor handling the item, especially when it's advertised as being sold by a completely different company.

I hear back from anyforth, and they tell me only walmart can issue the partial refund for the price reduction.

I am back talking with walmart online via chat about the partial refund.. and the agent is saying they can't do it. When I say can you at least tell me why it's listed as a different seller, she says:

"Laura it might be a error from seller or they have a different account for listing and delivery  i  also did not  understand why this happens as this is something i haven’t seen before."

Am I in hell? It feels like I'm in hell. How is it walmart can legally get away with selling items intended for food from sellers that are incorrectly listed?

Have you had a Terminator rewatch lately or any other prescient films?

I just re-watched Terminator for the first time in like 20 years. It hits different this time.

6th st and university construction

Be careful at the intersection of 6th st and University! 6th is closed just between university and 2nd ave, and especially if you're a pedestrian coming from karma cream across the road, I almost got run over because *classic* drivers don't understand that pedestrians are allowed to cross when the light is green, also. Drivers are going left when they're not supposed to go left, too. It's a real shit show! And in the rain. Just be really careful if you're on foot because these drivers don't understand laws regarding pedestrians and they're driving like entitled psychos there.

Judgment for Cat Expenses

I have six cats but don't own a home, I rent. I spend about $500 a month on my cats including food, litter, and flea medications. Everyone gives me a lot of judgment for not owning a home and "hemorrhaging money" because I have multiple pets. Does anyone else encounter this? Also in the recent past my cat had cancer for two years, and I paid for her treatment and did everything I could for her, and then again I got a lot of judgment due to finances. I'm mostly here to say I can't believe how much judgment I get for loving and trying to help cats, and it's really demoralizing when I think about how little empathy and understanding people seem to have.

Renters' rights

What can renters in Gainesville to do protect themselves from prices going even higher? Rent prices since 2017 have gone up like $400 a month here and with no improvement on conditions or amenities. I see in Florida even if we form a renter's union, we can't collectively bargain with landlords legally for some reason, and ron desantis blocked regional areas from being able to protect renters through laws. So then, what are other options? I've tried contacting Alachua County Labor Coalition but they don't really respond.
