2 strange wild plants - ID request?

In SW Iowa, zone 5b. I have let these two plants develop untouched in my garden all season long for fear of uprooting a native plant. Can anyone help me to identify these two plants? The tall, jagged leafed plant is swarming with carpenter ants right now.

Iris bulb rescue? Or am I too late?

I noticed a strange smell in a corner of the garden and found the culprit. A sick and rotting? iris. My first year planting any, this one is one of 4. The other 3 have no issues. This one is the one I was most looking forward to having, gnu blues. The foliage is all spongy, smelly and fell clean off from rotting. The bulb itself, I uprooted and see a lot of little bugs crawling all over it. Is it too late to save her? Or is there something I can do to ressucitate the poor plant? I really appreciate the help.

Seeking to understand recent in dream spirit encounters

Hello! I have had two dreams in the past week that made enough of an impression on me that I thought I would share them here for hope of coming to a clearer sense of understanding.

I dreamt that I was working in my garden, as I almost always do when time allows for it, and that as I worked on my planting, this animal approached me calmly, deliberately, watching me as I worked from several feet away. So close that I was able to make eye contact with these lighter colored almost pink eyes, and I felt this animal soul was watching over what I was doing with such intensity of awareness and knew my intent fully. I only met his gaze briefly before looking back to the task at hand. He was unusual in appearance, a large, silvertoned hare, very calm and assertive. He continued to watch me in my work, and I felt very humbled by his presence.

For a bit of context, I have been gardening for the past 3 years and am now experiencing a budding interest in working with herbs and plant medicines. I have been planting new herbs just this year ....wild native roses, prairie sage, motherwort, valerian, milkweed, lemonbalm, etc, all medicinals that I hooe to develop relationships with in working with the earth.

Approximately a week ago, I had another powerful dream that took place within the garden also. But in this dream, I was standing in my kitchen window while observing a powerful scene in the backdrop of my garden through the camera lens on my phone. My naked eyes could not perceive the scene without the camera. I was listening to and watching as a line of three dimensional silhouettelike figures all danced side by side and sang in a prayer song, native peoples of the prairie region I reside in, and it was abundantly clear that they were singing and dancing for the land I was working on, praying over it. And the feeling was as if to say, we are here, we were always here, and we will never be gone.

Does anyone know what these dreams could possibly signify? I could feel so much raw emotional power radiating through the figures in these dreams. They felt real, like spirits come to visit me. Thank you for allowing me to share here.

Advice for native wild roses in SW Iowa?

Hi! I am located in southwestern Iowa, zone 5b. In the past 3 months, I have transplanted these roadside ditch rescues in my garden for hope they may survive and become a central focus in the rose garden. I wish I could know what cultivars I have. Is there any way to identify these without having the blooms present? They were all variants of solid dark or lighter pink. Also, is there anything I can be doing to help them through the winters here? I am honestly surprised they've made it thus far and truly hope they return in the spring!

Dream Symbolism of a silver rabbit/hare figure? And native dancers?

Hello! I woke up from a dream that made enough of an impression on me that I thought I would share it with everyone here and see what others thought about it. I am wondering if there is any symbolism associated with the appearance of a silvery/greyish rabbit or hare, large like a hare would be, with eyes that were somehow deeper than just an ordinary rabbit's eyes?

I dreamt that I was working in my garden, as I almost always do when time allows for it, and that as I worked on my planting, this animal approached me calmly, deliberately, watching me as I worked from several feet away. So close that I was able to make eye contact with these lighter colored almost pink eyes, and I felt this animal soul was watching over what I was doing with such intensity of awareness and knew my intent fully. Is my prairie sage ready for harvest? + Medicinal uses?

I am hoping to harvest from my first prairie sage bush in its first season, to craft smudge bundles with and also would love to learn about more ways to utilize the medicines in this plant. Can anyone here share ideas with me on how to work with this plant in a medicinal sense? And how long do I wait before harvesting the plant to ensure maximized potency?

My first Mad Dog Skullcap Tincture!

I am a budding herbalist and particularly interested in working with plants that are able to remedy anxiety and depression in place of cannabis, which cannot be legally grown or purchased where I live. So, today, I have crafted my first mad dog skullcap tincture with 100proof vodka and maybe a half inch of water to top off the jar when I rsn out of alcohol. I have it timed for October 1 to try out.

My questions are, in what way can I best administer this tincture to myself for the maximal effect in seeking relief from anxiety? As a newbie starting out? Are there any other herbs I can be working with that will grow comfortably in zone 5b without being killed off by our Iowa winters?

I also bottled some fresh lemon balm that will be ready on September 15. I am truly hoping for some relief.

Low storage Android alternatives for Youtube and browser?

I am in the process of using Shizuku and Canva to debloat and extend the life of my Android. I am wondering if there are any low storage alternative apps available for any that are listed here? Is there a browser I can use that allows me to be logged in to Youtube without the app and still be able to upload videos? Is Messages something I can replace with a lower storage alternative that still allows group messaging?

Help for a Canta/Shizuku newbie?

I am not a techie in the slightest. It took me several tries before I could successfully get Shizuku to work on my phone. I've posted photos of my Samsung Galaxy A54 5G's storage stats. The apps are eating my phone alive, and I'm hoping to reduce things to barebones. Which apps can I safely remove without harming my phone? Shizuku gives me a lonnnnng list of recommended apps to uninstall, and I am scared to death that if I go ahead and follow through on the suggested app deletions that something terrible will happen and destroy my phone. I've already removed things like Google photos and drive and such. But I do need Maps, and enjoy Youtube/Youtube Music, and use my USAA banking app. Why are the apps taking up so much space on my phone?? Is there something I'm missing?

How to make the most potent vanilla extract using 100proof vodka?

Hi! I'm new to all this and wanting to make a vanilla extract for gifting on Christmas. Am I already too late to get started for this year? I want to make the most flavorfully potent extract possible. What ratio on vanilla:alcohol would be recommended using this package of 50 pods? Is it true that splitting the pods creates a more flavorful extract? How can I repurpose the beans and pods after finishing the extraction process? I have never attempted anything like this before but do have 100proof vodka I can use. It was the highest concentration available to me at the local Hyvee.

UPDATE: I discovered a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey with approximately 6 cups of alcohol left inside, split and infused 50 bean pods, and hope it will be ready in time for Christmas this year!

Drought resistant roses for zone 5b, Iowa?

Roses are my passion, but I am a novice. In light of the continuing drought conditions here in Iowa, I'm trying to look ahead and fill the garden with plants more readily able to withstand longer periods of dry weather. So far, I've been able to include a few native species, but am wondering if anyone can recommend specific breeds for my climate? I am only interested in roses with substantial fragrance.

How to bottle my first motherwort tincture?

I recently visited the store and had a very helpful employee take me to the highest proof vodka available in store, 100proof. I am waiting now for my motherwort plant to start budding so I can bottle the fresh leaves and flowers in tincture form. What ratios on alcohol:plant matter and for how long wpuld be recommended for maximum potency? This tincture will be my first with motherwort and only my second attempt at any herbal tincture (my first having been lemonbalm). The motherwort I am hoping brings relief for severe pms and cramping pain.

First time sage grower-when to harvest??

Hello! I planted two prairie sagebushes early spring for hope of cultivating for medicinal purposes but feel lost on when to harvest and in what ways to employ this plant for my medicinal use. Can anyone here offer ideas for potential medicinal uses as well as how to know when the plant is ready for harvesting? I detect no real obvious scent as of today. Is sage supposed to smell strong before harvesting?

How much will corsican mint spread in one season?

I have just transplanted this corsican mint for hope that it spreads and prevents soil erosion on this patch of ground between my fence and the front sidewalk. Can anyone offer any insight into how long it may take for this mint to begin spreading and how much before winter? This is my first time planting mint in the yard, and supposedly, it is less aggressive than others, but has been planted in an area that is mostly bare due to prolonged soil erosion due to flash flooding.

Can anyone here help?

I am sharing this poem I have written, for hope that it brings healing to my heart and his. Is there anyone here who feels drawn to relay this writing to my love in spirit, John? I am so longing to hear his voice again and would be so grateful to receive any messages he has for me.

Though forever long may be

How I wish

For you

For we

And in song

By breath

Set free

All my days

I live

For thee

Behind eyes

Inside

I see

Love divine

Your heart

For me

In your gaze

I hold

Sweet dreams

Promises

And prayers

To keep

Ever more

I long

In your arms

To be

And so

I wait

In love

For thee

On SAVE...confused on what to do.

I recently received my 90 day notice via Mohela that I need to select a new repayment plan. My loans are all federal and currently sitting just under 20k. I moved in with family back in March of this year to begin aggressively paying down my debts with the intent of paying them off as fast as possible. The loans began at approx 27k at the time of the move.

I want to avoid high interest and keep things as low as possible while I continue to pay off my loans as quickly as possible. I'm aiming to be free of my debt by April 2027. I find the new repayment plans to be very confusing. All I am concerned with is keeping interest at a minimum. Can anyone help me to determine the best course of action in my case? And I really appreciate the help!
