Anyone use the Toppik hair fibers?

I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff. On one hand it works phenomenally in my case. I have excessive thinning on my crown and this stuff makes it look like all is good up there. It’s like black magic, ha. On the other hand, this stuff gets EVERYWHERE. Black looking dust all over my bathroom counter. I would love to hear if anyone has had any success not making a huge mess with this stuff.

Don’t cling.

I am very early in my journey with Buddhism. I recently finished a 1-night a week class (30 weeks) at a monastery and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I had to pick one principle that has had a drastic impact on my life already it’s - not clinging. Not clinging to the past, to the future, to the present, to money, to relationships, to weekends, to people, to pets, to things people say to you, etc etc. It’s such a brilliant teaching on its own. It really allows me to be more in the moment and let everything else go. It often feels like a weight I have been carrying all of my life (50M) has been taken off my shoulders.

First time in Galveston

My family (wife and 2 teenagers) are staying in the midtown area. Where would be the best place for us to go to the beach as far as parking, ease of entry, etc? I know nothing. Any help is appreciated.

The biggest breakthrough in my CPAP journey was….

When I started CPAP about 2 years ago, I started with the Resmed F20 mask. It’s the big one that covers your mouth and nose. I decided on that mask because I “knew” that I breathed through my mouth sometimes at night, so a more minimal mask, like nasal pillows wouldn’t work for me.

On a whim, I thought I should at least try nasal pillows to 100% confirm that they wouldn’t work for me. It turns out that I took to them immediately with no trouble. My mouth stayed shut all night and I was able to enjoy my sleep more. Moving to nasal pillows drastically improved my experience and I have used them ever since (started with p10, moved on to Nova Micro pillows).

The main reason I posted this is because I guarantee someone is reading this that has never tried nasal pillows because they “know” it wouldn’t work for them. I would suggest at least trying them before you count them out. Obviously, they will not work for everyone, but I wouldn’t rule them out if you never have given them a shot. If they don’t work, at least now you know. If they do work, it could make a big difference in your comfort.

If you are happy with whatever mask you’re using, you can obviously disregard all of this. I get that all our faces are different. If you are someone though that is curious about less invasive, nasal pillow masks, I would suggest seeing how you do with it before counting it out.

EDIT: if you do choose to give nasal pillows a shot, you will most likely have some soreness in your nostril area the next morning early on. From my experience and from what I read, this is normal, at least at first. I recommmend using nipple cream to help soothe them. The soreness lasts 1-2 weeks and then your nose toughens up. At this point, I don’t even remember the last time my nose was sore.

F & P Nova Micro Pillows vs Resmed p10

I thought I would share my experience with these two masks for anyone that might be curious.

I used the p10 for 1.5 years and thought for sure it would be my “forever mask”, since I’m a side sleeper. It’s a great mask. Minimal, easy to clean, kept leaks low, no real complaints to be honest. I’m always looking for a better CPAP experience though, so I thought I would give the Nova Micro pillows a chance. I’m glad I did.

Is it better than the p10 in my opinion? Yes. Is it A LOT better than the p10? No, not in my opinion. But…..I do feel like it makes my sleeping experience at least 10-20% more comfortable. My favorite part is I can put more of my face on the pillow. Since it is smaller than the p10, it allows me to tilt my head a bit more into the pillow and feel more of it on my face. May sound like a small thing, but it makes a difference to me in comfort. Also, my leak rate with the NM is very close to zero. This things seals better than any mask I’ve had.

Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps someone. Best of luck on your CPAP journey.

Anyone see Sam’s talk in Dallas (or anywhere else)?

I drove down from OKC to catch Sam in Dallas (a month ago?). It was the first time I had heard him speak in-person. I’ve been a fan of his for close to 20 years. I tend to agree with most of his takes. He gets things wrong at times, I know. He’s human. I thought I would throw this out there to see if any of you went to his talk in Dallas or anywhere else and what you thought? Funny enough, the one thing that stood out to me more than anything? He looked EXHAUSTED. I mean, I get it. He’s given virtually the same talk over and over. That has to get old. He had been in Canada the week before for multiple shows, etc. Almost felt sorry for the guy lol. All in all I enjoyed it though. A question/answer session would’ve been nice, but I left satisfied.

Why do some people obviously speed up when you pull out in front of them, making it look like you pulled out in front of them too late?

I’m talking about the OBVIOUS cases of a driver very far from me and then OBVIOUSLY speeding up after I pull out, not any borderline cases. People do it to me and I see it daily with cars ahead of me. What motivates this?

Are Danes really as happy as the polls I always see that show you as the “happiest” country? American here.

I love so many things about America, but I get exhausted with how much sex and money are focused on and celebrated. Sure, I like both, but my God. Are these 2 things a major focus in Denmark? I heard one time that a Dane is looked at as very successful if he/she is a good person, has a reasonably good job, takes care of their family, etc. Is this true? I hope it is.

CPAP Pressure vs Deep Sleep?

I have been on CPAP for about 2 years and have seen great results. My AHI has went from 66 to 4. In the last 3 months though, I have felt much more sluggish. AHI hasn’t changed though. During the last 3 months, I lost 30 pounds. My weight and my deep sleep are the only things that have changed. I use an Oura ring and before the weight loss, I averaged 25 minutes of deep sleep per night like clockwork. In the last 3 months though, I have averaged only about 3 minutes. I have also noticed a little more bloating in the mornings. So here’s my question:

Is it possible that my pressure needs to come down due to my weight loss? Can time spent in deep sleep be reduced if CPAP pressure is too high?

By the way: I was initially prescribed a flat 14 for pressure. I’m a 50M, 230 lbs. I just signed up with SleepHQ, but I don’t have any data to share yet. Any insights?

To those 50 or over, what does your sleep score average?

I’ve had my Oura ring 3 years and consistently average 73. I’m 50 years old.

‘26 Touring Hybrid Glitch

I’m loving my Civic (2400 miles thus far), but I’m starting to notice a glitch with the infotainment screen that seems to be getting worse. Lately, during maybe 1 out every 3 drives, the screen goes completely black. My podcast/music continues, but I can’t access the screen for anything. It typically works itself out eventually, but still. Two questions:

- Is this happening to anyone else?

- If so, what is the best way you have found to bring the screen back on?

Thoughts on these alternatives to the Resmed p10?

After almost 2 years on CPAP, I’m in a good place with my therapy. Even so, I’m always on the lookout for a better overall experience. The p10 has been great, but I’m curious about two other masks, both from Fisher & Paykel. The Nova Micro and the Solo (pillows version). Anyone have any experience with either mask?

Two things stuck out to me with my ‘26 Hybrid ST on a 4-hour mini-roadtrip

I recently drove from OKC to Dallas in my new Civic.

- Lane Keep/Adaptive Cruise. These features made my trip so much more comfortable, wow. There were several miles on the trip that were safe enough for me to lightly press my leg against the bottom of the steering wheel (to avoid the steer warning) and drive hands and feet free. Obviously, I was fully engaged and paying attention the whole time, and didn’t do it in heavy traffic, but man. Very cool.

- Econ vs Sport. Over my first 2000 miles (90% city/10% hwy), I noticed little to no difference between drive modes in regards to MPG. This roadtrip was different though. On the trip down, I was driving between 70-85mph in Econ mode. I averaged 48mpg. On the way back I drove between 70-85mph in Sport mode and averaged only 36mpg. Anyone else had this experience with higher speeds exposing more mpg differences in different driving modes?

Two questions from a relatively new CPAP user.

I have been on CPAP almost 1.5 years and it’s been amazing for me. I am now trying to fine-tune my therapy. Just for some background, I average around a 4-5 for AHI with a 15-20L/min leak rate.

Here are my questions:

- I wear the Resmed p10 (nasal pillows). Any tips for minimizing leak? Hitting 20L/min often, I am currently at the upper limit for leak rate (for effective therapy).

- I’ve been wanting to try the whole Oscar thing, but it looks intimidating. I’m 50 and feel comfortable with technology, but it still looks scary lol. My question is, with an AHI of 4-5, would using Oscar be worth it for me? Has it helped anyone else here in a similar situation?

I greatly appreciate any insights.

For me it’s parking sensors and walk-away lock (Sport Touring Hybrid). I’m a simple man that came from a 2013 Dodge Dart base trim lol. I use the parking sensors all of the time pulling into our cluttered garage as well as at work where I park in a parking garage and no longer have to guess how far to pull up. The walk-away lock is so convenient. My keys/fob never leave my pocket. It’s the little things!

For me, I think it was a Jetta GLI with the Prius coming in 3rd. I realize the GLI and the Civic Sport Touring (my car) are very different in so many ways, but they are similarly priced sedans. The GLI has more torque and hp, decent fuel economy and looks sharp. I actually never test drove the GLI and I honestly didn’t know it existed until after I purchased my car. No buyers remorse for me though as the Civic has better resale value, reliability, fuel economy, etc. which is all more than enough for me to feel great about my choice. LOVE my car, but I do play “what if?” with the GLI and a little less, with the Prius.
