I made a website to help you save time finding an apartment
tldr: new website http://36flats.de collects real-time apartment listings from 14 sources, including all seven public housing companies; lets you create personalized filters and receive notifications via Telegram.
When I was looking for an apartment in Berlin last year, I noticed how listings for affordable apartments at one of the public housing companies would often disappear within just half an hour or less after going online.
At the time, inberlinwohnen.de (which consolidates listings from all 7 public housing companies) did offer a notification service, but in my experience, their emails often arrived minutes after the listing was already taken down!
Constantly having to refresh multiple pages became frustrating, so I developed a Telegram bot that would send me notifications for new listings matching my criteria. After people here and there signalled interest, I decided to expand upon this project and turn it into a free website that lets everyone set up personalized notifications or just view the available listings on a map.
Every filter you set is automatically stored in the URL, so you can share the link or save it as a bookmark. To receive notifications, simply click on "Benachrichtigungen erhalten" and send your unique code to @b36fbot on Telegram. You can set up as many simultaneous subscriptions as you like, for example to set a different maximum rent depending on the location.
Obviously there are a lot more listings in total on sites like immoscout. The main focus of this project is to offer a convenient overview of the current listings from public housing companies such as degewo and howoge, and to send out notifications as quickly as possible. Hope this will be useful to someone and happy to hear your feedback and any suggestions/feature requests!

Incapable to perform basic vector transformation tasks in Affinity
I successfully used Affinity Designer in the past to design some basic posters, but today I find myself humbled by the most basic vector manipulation tasks.

I want to:
(a) connect the two broken lines (at the top and at the base of the crane). Moving the nodes on top of each other visually worked, but obviously this isn't the ideal solution.. I couldnt get the curves to join properly as one.
(b) remove the 3 pairs of diagonal bars in the crane. Simply removing the nodes in the center that make up the diagonal bars lead to the entire area to be filled in the fillColor, so I think the approach to solve this properly is to remove the superfluous nodes in the middle and change the fill mode but again I failed miserably.
Can someone please point me in the right direction what I have to do? For even a moderately experienced designer, I'm sure this takes just 2 minutes but I feel so lost when trying to merge the nodes properly.

Can't report ATM
Hi,
i played faceit again after a couple days and noticed that I can't report people. Every time I select a reason (Griefing, ghosting, verbal abuse etc), I only get the following message:
> Whoops!
> Unknown error occurred. We're not sure what happened.
Is this happening to anyone else ATM? Commending people still works for me.

To bring or not to bring fleece mid-layer on Camino Portugues this month
I'm soon leaving for a Camino starting in Porto, and with the projected temperatures along the route never dropping below 18°C (65°F) even early in the morning and late in the evening, I'm debating whether or not I should even bring my Patagonia Synchilla Fleece Jacket (~500g). I'll bring an insulated rain jacket and usually don't feel cold wearing just a t-shirt and the jacket at those temperatures.
Am I missing something here? I only have a 32l backpack and if I don't even bring the fleece it's only gonna be filled up like a third of the way lol. Are the weather predictions misleading? Can anyone share their experience bringing just t-shirts and an insulated jacket for their upper body layers?

Ligh/dark mode switch best practices
A user generally has 3 choices when it comes to dark mode: light, dark, or use the OS-wide system preference. On many websites, I see just a single button allowing users to switch between light and dark mode. In many cases, setting the mode to dark or light by clicking the button once takes away the option to use the system default forever. However, a drop down with those 3 options seems a bit clunky for everyone except the more technical users. What are your favourite approaches to solve this problem?

17 years old… am I too old to start a music career?
Being a singer-songwriter has always been an interest since I was 4. Life choices hit… kindergarten, recess, juice boxes, the class hamster dying, etc. Life is mostly pretty good besides the normal stresses those things can bring sometimes. Music has always been in the background. Fast forward to 17 and through a turn of events I meet this somewhat well known musician / producer at the lunch table. He said I should send him some of my music and eventually invited me out to record with him in the band room, he got a famous drummer from 6th period to play on my song, it felt very epic. Fast forward a year and I decided to move my locker out to the C-wing in hopes of pursuing this whole thing. I can't help but think that I'm just kind of old to get started, not too old in general, just for getting started trying to make it as a singer-songwriter…

i've always wondered whether having completely opposite professional interests creates stronger compatibility or if it ends up becoming transactional/too practically grounded. like does one person handling all the finances deepen intimacy, or is it sometimes nicer being with someone who also has no idea what a W-2 is? curious what musicians think genuinely works best for them and why.
