While reading some Ravages of Time I noticed it is mentioned that the man in this image San Chuan is using very long and sharp sword, commonly known as the Qin Jian, a sword associated with the state of Qin and its own style of swordsmanship. What makes it especially interesting is its unusual length and thin, sharp design compared to other swords of the time. It’s also mentioned that this style of sword was lost after Qin Shi Huang sent boats with famous generals looking for some magical herbs and they never ended up returning.

I haven’t read Kingdom in a minute but was curious if this type of sword has appeared in Kingdom if so when, I know Hara is addicted to glaives so I’m not entirely sure if it is in Kingdom.

Sorry for infiltrating the Kingdom subreddit to promote The Ravages of Time (RoT) but I really do believe both the Kingdom and RoT fandoms should be working together to help grow each other as there both of similar nature. 🙏

If you’re unaware of RoT it’s a Chinese Manhua about the late Han dynasty and 3 kingdoms period of China and reinterprets the famous novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms (also this is the period roughly 400 years post Kingdom). RoT while I say it’s nature is like Kingdom that mainly referring to the fact they’re both ancient China war manga but interns of actual content there fairly different. Unlike Kingdom where it focuses on war itself and battlefield tactics, RoT focuses mainly on the scheming, strategies, philosophies and politics that go into these wars/conflicts. But don’t get me wrong you still get to witness amazing test of strength of character defying all odds but that isn’t the focus.

I will say RoT is an extremely difficult comic to read as there are 100s of characters and places to remember as well as the intertwining schemes that last 100s of chapters. But if you stick to it and take your time trying to understand what you’ve read it’ll all payoff.

One of the most asked questions in the RoT fandom is do you need to know the novel it’s based off “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms” to understand RoT and the answer is well it helps and could improve your enjoyment but I don’t believe it’s necessary. I suggest if you don’t know about the novel or story via some other media of it don’t bother reading it just for the sake of reading RoT, like reading a 1500+ page book just to read a comic you’re not sure you’ll like is just ridiculous, people suggest watching recaps of it on YouTube but you just get a basic understanding that in the end all you’ll end up remember is who dies, so overall I just say go blind and if you like RoT read the novel after.

So, if I’ve convinced you to start RoT, I first recommend you join The Ravages of Time reddit and read the pinned post and using that info start your RoT journey. Also best scans available on MangaDex.

I hope this helped and if you have any more questions don’t be afraid to ask. 🙏

It set in 3 kingdoms China basically a mix between kingdom and Logh but even better. Read mangadex.

Also I know it manhua but it’s written in the format of a manga.

Highly recommend ravages of time if you want something that is a mix between logh , kingdom, and usogui. It based on 3 kingdoms China if you know that I recommend it even further 🙏
