Cymbal Rush performed during In Rainbows Tour (Oct 4, 2008, Tokyo)

Notwithstanding the title of the video, I’m not too sure Colin is playing, or is he?

(Very big fan of the song btw)

Is it normal to loot hotel room (and airline) amenities for things you are not using at the time?

I have a dear friend I have known for decades and whenever our group travels, it’s impossible not to notice (well she is pretty vocal and proud about it) her habit of taking everything she can, extra wipes, salt and pepper shakers, mini tabasco, toiletry bags and even silverware on flights and toothbrushes, cotton balls and qtips and anything else from hotel rooms.

She even explicitly tells us how much extra room she left in her bags in anticipation of the bounty she expects from the upcoming trip and later shows off her treasures. She says she uses it all. I am not so sure and always imagine a storage unit somewhere filled with hotel and airline logo stuff collecting dust.

Is this considered stand up, perfectly fine behavior or would you say there is some moral, legal, psychological or other line being crossed? Does it make a difference if she is later using the stuff versus just hoarding? Should anyone even care?

I’ve always just used whatever I need at the time and have never thought to even look at, much less consider taking, the rest.

Student Bodies (1981) over the top immature humor, unforgettable characters like the breather and Malvert (who pees red) and will make you view a flight of stairs differently forever.

I always wonder if any psychological isssues I have or may pop up are due to me watching this and The Party Animal repeatedly with friends in high school. A Ron Jeremy doppelgänger who worked at Blockbuster video recommended both to me in my teens and needless to say I haven’t been the same since.

Anyone else see and remember this film?https://youtu.be/YM-gFnlnO-o?is=FzPN3OwvmYc9TaV2

Are there character traits that are broadly considered American, especially by non-Americans?

I had a friend from another country recently say “that’s very American of you” to me in a situation and it made me think about this question.

Follow Me Around - The Best and incomplete Version

I’ve always loved this full band version the most even if it is interrupted by interviews (the clip is from the documentary Meeting People is Easy / OK Computer tour). Apparently this is being performed during a sound check if I recall correctly?

Thom’s voice is so on, too. And band has a rawness to it. Very (good) 90s rock sounding song.

I wish an audio of the entire thing was made available. Anyone know of
Its existence?

Update: edited to include more clip background detail and fix a minor typo.

What is a movie that you couldn’t stop thinking about for days, maybe even kept you up at night for days, after seeing the first time and how old were you at the time?

  1. Child Me

As a 9 year old, my older cousin babysitting my younger brother and me had us watch The Exorcist and I couldn’t sleep for months. And I think for a year or so I walked around fearing a demon possessing me or my family members at any moment without warning. Alien had similar effects; but I can’t remember exactly how old I was - but remember it was the feature on HBO at the time.

And in the non horror category, Kramer v Kramer made me lose sleep and walk around for months I remember with constant fear of my parents ever splitting and I think since that experience, not take them as unit for granted perhaps.

  1. Adult me

In my early 20s, walking out of Pulp Fiction (Also Mulholland Drive, later No Country For Old Men and even the Matrix) had similar long lasting brain worm effects for days.

Obvious answers like my first one are of course horror films for scaring the $hit out of you for days and literally keeping you up at night especially if you were young, **but I’d especially love to know about films that you just couldn’t get out of your mind for what seemed like a loooong time, perhaps, but not necessarily, because they were challenging and changing you, changing how you view and approach things in the world or within yourself.**

Carlos Kleiber conducting Wagner - When the conductor actually becomes one with the music

This could be in the dictionary under the definition of “flow state” imo…

some of the most astounding and *genuinely and sincerely* (that is,
no apparent performative acting and cheese factor which imo many well known conductors have/had) expressive physicality on many levels from a conductor that I have ever seen. Not to mention the sublime output coming from the orchestra under his obsessively perfectionist direction (putting aside here that a lot of that extraordinary output is the result of Kleiber’s meticulous rehearsal demands and direction long before the performance).

Does anyone have video to share of top tier conductors/orchestras/composers that they feel similarly about? Of stand out moments that always make your jaw drop with awe, dazzle and goosebumps by the conductor’s technique / movement / expression and the resulting orchestra’s output?

Cult classics my millennial children should know as well as me?

Beside the obvious ones like Airplane, Caddyshack, Big Lebowski, what other cult classics would you want your millennial children to know well?

Edit: I will try to respond to as many responses as I can but will say that I nodded my head in agreement reading just about single one I’ve seen so far. So many “musts”
I agree with. Super helpful. THANK YOU! I will say to the folks who suggested the Party, Young Frankenstein and Kung Pao Enter the Fist that they are favorites of ours we have watched many many times and know by heart - great suggestions! Some other favorites we watched through their childhood on repeat were My Cousin Vinny (perfection in every regard imo), Midnight Run (should be far more known and recognized, amazing movie that has it all).

Edit 2: reading through these also reminded me to add to my/the kids’ list the Christopher Guest movies, mob movies (Scarface, goodfellas, godfather, casino etc), some Woody Allen classics, pretty much all cohen brothers and Paul Thomas Anderson movies…

Makes me wonder now if I could have posed a better question: now that my kids aren’t kids and can handle more sophistication, what movies should they just know especially from the 20th century / early 21st?
