Anybody looking for a roommate?

Hi are any of you by chance also looking for a roommate? I am a 31 year old woman with a 10 yr old cat. I've been vegan for over a decade and would like to live with someone else who is vegan or vegetarian. I work a couple different part time remote jobs developing cultural heritage websites and am looking for a place in the valley. I honestly haven't seen other vegans on the roommate websites, so I thought it might be worth asking here.

Language school friendly to vegans and vegetarians

Hi all,

I have been studying Spanish on my own for a second time for around a year. I would say my reading and listening are intermediate to advanced, C1 for reading, B2 for listening, but my speaking and writing are much weaker, maybe A2 or B1. I used to be able to write pretty well in college, but my speaking has always been weak. I got to "advanced" Spanish in college, but I never really learned to communicate.

I live in Southern California, but I am considering traveling and attending an in person language school both because I need a break from my own life and because I think it would force me to practice speaking intensively. However, I am vegan. I've been vegan for over a decade for ethical reasons. I know this is highly unusual in most parts of the world, and I would feel like an immense burden in a homestay because of my dietary restrictions. I would love to find somewhere I could use a kitchen or where they are used to vegans. Mexican Spanish is obviously the predominant form of Spanish in California, but I would be willing to go elsewhere as well if anyone is vegetarian or vegan and has had good experiences. I also do care about the cost. I love learning about history and literature, so I would love a school that incorporated those kinds of topics.

EMDR for TRD

Sorry this is kind of long. I'm 31 years old and currently living with my parents doing a bit of contract work. I am currently diagnosed with major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and inattentive ADHD. I have been on basically every medication, tried ketamine and tms, and been in therapy since I was a teenager. I was also diagnosed with autism, but by a clinician who I don’t completely trust.

I have struggled with chronic depression and anxiety since childhood. My father is emotionally abusive. We have never had a good relationship. I also never fit in with peers and was bullied basically until college. College helped. However, as soon as I graduated things got worse. I struggled to hold down a job. After getting fired from a job, I moved home and eventually ended up going to library school. Again, in school I was doing better.

I graduated having decided to pursue a career as an archivist, basically because I loved History and I didn’t know what to do given how few faculty jobs exist. I did get a position in another state, but it turns out being an archivist was about the worst possible job for me. I have really severe ADHD (which I didn't know at the time) which has not responded to medication. I just couldn’t concentrate and get much work done or have the extreme level of attention to detail needed for the job. My depression got much more severe when my cat got diagnosed with kidney disease, which is a terminal illness. She is very young. My depression got much much more severe, and eventually a coworker found out I was bad at my job and went on a campaign to fire me. I had move home back with abusive family. I want to find a job that is a better fit for my brain, but all the options I’ve come up with are impossible to get. I don’t want to move cross country again to a random location also. I am completely stuck in life and ready to end things as soon as my cat dies. I am also asexual and pretty sex repulsed, so I will never have the support and love of a partner. I have nothing to live for.

Two of my therapist friends, one of whom is a pretty experienced EMDR clinician, really think I should try EMDR because I have not responded much to years of therapy and many psychiatric interventions. I am unsure if I have a trauma disorder, but I for sure relate to things I’ve read about CPTSD. I also struggle with visualization. Basically, I will have to beg the abusive family for money because no experienced EMDR clinicians seem to take insurance. I am also unsure they have worked with someone like me with only "mild" trauma and mostly severe depression that doesn't respond to therapy or meds. Does anyone have thoughts and/or know of good therapists for emdr (I can't deal with men) in California?

EMDR for treatment resistant depression (I know what patterns it is based in)

Looking for friends

Hi, I am a 31 year old asexual woman. I work in the cultural heritage field, and in my spare time I enjoy reading novels and hanging out with friends. I am very involved in Jewish Palestine solidarity activism among other causes. I have lost a lot of friends over the years because they prioritize their partners, no matter the gender, over platonic relationships. I am not a loner by nature and it is difficult to build close and consistent relationships when everyone seems fixated on their partners or dating almost exclusively. I would love to meet other long term single women looking for friends. I am in the Los Angeles area. Is anyone else looking for friends and located in so cal?

Guide to hooks for non profits and fundraising

Hi all

I work for a small lgbt community based archive. I have been trying to work on our instagram reels strategy for fundraising. I have seen many guides to hooks for videos but not for non profits. Does anyone know if anything like that exists or have experience in using short form video for non profit communications? Thanks

Hi I'm an archivist looking for a short term rental, a summer sublet would be perfect. I need a parking space and I have a cat. I'm looking for a studio or very inexpensive one bedroom around 2,000 a month with parking or somewhere easy to find street parking (unsure where that might even be). I have an esa letter.

I am also interested in sharing a house with one-two roommates, our own rooms and preferably bathrooms. Still need parking. For this I'm not dying to pay more than like 14-1500, no shared rooms.

Hi all,

I really appreciate the supportive community on this group and I was wondering if anyone else was local to the LA area (also SGV, exc). I would love to make more AUDHD friends, but to be honest after a difficult situation at my last job which impacted my mental health, I've been doing contract work for a community based archive and looking for my next real job for many months. I know there are not a ton of opportunities out there right now, but I would especially love to connect with anyone else in GLAMS, non-profit fundraising, or communications. I feel like I have tried everything at this point, and because of my intense interests in non career related topics and my impractical personality, I never really worked on developing a network when I was in school or in any of my jobs. I feel like cold dming folks who have nothing in common with me except working in the cultural heritage world is really not working out, so I thought I'd try here. I am open to a variety of types of office work.

Best

Julia

Hi folks. My 10 year old cat Jiji has had kidney disease (currently stage 2) for around 2 years. It was incredibly difficult to get her to eat kidney food, and after trying literally 10 different foods, my former vet in another state suggested we try an appetite stimulant (mirataz) in addition to heating the food, exc. This has worked for us. I moved back to my home state last year. I started going to a new vets office to get Jiji's check ups when I got here, which was recommended by one of the cat veterinary professional associations my former vets (who practiced at a cat specific clinic) showed me.

The first vet I saw was basically similar to my previous vet visits. However, I just saw a vet who had a very different perspective on her diet and specifically the use of mirtaz to get her to eat kidney food long term. She claimed it would be better for her to not take mirataz and eat non-kidney food than take mirataz long term to get her to eat the kidney food. Specifically, she claimed long term use of mirtaz will kill her sooner than not being on a veterinary diet. I did ask her for citations to back up this claim, and the couple articles I read were not really about long term impact/side effects of mirataz or other appetite stimulants. Is using them a pretty common practice to get a cat to eat a veterinary diet? What do you think about her claims? I have also tried to get back in contact with my former vet, but I don't know if they will respond given that I moved. I am struggling financially and would like to do some of my own research before paying for a second opinion on this issue.
