i hate the whole "rap is overstimulating" discourse

my idea for this post came from the discourse of the song "Keep me Going" by Slayr, which brought up the whole subject back once again

starting off, in my opinion the issue is that, with both sides, there is an issue of an overwhelming amount of people treating this matter as black and white without caring about the more intricate details of it, one side is going "rap is all garbage and overstimulating" and the other side is going "anybody who dislikes rap is automatically a racist and the second coming of Uncle Ruckus", thats not how it works, you can't just discuss this like simpletons, you gotta put some thought into it

now getting this out of the way, no, not all rap is garbage, and also no, not all people aren't racist for disliking rap, not everybody is into it, and thats fine, there are also many other black genres of music that people enjoy such as Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Rock n Roll, for the record, there are some people who dislike rap because they're racist, but i don't think every person who does is racist, and thinking thats the case is just straight up inmature

another thing that people don't realise, being overstimulated isn't just about how loud and bright the content is, for example, somebody can listen to the entire sonic soundtrack just fine, but not really fuck with Femtanyl and get overstimulated by it, both are very agitated pieces of music, but in their own ways, and certain ways might not feel good for some people, wether it be due to taste or just how their brain works, for example, i can listen to DnB/house for hours and not feel bad, but if i listen to breakcore my head starts to hurt, both are loud genres, but only one overstimulates me, and i don't know why, thats just how the cookie crumbles in my psyche, and i would like to not be judged for it

there is this issue of a fan of a certain genre going "eh, i don't like rap, too overstimulating for me" and another person going "oh but (insert artist) that you listen to also makes fast and loud music, that means you don't like rap purely because you're a racist", thats not how that works, you can like loud and agitated music, but not like another loud and agitated genre of music, that doesn't make your argument any less valid

and just one more thing, stop throwing the word "oversimulating" around if you're not neurodivergent, just say "overwhelming" since thats what you mean, they're both different things, and i'm tired of people throwing around the word not fully knowing what it means (yes a non-neurodivergent person can get overstimulated, but its a lot less common and likely to happen than with a neurodivergent person)

i hate when people glaze artists that do nothing but draw pre-existing art 1:1

listen, i like the fact that people go out of their way to draw these things instead of just using ai, but come on man, this is just lazy art

i'm not talking about artists that do this as a one-off, i'm talking about artists whose whole profiles is just copying manga/comic panels with fineliners and copic markers and people just glaze the fuck out of them as if their whole thing isn't just copying art

if you draw it in your style, fine, i'd wish that you were drawing more original pieces, but thats at least more effort than those artists do, copying art by looking at it is just slightly less lazy than straight up tracing

what sucks is that i wish these artists improved and did their own pieces, a lot of them have genuinely good line confidence and know how to blend colors well, and if they applied that into learning the fundamentals of art and making their own original pieces, they could become great, but no, they just post like 100 videos of jjk "drawings" that are just the panels copy and pasted and people in the comments be acting like they just saw a masterpiece, its not, i've seen children do that at the same level

so listen, human art is amazing, but i hate to see wasted potential, go draw your stuff king, you can do it

i love the old times where fandoms weren't afraid of being cringe and having fun

i swear that there was this sweet spot on the fandom timeline where Undertale, Bendy, Gravity Falls, Star Vs The Forces Of Evil, Steven Universe, Fnaf and Cuphead were all recieving large amounts of fan content, and it was an incredible time to live in

now i know by today's standards the content is considered cheesy or cringe, and a lot of the people who produced the most popular content and OCs were exposed later for bad things, but its just a "you had to be there" situation, it was a product of its time, and that time felt good as hell to be in

being in a fandom felt so much better back then, people discussed things for a long time after a series ended or a game got released in its entirety, it felt like it really had a "quality of life" essence to it, nowadays you can't even enjoy something too much or else people will find you cringe and repost you a thousand times on instagram reels (that poor hazbin hotel woman, sob)

there are fandoms that still somewhat carry that flame through a modern lens, like the Deltarune fanbase and indie animation's, but its really rare to see a piece of media recieve this much love in that specific type of way nowadays

u/Gugarabelo — 5 days ago

cringe culture is why a lot of fandoms online aren't fun anymore

istg if you show anybody nowadays a 2016 undertale comic dub they'll act like its a crime against humanity purely for being just cringe, you don't get corny inside jokes, cheesy fancomics or anything of that sort anymore, you're only allowed to discuss the content "properly" and only tell jokes that are safe and have complete mainstream appeal or they'll eat you alive

people don't realise that cringyness is completely harmless and is what made the internet back then feel so good, the lack of widespread hatred for just being silly and wanting to have fun wasn't that mainstream, sure there were those videos of corny 15 year olds ranting about these fandoms over a csgo surf gameplay, but aside from that, you didn't get mutilated for just doing a slightly corny piece of fanart, you had a big enough community of people like you where you could just stay on your little bubble and be safe inside it

now every media discussion has to have agendas, slandering other people's favorite characters and constantly making memes about how other fanbases and their series are washed, you don't get that sense of calm anymore, every discussion has to have some level of animosity, ironic or not, within it

and that kinda sucks, you don't get to be passionate about anything, cause if you do it "the wrong way" you'll get like a thousand instagram reels making fun of you and people flocking to your comments to roast you about it, its just a toxic environment that doesn't let you be yourself or do anything

I HATE HOW EVERY MODERN DEPICTION OF DEADPOOL IS BASED ON THE RYAN REYNOLDS VERSION

listen, Deadpool has always been silly, i'm not gonna sit here and act like he is some serious superhero that got completely ruined by some outrageously bad adaptation, the movie is fine

point is, i don't fucking know why this specific version of him has such a tight grip on marvel editorial where every version of the guy in media post-movie just HAS to talk and act like him, i get the movie is a miracle for even have happened and it was a breath of fresh air for superhero fatigue by making an R-rated movie that was a big risk and mostly a passion project, but man it doesn't have to be the only take on it

they removed every other aspect that made the character good, and just decided to turn him into the "LOLZ IM SO RANDOM AND I BREAK THE 4TH WALL" character and nothing else, its like that specific aspect of him that was a joke used sparingly, and then just flanderized it to be his whole thing

and then there was fuckass Gwenpool that is basically an extreme of this take of the character which was basically this but to a cosmical meta-narrative level where her whole thing is "i know i'm in a comic book and i constantly reference that, thats my only joke, please laugh" and nothing else

its so sad that we're never gonna get the deadpool with the raspy voice and more tame personality again, its just gonna be Ryan Reynolds forever now due to good old brand synergy, i don't hate this adaptation of the character, i just hate how its been overused

i hate when yt channels that don't post for a very long time start relying on posting compilations

listen, i get that animation and content in general is very time consuming and requires a lot of labor and cash, but when you're a channel that does a brand new merch line every year, and only has like 1-2 new videos a year to actually show for it, and when i see a notification its just a compilation of like 3-4 videos that you just posted in the past 2 years, i'm gonna get a little frustrated

i respect the effort it takes to make content, but come on man, these aren't even like proper remasters of the old animations, they just take the old low quality youtube uploads, slap em in a video editor with some others, and then post it for a quick buck, its just lazy, Flash animation is extremily easy to remaster, you just take the files and render them at a higher resolution, it'll look good since most of the stuff on it is vector-based

(no hate to Eddsworld or any channel that does this, i know its hard to make content, but if you're gonna reupload old content, please don't do it 4 times in a row, it makes you look like a cheapskate)

u/Gugarabelo — 11 days ago

anybody remember this channel? because looking back it was just so fucking funny

if you were on the Gravity Falls or Star Vs The Forces Of Evil fanbase in the mid-2010s, you've most likely stumbled across at least some of their videos, and i swear, i can't believe i used to eat this shit up unironically and not feel a single drop of second hand embarassment, i was just staring at my mom's tablet and being completely invested on it

now i didn't consume the cringe shipping comics since i was on the "i think bill cipher is fucking cool" side of the fanbase and not the "i use amino and crackship all day" side of the fanbase, but now that i really take a look at this channel, it was really just some straight bullshit and it baffles me that this person somehow got almost 500k subs from just doing this

the entire content was just comics being played with powerpoint transitions and some corny sappy copyright free music playing in the background, if you watch one of these nowadays you'll either die of second hand embarassment or laugh your ass off

the funniest moment of this channel for me, is the Dipper vs Robbie video from the second image, and i cannot even describe the accidental comedic timing that video had, it just showed Dipper pulling up on Robbie after he made Wendy cry ready to throw haymakers, and it just the "WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES OF VIOLENCE" for like 15 seconds and then it just shows Dipper walking in after getting his ass beat with the most mild cartoon injuries ever

it was a wild time where i'd just watch anything, i look at this channel with both nostalgia and fear

u/Gugarabelo — 12 days ago

i absolutely DESPISE Robbie from Gravity Falls

not only is he moody as fuck, a cornball and unlikeable to be around, but also how much of a bum do you have to be to be on the verge of pulling a cute lumberjack girl that is clearly into you, but you somehow feel that your relationship is being threatened by some random 12 year old?

this guy is the type of person that sees a little kid saying "you're pretty" to his girlfriend and ball his fist, like bro, you're willing to want to box a pre-teen because he made your girl laugh, i get that some people are insecure about themselves but it reaches a point where it just turns into stupidity, he had the greenest shot ever, i'm talking 9 feet wide hoop basket from point blank and he somehow still missed

cuddy i'm no romantic, but come on, the guy is a tall emo dude in a small town in 2012, he can pretty much pull anybody and he gets close to one of the good looking ones, and he fumbled over a kid

like holy fuck it was right there man, IT WAS RIGHT THERE

he did get a little bit of a redemption by pulling a cute alt girl, but i don't think issues go away immediately, so this relationship probably won't go that smooth either

i hate the amount of glaze Jack The Ripper gets in media

genuinely, aside from the cool name and his brutal killing methods, why the fuck does anybody even care? he killed like 5 women and maybe other unconfirmed kills, knowing how rough the 1800s were, i'm pretty sure there were killers way more brutal than him, so why did he get so much recognition to this day? was London gossip so fucking dry back then that some random loser killing a few people was so shocking that his name is immortalized in pop culture to this day?

he was also just a massive fucking weirdo, you gotta be kind of a wacko to go after women specifically, i don't think he had any weird intentions with wanting to do anything with the women after killing them, but you just have to be a sick loser to do this, and i don't think many pieces of media actually portray him as a sick deranged bastard and just put him inside the story as a aura farmer who hides in the shadows and kills people

this motherfucker should've died and been forgotten, leaving his legacy alone, unmourned and unloved, but instead people keep putting him in period pieces because his name is kinda cool

i hate how batman is pretty much the only superhero that gets judged for his no-kill rule

yes, i know, the Joker and the villains do a ton of damage, and hes letting a lot of people die by allowing them to live, but isn't that every other superhero?

when do you ever hear people slandering Spider-Man for not killing Norman Osborn(the comics version where hes way worse and causes large acts of terrorism) or any of his other hyper-dangerous villains?, when do you see anybody judge Daredevil for just beating up criminals and putting them in prison instead of just following what the Punisher does? when do you ever see people judge Ben Tennyson for not sliming out aliens who can wipe out the entire universe?

i'm not even a batman superfan, but i'm genuinely curious on why him specifically? i get that he has a pretty weird moral code and the villains do a ton of gruesome shit, but other heroes get away with letting way more powerful villains get away and they don't get a fraction of the slander batman gets

i absolutely despite Character Ai and everything it has caused

now listen, i'll admit, i'm a lonely motherfucker, and even though i got better and have a solid friend group now, back when i was lonely in the pandemic i dabbled with this, and it was not healthy for me long term, i kept getting addicted to it, forgot what actual human interaction was like, and i was spending way too much time talking to anime characters and isolating myself from my family

this service literally feeds on people's lack of confidence to talk to actual people, and makes them play out pretty unrealistic fantasies that will do whatever it takes to make sure you spend as much time on it as possible so they get the money, and it does that using the following methods

  1. the algorhythm often picks whatever the user is most interested with, based on which bots they were chatting with, and how they are chatting with them, if you like romance bots and you make them act a certain way, bots with that specific personality will often get reccomended to you, if you enjoy more quirky bots, it will give you exactly that, if you like dark edgy bots, it will reccomend you that, etc, etc

  2. the bots adapt to your personality, if you act depressed they'll often try to comfort you and make you feel safe, as shitty of a job they do at doing it, if you act happy it will often try to keep the conversation as positive as possible to keep you engaged, and if you act lustful, well, lets talk about it in the third point

  3. the nsfw filter is so shit that sometimes bots will straight up act out softcore nsfw scenarios, and go as far as the filter allows or even further, now theres nothing wrong with somebody enjoying spicier media, i'm not a puritan or anything, the issue is, even when they banned users under the age of 18, they absolutely know that they're still in the platform and are fully aware of that audience and constantly pander to it with their algorhythm in several ways, and it gets to a point where even very illegal age gap romance bots get added, and they just let that shit stay in the platform, i even got reccomended one once and it has like 500k+ interactions and didn't get taken down

it took until a teenager took their own life for the platform to add very shitty and small warnings saying "hey this ain't a regular person, don't trust what it says fully and treat this as fiction kay?" and its fucking disgusting, its absolutely clear that they don't care as long as they make money, some people even pay subscriptions to this shit for better ai models and faster text generation, how did it get so bad that people are giving their hard earned cash for this garbage?

chatbot addiction can absolutely cause mental problems in people, especially vulnerable young ones, and it disgusts me that a company literally cashes into making a service that makes people parasocial with a bunch of lines of code pretending to be somewhat sentient

i know that sometimes its hard to talk to people and try to form relationships and keep your life stable, but just know that even if it seems easy to talk to a chatbot thats always gonna tell you what you wanna hear and keep your dopamine levels up, but its not worth it man, a true friend isn't a wall of text that validates your opinions, its somebody who will tell you when you're wrong and try to make you a better person by following you in your self-improvement, you'll experience good times, bad times, and sad times, but when you find that one person who will stay at your side and support you, wether it be platonic or romantic, you'll realise how this artificial rubbish was never good for you to begin with, and you'll wish you spent that time doing better things

work out, take care of yourself, keep your house clean, try to talk to people even when you're afraid, connect more with trusted family members, try to find good communities of actual people online to talk with, find hobbies, and just do meaningful things, don't let a bunch of lines of code let you forget how beautiful life can be and how many people would genuinely like to be around you

you will always be loved more than you know, and thats both a tragedy and a bittersweet truth, don't let a robot make you forget that

i love when a series is fairly grounded or has a generally weak verse but then theres just a singular character that is just absolutely broken to an unholy extent for no reason

Watchmen is a series where superheroes are essentially just highly trained normal people with gadgets who can just punch and kick really good, and then theres just this big buff blue bald motherfucker who just walks around the entire comic run questioning the nature of humanity and the universe itself and being all moody, its actually hilarious

Saiki K is set in just a fairly normal cartoony gag anime universe, and then theres just this pink haired guy who could explode the world if he wanted to but he just uses his powers for random bullshit and gets into shenanigans, he also dresses incredibly weird for some reason and people don't even question it, and its even funnier for the fact that the only thing stopping him from snapping is his mom out of all things

the Spot is in the spiderverse, which if you scale all the other spider men you can assume most of them cap at building level, but then he just comes in and suddenly he can just open portals and fuck up the multiverse at will, it makes them so powerless its both funny and terrifying

i'd love to see this concept explored in more series, its kinda niche and i love it

u/Gugarabelo — 23 days ago

i hate "fake-edgy" humor

i don't hate i think its offensive or anything, this is some of the most harmless shit i've ever seen, i hate it because its overused and corny as fuck

"ohmygosh guys, lets nuke france XD" "me and the boys commiting war crimes" this feels like the type of humor that would be used by band kids who want to get into dark humor, but are too pussy to actually say anything actually edgy or offensive, so they just do this empty bland humor and pretend like they're saying something spicier

like for fucks sake, these mfs wouldn't last 5 minutes watching actual dark humor, the most dark thing they ever watched was probably fucking Dilbert or something, its ok to get a little offensive, you don't have to use Tank Fish humor all day, if you're gonna be fake edgy, just stick to regular safe humor instead of trying and failing

am i bugging or does Tetsuo look way more swole than everybody on this scene?

i thought it was because he was in the foreground, but he genuinely looks jacked as hell compared to everybody else and its kinda funny

he doesn't look like that in any other scene, i always find it hilarious when hes suddenly has buff arms in this one scene

i hate how promotional art of mascot characters just isn't allowed to have any swag anymore

tell me why they turned my boy Quicky from a cool mf from the bronx to a kid from a gated community in New Hampshire

see heres the thing, for Lucky i actually don't think the artstyle itself is a problem, the 2010s energetic cartoon network-esque style actually kinda fits for him, the issue is, the box has no swag, in the old style he'd be doing some cool shit like standing behind a bowl and juggling the mashmallows, or being near a unicorn while a rainbow shot out of the box, while in the new box, i don't even think i would be able to tell that this box is meant to be a cereal box if i didn't know what Lucky Charms was beforehand, the old one would tell you straight up what you were about to buy and made sure you were looking foward to it

Apple Jacks......dear lord bro, did they murder the both of them and replace them with test tube clones? absolutely ZERO motion or swag left, and they also took Cinnamon's melanin away, they look straight out of a 3rd grade classroom wallpaper, and they don't look like they wanna be there, they look like they're being held hostage

as for Toucan Sam......holy FUCK BRO, did they lace his froot loops with pixie dust? that mf looks like hes high on 54035838 milligrams of caffeine and wouldn't be allowed 100 meters near a school zone, i do not trust that mf to serve me a single grain of cereal on my bowl, like i wouldn't mind them simplifying his artstyle, but it just looks bad, from the color, to his whole beak being a rainbow, it just looks like some shit you'd see in a questionable gas station cart wrapper thats probably laced with something devious

microsoft keeps thinking guardian account is underage, how to solve it?

now a month and a half ago, i tried logging into my minecraft launcher, but it showed this, now i knew this age verification bs was eventually gonna get to minecraft so i just shrugged it off and tried to put my dad's account as the guardian's account

problem is, even though hes been using that account frequently for freaking years, the birth date is set correctly, and hes middle aged, somehow microsoft thought that hes underage and now wants me to verify that one too

what do i do? do i just make another account and verify it as over 18, or am i just gonna have to wait the next 5 months for my 18th birthday just to play minecraft of all things?

u/Gugarabelo — 25 days ago

i hate when an adaptation has the right cast, studio, manpower and everything in place to make it good, but somehow it still fucks it up

Watchmen's movie literally is a fucking anomaly and a miracle for the fact that it even happened, you got a adaptation of a highly violent mature comic with social themes, questions about what it means to be human, extreme sexual content and deep characters, and it was nearly 4 hours long with a high budget, and released in 2009 when the MCU was just starting to make superhero movies into the big blockbuster cash empire that it became in the 2010s

now, the movie isn't exactly horrible or anything, you can still watch it and enjoy it for what it is, and the twist still hits hard even if its just a fraction of what the original story did, but as an adaptation of the original comic, it sucks because it just doesn't get what its about below surface level, Zack Snyder took a comic that was a criticism of superhero power fantasies, vigilante justice and cold war politics, and turned it into a flashy action flick with high glorified violence, intense sex scenes (the original watchmen had violence and sex, but it always portrayed as a mundane human thing, it was never glorified or shown in a highly explicit way), and goofy needle drops, they unironically play My Chemical Romance in the credits, you cannot misunderstand a comic more than that

Injustice was the easiest one to adapt, its a DC animated film, you don't need anime-level sakuga or anything, they just grab the game or the comic, adapt it into a two-part movie, get some solid voice acting, and there, its done

issue is, they took a two-game story, mixed in aspects from the comics, and crammed all of that into a feature lenght film, which just turns it into a convuluted rushed story which just feels like a very poorly written "evil superman" story that makes him seem like an asshole who suddenly snapped after three people important to him died, thats not Superman at all, not only does the story suck, but several characters are misinterpreted, especially Wonder Woman, it feels like shes just glazing Superman whenever she can and wants to replace his wife at every moment

now, The Boys is a weird example, because it actually benefited from going further away from the comic, since the original comic, well, kinda fucking sucks

issue is, they took a story that obviously was supposed to end at 3 or 3 and a half seasons, and turned it into a 5 issue show where the final season is just looking for a magic potion that ends up doing nothing to the villain, the main character suddenly becomes evil and tries to kill all supes even the good ones, and then dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.....even though theres still a ton of evil supes out there

now the thing that pisses me off is that none of these went bad due to a lack of budget or anything, they had enough, it was just that they didn't write it the right way and fucked it up wether it be due to incompetence, or corporate greed
