I was able to pick this RA 783 last winter on a trade deal. Brand new never fired with the camo stock. Yes this is a budget class rifle but that budget part is really just the stock and no optic when purchasing new. The 783 action and barrel are really quite nice. You have a smooth functioning action with an adjustable trigger followed up with a nice tapered barrel with a crowned muzzle. The stock is functional, but its down sides are plastic sling mounts that look like they would break if you sneezed on them and a not so great fit around the barrel. It’s plastic and they are not molded 100% strait. This barrel contact can affect accuracy.

So right off the get go I knew I had options for a bedded set up from Boyd’s. I had done this in the past and wanted to do a chassis system instead. This is where Outlier comes in. The gang at Outlier has taken the time to make and offer chassis systems for Rifles like the RA 783 that no one else offers. Especially the Long Action magnum rounds like the .300 Win Mag. This kit starts with the main chassis and then you pick the length of the ARCA + M-Lok Rail. 7.5”, 10.5”, or 15.5”. Next choose your stock, Outlier offers a 23oz stock set or a 38 oz stock set both essentially the same with a Limb Saver butt pad and an adjustable cheek riser. Now here’s a cool thing this is a AR buffer tube style mount so you can also go 1914 rail adapter, or a full on AR rifle length stock set up less the bigger and spring. Endless options, even a folder can be used. Three bag riders are available from the wedge or two different weighted riders in 15.3 oz or a light weight 2.8 oz rider. I went with the wedge at 2.6 oz’s. Last is the grip, which again has endless choices because it’s an AR style grip. I chose the Amend2 option that Outlier has. But you can choose from any of your favorite AR grips and fit it to you.

Putting the chassis together is really quite simple. Pull your action out of your old stock and bag up the parts. You won’t need any of them. Bolt the Outlier chassis together using the torque specs provided and hit the range. Since the writing of this I also added a Magpul M-Lock black bi-pod to the front and I was able to get 20 rounds down range for its first time out. Off the bi-pod and no bags I was able to get it on target relatively fast. It definitely shoots better than I do but I’m going to work on that. The rifle is a joy to shoot and this chassis deals with the recoil very well. My first putting was 100 yards with Hornady 180 gr soft point America Whitetail loads. I plan on working to get it tightened up and then stretch it out to two hundred yards next go around.

So I picked this guy up this year, unfired and in new condition. As many know the 783 action isn’t considered a bad option unlike some other Remington options in the past. Yes it not a 700 but the 783 is a budget friendly rifle with a let’s say low end stock. So low end that the sling mounts are plastic and won’t last long under use. It’s well known that these low end stocks also affect accuracy. Well
Outlier has stepped up and offers a chassis system for the 783’s in both short action and long action. I have a LA chassis on the way with a full load out to get this 783 up to speed. Heading to the range Monday to get the brand new Original never been fired 21” TC Arms barrel sighted in. I threw on the SSK forend with the Magpul M lock bipod and the always present New style Sharps Bros pistol grip with the new Aluminum pic rail mount. The brace is a dual fold from Strike industries with the check riser. Scope is an old original Burris Fullfield 3x-9x 40mm. I also plan on shooting my 17 HMR 14” Bull Barrel with a Holosun HS403B 2MOA dot on it.

Pick this up a few weeks back for back yard plinking and pest control. Wow am I impressed! I didn’t go crazy on a pump as of yet but a Vevor hand pump from
Amazon is working just fine to top this thing off at 3000 psi. What impresses me most is how accurate this rifle is. I started with just the iron sights and at my limited 25 yards in the back yard it will group 8 shots on in a 1/2” circle. Trigger is butter smooth. I decided to toss on a cheap barska scope that I had on an old break barrel crossman and this is way better. The starlings and pigeons don’t have a prayer! This is my first venture into a PCP rifle with me being 54 yrs old and I wish I would have done it sooner!
