How can I prepare for M.Sc. Computational Methods in Engineering at Leibniz University Hannover?

Hi everyone,

I'll be starting the M.Sc. Computational Methods in Engineering at Leibniz University Hannover this winter semester.

I come from a Civil Engineering background, but it's been a while since I studied subjects like mechanics, mathematics, numerical methods, and programming. I have a few months before the semester starts, so I want to use that time to prepare properly.

For anyone who has taken this program (or something similar), I'd really appreciate your advice.

  • Which subjects should I focus on before classes begin?
  • Is Python enough, or should I also learn MATLAB?
  • Which first-semester courses are usually the toughest?
  • Is there anything you wish you had revised before starting?

I'm not looking to get ahead of the course - I just don't want to feel completely lost in the first few weeks.

Any advice or personal experience would be really helpful. Thanks!

Accommodation in Hannover (1 Oct)

Hello everyone,

I am an international student from India. I have been admitted to the Master's programme in CME at Leibniz University Hannover for the Winter Semester 2026/27.

I am currently looking for accommodation in Hannover from 1 October 2026 (or up to 10 days earlier if possible).

My preferences are:
• Single room / studio apartment
• 2-person shared apartment (WG)
• 3-person shared apartment (WG)

Budget: €300–€450 per month.

I am a non-smoker, responsible, clean, and respectful tenant. I do not have any pets and will focus primarily on my studies.

For my residence registration and visa requirements, I would need:
• Mietvertrag (rental contract)
• Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation)

If you have a room available or know of any suitable accommodation, I would be very grateful if you could contact me.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Second Attempt: Previous Post Was Removed

Hi everyone,

After months of waiting and checking portals almost every day, I finally have all my admission results for Winter Semester 2026/27.

I got admits from:

• University of Siegen – M.Sc. Engineering of Hydro-Environmental Extremes
• Bauhaus University Weimar – M.Sc. Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering
• TU Darmstadt – M.Sc. Civil Engineering
• Leibniz University Hannover – M.Sc. Computational Methods in Engineering
• Leibniz University Hannover – M.Sc. Geodesy and Geoinformatics
• TU Braunschweig – M.Sc. Computational Sciences in Engineering
• TU Bergakademie Freiberg – M.Sc. Groundwater Management
• Ruhr University Bochum – M.Sc. Subsurface Engineering

I'm still deciding which one to choose. Every program has something I like, so it's been harder than I expected to make a final decision.

This subreddit has been really helpful throughout the whole application process, so I just wanted to share my results. Reading other people's posts here helped me a lot when I was waiting, so maybe this gives someone else a bit of hope too.

If anyone is studying in any of these universities or knows about these programs, I'd love to hear your experience. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

I know how stressful the application process can be, so if anyone has questions about applying to these programs, Uni-Assist, APS, interviews, or the overall process, feel free to ask. I'll be happy to share my experience

No If Cheema Y dropped another album tomorrow, I’d probably memorize it by the weekend. 💀

Half the year gone, and the soundtrack has been nothing but bangers.
200–300+ different songs every month, yet somehow Cheema Y keeps finding his way back to the top.

Wasn’t Ready for This 💀

Pata Hai Aaj Kya Hua
I was at CP with my two friends. We were a little high, so my eyes were slightly red.
There was this girl around us who was dressed pretty differently, and she had that confident, runway-walk kind of vibe. She walked past us once… then again… and then one more time. We didn’t really think much of it.
Then out of nowhere, she stopped right beside me, looked straight into my eyes, smiled and said
“You really have pretty eyes.”
For a second, my brain just froze. I was too high to come up with anything clever.😭
I just gave a little smirk and said “Thanks” and walked away like nothing had happened.
A couple of minutes later, it finally hit me.
Out of the three of us, she came over just to compliment my eyes.
Ngl… I wasn’t expecting that at all. That random compliment low-key made my day.

Some roads take you places. Some roads make you stop and stare.

Somewhere in the Himalayas, where the roads disappear into the snow and the mountains remind you how small you really are.

German student visa interview after embassy call - should I be worried?

Posting on behalf of a friend.

She has an admission for an English-taught master’s program in Germany. The university offers an orientation/German language course starting in August, but it’s mentioned as recommended rather than mandatory. Since her program starts in October, she planned to travel in late September.

Recently, she received a call regarding her visa application and was asked why she wasn’t planning to attend the orientation course. She explained that her degree is taught in English and that she intended to arrive closer to the start of the semester.

The caller then switched to German and asked a few basic questions. She has studied German and completed language courses, but she got extremely nervous and blanked out during the call. She fumbled even on simple questions that she normally knows how to answer.

A few days later, she received an email asking her to appear for a personal interview at the embassy.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? What kind of questions were asked during the interview? Is this usually just a clarification interview, or should she be seriously worried about a refusal?

Any experiences or advice would be appreciated.

3 Days Solo in Parvati Valley (Kasol, Manikaran, Kheerganga) – Need Itinerary Sug

Planning a solo trip to Kasol, Manikaran & Kheerganga next week and looking for suggestions.
Current plan is to take a night bus on Saturday and reach Manikaran Sunday morning. I’ll have Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and then take a night bus back on Tuesday.
I’m thinking of covering Manikaran, Kasol, Chalal, Tosh, Kalga/Pulga, and doing the Kheerganga trek, but not sure if that’s realistic in 3 days.
What would be the best itinerary? Any hidden spots, cafés, viewpoints, short hikes, or places that are worth visiting around Parvati Valley? Also, is it better to stay in Kasol, Tosh, or Kalga for most of the trip?
Would love to hear how you would plan these 3 days if you were traveling solo. Thanks!
