DLC concept: Wakeman's Retreat

A hypothetical next step in the story:

The player scientist(s) either chooses to enter a Perforation, or one is opened upon them. Either way, they find themselves in GATE's Skewback facility in White Canyon, NV. This facility has been taken over by Dr. Wakeman, who tries to hold the Scientist(s) as further test subjects for the next step in his human brain digitization experiments. He makes noises about digitizing mankind to protect them against the chaos of the ongoing perforation storm, but it's clear he's frankly losing it. The player(s) must escape his bizarre test environments and find their way through the facility.

Yes, it's a wholesale reference to Portal.

Farmable pets

I know the Peccary Sow and Mushroom Peccary both have harvestable goods. Are there any other pets that regularly provide a harvestable resource?

Meta permabanning folks for no reason, offering no recourse

Not sure if this is already on the radar for Ed or other folks here, but lately Facebook, Instagram, and such have been on a spree of suspending and disabling accounts for no clear reason, with incredibly inconsistent communication. Often there’s no opportunity to appeal, or the appeal is denied almost instantly.
Worse, the only way to contact a human for support is to pay for Meta Verified - and even that is incredibly inconsistent and unhelpful.
The impression I get is that Meta has offloaded most if not all of their content moderation to AI, which has been doing what AI does - making blatant mistakes. Without humans double checking its work, it’s just getting worse and worse.
There’s a whole subreddit, r/facebookdisabledme, dedicated to users suffering this issue.

Per the title. Someone going door to door knocked on my apartment and said I could sign up to get discounted electrical through them. I just want to make sure this isn't a scam and see if it's worth it.

I got an email saying that someone wanted a Meta business arrangement with me - odd, since my account has been disabled for a month. I clicked in, and it gave me the "You said you've been hacked, please identify yourself by email" screen.

Great, I thought, and put in my email.

It didn't recognize it.

I am swiftly growing Jokerfied.

I'm looking for some advice on how to do a memory justice.

Several years ago, I went to a local distillery that has a cocktail tasting room. There, I tasted a Lion's Tail cocktail, made with that distillery's homemade bourbon and allspice dram made with the distilley's homemade rum.

It was transcendant. Delicious and complex, with a flavor that evolved over the course of several seconds after drinking - and when I breathed out after a sip, the flavor continued to evolve further. It was, without any exaggeration, the best cocktail I have ever had. I've been hoping to emulate it ever since. I even got them to share the recipes they used for their dram and for the cocktail itself.

I finally replicated the recipes, albeit with storebought ingredients, and... it's not the same. I think I know some of the problem, but not all of it. For example, when I cracked the allspice, it was very uneven and many of the berries were left intact. I suspect it may have underextracted. I'm going to use a spice grinder for my next attempt.

But what else can I do to get that real, shimmering, vibrant flavor?

The recipes as I was given them:

Allspice dram:

  • 1 cup 80 proof rum (Cruzan recommended)
  • 1/4 cup crushed allspice berries
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken up
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown or demerara sugar

Demerara syrup: add water to brown sugar.  Bring to a boil and simmer until all sugar is dissolved.

Mix rum and allspice.  Steep 4 days, shaking daily.  On the 5th day, add cinnamon stick.  Continue to shake daily.  On the 12th day, strain and mix in syrup.

Lion's Tail:

  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz allspice dram
  • 1/2 oz demerara syrup
  • 2 oz whiskey
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters

Shake all ingredients, strain, and serve in a chilled coupe glass.

I haven't been able to find demerara sugar, so I had to just use light brown sugar.
