Bonus, my cat wouldn’t leave me alone while I was packing these so I gave her a pile of catnip and now she’s passed tf out 😂
Apologies for recording a screen, I don’t have an SD card reader and my scope doesn’t do WiFi.
.3 for an oil change and multi point inspection. This is the shield and all the clips and bolts that hold it, which must be removed to drain the oil and access the filter. These kids are expected to work at a very fast pace getting shit pay and if they happen to miss something on the check over, and who could blame them under these conditions, they get chewed out. I know most are hourly, but they typically have efficiency based incentives that push them to meet or exceed these times. I also hate that a lot of older techs who are years or even decades removed from this shit see it as a rite of passage or hazing that everyone must go through.
Maybe if we took better care of the entry level guys there wouldn’t be so few diagnostic techs. Just saying 🤷♂️
Edit: I think it’s funny people assume I’m an underpaid lube tech that’s bitching. I’m an A tech with certs, I just see an industry standard (yes I know some shops are the exception) of shitting on lube techs instead of, you know, giving them conditions and training to attract people to the field. I know I’m in the minority.
He had several songs up and he would create the songs on the spot, sometimes explaining how the loop setup worked as he did it. No instruments, no other people involved. Lots of beatboxing and singing. Been searching for like an hour and there’s soooooo many creators that do this now I can’t find him.
Hey guys,
Well I started off my morning with what I that was gonna be a quick oil change on my Kia.
Here I am now 7 hours later trying to get this dang Oil Filter off.
Originally it’s a bolt attachment at the end, I tried that it wouldn’t budge.
Tried the old sand paper trick that didn’t work either.
Then I took out my metal snake ratchet tool that usually gets the job done, same thing it didn’t budge.
Then I poked a screw driver down the middle, still nothing.
Then I tried chiseling loose for about 2000 hammer strikes and still nothing.
Next step is to go find some strong durable screws, screw them in the holes, then take my screwdriver and turn it off. It’s late now and I got work in the morning (thank god I have two cars) so im gonna call it a night (Kia 1, me 0) and pick it back up after work tomorrow.
If you any of you have ran into the oil filter from hell, and have survived please tell me your war story I neeeeed it.
Thanks.
I work at a Nissan dealership, but drive a 22 escape. The rear window regulators are a super common failure on these with no aftermarket parts available. I replaced the first one (right after bumper to bumper expired, of course) and the other side was popping so I said fuck it that window stays closed.
Wife borrowed my car and didn’t know, put the window down and the regulator gave up the ghost. Had parts order the replacement and according to ford’s system there’s an updated regulator and motor, as well as 13 clips and 2 nuts that are required. Cool, fine, send it all.
Parts arrived and immediately I find that the roughly $130 in clips and nuts are included on the new regulator out of the box. Annoying, but ok send those back let’s keep trucking.
Then I pull the new window motor out. My brothers in Christ, ford _did not_ update a damn thing except sticking a new cheap sticker over the old one with the updated part number. It’s the exact same motor. I put the old one back in as the motor didn’t fail, and sure enough everything’s good to go.
I’ve seen auto zone parts with a Dorman sticker slapped over an AC Delco part label or similar, but I’ve never seen this level of bullshit from ford or any other OEM part. This is not a reman either it’s a brand new motor direct from ford.
I’m just glad I have the knowledge to catch this bullshit, Harry homeowner though out here getting bent over.
Edit: after calming down and reading some of the comments, this was a bad take. I’ll own that. For those that shared information thank you. The source of my frustration here is whoever in the chain of people initially stated that the motor needs replaced whenever the regulator is replaced. I understand the new motor may have been reworked, but when it takes 15 minutes to pull the door panel off I’m not dropping 100 bucks on a new motor when the old one works fine.
I’m hoping to get a pass from the mods on this post.
For some background I’m a tech with a little over a decade of experience with sufficient certs. Anyone who’s been in this industry for any amount of time knows that it’s a thankless job by and large. Nobody _wants_ to have to go to a shop and pay money to fix their car.
But these advice subreddits, sometimes some casual advice learned from experience in the field can make a difference for someone just trying to get by. This kind of response is why I’m here and why I reply when I can. Just really glad to have made a positive impact for someone I dunno I’m pretty baked right now this might just be a fever dream 😂
Customer brought in with a rattle over bumps. Never personally seen someone shave ears on a pad down this far. No idea what they were trying to accomplish.
