I've got a folder of game ideas and exactly zero coding ability. not rusty, not "i did html once." just zero! tried GDevelop twice this month becuase people keep saying it's beginner friendly. the event sheet thing felt like learning a whole new language when all i wanted was to test one mechanic. same deal with Construct. spent a free night clicking around the editor instead of finding out if the idea was fun. And these are tiny ideas. a 2d jump thing, a card rule test, a puzzle loop. nothing to ship. I tried a rough Combos prototype for one of the tiny ideas, and it helped me feel the mechanic faster. but i still dk if that'sactually smart or if it just delays learning a real tool. not trying to skip the hard part, just wanted to test before committing. Basicly want to know if one mechanic is worth touching again, before i sink three weeks into learning a tool that might be wrong for me. Where's the split happen? do you learn a no-code engine from day one, or use an AI prototype tool first to get a rough playable and rebuild later if the idea survives? I have maybe 5 hours a week. spending them learning menus before testing the idea is starting to feel backwards.
