Adopting a bird is hard for reasons you might not think

So I want a macaw. I’ve been doing research for about a year now and still plan on doing another year or so before I get one yet every time I ask question 99% of the time it is just people saying don’t do it, you won’t give what’s needed, they should be wild, ect. All while they own the same bird many time multiples. Constant talk of how much time is needed but the same people work full time jobs where as I don’t and can give full time care and attention to a bird.

Another controversial thing that gets to me is prices / difficulty obtaining a macaw. When I say this it’s always the immediate “if you can’t afford the bird you can’t afford the care” which i agree is absolutely 100% true. BUT at the same time you see people get these same birds for free or very cheap when that person has no knowledge at all. Why does the person with no knowledge who is going to abuse the bird get it for free where as the person who will provide great care and love does not, that $2k-$5k cost of the bird could instead be spent on even more enrichment, larger enclosures or aviaries. The better care taker never gets the cheaper / better deal on a bird which I don’t understand.
Along the same lines is people refusing to allow a larger bird to go to a new / first time bird owner even with experience with other exotic animals, full time available, space, research, local vet, ect. Still get turned away while still seeing irresponsible people getting these bird cheap or free. A lot of times they get the most behaved angel of a bird too. Why can’t I (or anyone responsible) get that free / cheap gem of a bird, why are the responsible people the ones charged thousands?

Ever since premium subscription ended quality went to crap and camera has issues connecting

Ever since my subscription ended the camera quality became crap, it get stuck on step 1 of 3 when trying to watch live, and watching things saved to the SD card all stutter and jump. None of this happened while my subscription was active but as soon as it ended the camera became horrible. Camera is v3 and only a few months old it was an upgrade from our last one.

Safe food insight from an adult with autism

I’m an autistic adult and wanted to share how I see and feel about safe foods to hopefully help some parents understand what eating is like for their child.

one of my safe foods was pizza huts tuscani pasta which they discontinued. I have wanted this so badly for years I genuinely will go a day without eating because there is nothing else that I want and everything else looks, smells and sounds vile and I'd rather just not eat. I will be hungry I can be very hungry but if I don't have the specific safe food im wanting / needing I can't eat. It definitely makes me frustrated and upset to be hungry and not be able to eat. It's not being picky or stubborn, things I love suddenly become the most foul thing that I can't eat, kind of like if someone handed you a bowl of worms in sludge and vomit, my body will have the same repulsive reaction to things I love at random. I can have the same safe food for years then suddenly despise it and never want it again for no reason at all. It's not like this every day tho some days it's fine to eat things outside of the safe zone and try things sometimes it not and it's not something you have control over. There will also be times quite often where I fixate on a food and want to eat only that and nothing but that as if it’s the greatest thing I have ever had even if it’s something I have had in the past and was just okay with it, it can suddenly just become a fixation food. Just a suddenly as a fixation starts it can stop. I have no idea why it happens I do not control it I just listen to it and give my body what it wants as long as I am healthy.

Edit: Textures! Textures play a large roll as well there will be things I like the flavor of they taste good but I can’t or won’t eat them solely because of the texture of them. For me it’s most meat like steak and pork unless it’s ground for a taco or burger. To me yes it tastes good but it has the texture of carpet fibers and no matter how much you chew it it stays that same texture. I no longer eat frozen burritos of any brand or flavor because one had a hard bit in it. An eggshell in a cake or anything made with eggs will completely ruin it.

How can I screen record on FaceTime?

When I screen record I just get a blurred out screen and no sound for the that lasts the length of however long I screen recorded for. We both have FaceTime Live Photos enabled. The only thing we can think of is his phone is one update behind. Would that be the cause of this or is it something else?

Failed tilt table test and it was the doctors fault

About a year ago I failed my tilt table test and it was the cardiologists fault. I have pretty much every single symptom of pots multiple doctors even agreed that i have pots but the tilt table was needed for a legal diagnosis. Well the problem is my cardiologist put me on 25mg Atenolol a week before the test upped to 50mg after. He gave me medication to stabilize my heart before running the damn test so it failed. The test should have been run before medication was given, I was fresh on the medicine and wasn’t fully adjusted to it I am now back to how I was with my heart all messed up going from 75 to 130 just from standing up even with the medication. It wears out before the 24 hours is up I feel like shit again still have no diagnosis and had to pay out of pocket for the test along with other tests he ran, it wasn’t cheap. The side effects of pots are so exhausting if you know you know.

[IL] can I get full custody?

Here's a list of some information i believe would be grounds to sue and or grant full custody but id like opinions. There is more to this list this is just the most recent issues

Breaking order of protection, braking custody orders (showing up late / early, trying to drop off on their scheduled days, refusing to get court ordered co parenting app, showing up at night to leave handwritten notes with family and in mailbox).
False order of protection (done as retaliation after a police call for open alcohol and no car seat in the car).
Emotional distress, (due to false report suddenly could not see or have any updates on child for 2-3 months) harassment, (messaging family members to demand money, says things about being a terrible parent)

Is this possible?

I’ll start by saying I’m not planing on getting a bird for a few years I have a lot of preparation, money saving, and learning to do you can never learn enough.

That being said, how rare / unlikely will it be for me to find a Catalina Macaw who will be friendly enough to go parks or other places with me? I wouldn’t be going out every day maybe on the weekends or every few weekend possibly bring him/her to kids birthday party’s. Basically get to do what the person in this video does.

How rare / unlikely and expensive would it be to find a some what older bird (20-30s could be younger I’m just wanting something past the hormonal teenage changing phase) that would be capable of this prior to me getting it, so one with previous training (good with people, harness, stepping up)

I am located in Florida about an 1.5 hour from Tampa on the west coast, I know our state has a handful of rescues I’m just not sure where exactly I would look for this “picture perfect” bird

And lastly is if I find Catalina who is close to what I want but still needs training I will happily work with him/her or work with a trainer to achieve that goal. If the bird ends up not being capable of doing that stuff I’m also still okay with that tho I would like to bring him places with me like parks and nature trails even and avoid interaction with strangers if he just isn’t a social butterfly

I miss this bird

About 10 years ago a local pet shop had this macaw, I would visit at least once a week to go see him/her. He started out pretty shy but after enough visits started to dance with me and later on even trusted me to pet him. I had asked the store owner about him and was told he’s a store pet. About 1-2 months after being told he’s the store pet I went in to visit and he was gone they had sold him because the shop was failing. I wish they had told me he was available I wanted him I still think about him

Enrichment idea

Fun idea (I think?) grow some sheets of wheatgrass and then shove treats down in it to make a natural foraging box.

Haven’t tried it but maybe the grass could be hung / attached on the side of the cage (maybe dry it out then hang it for a different texture and more shredding, it might hold together better if it’s dry)

I don’t have a bird yet but I’ve grown these for my guinea pigs.
