What level of awareness do you feel you have about what’s happening in the rest of the world?

I’m an American, grew up on the west coast and now in the Midwest. I try and stay somewhat aware of the news in the rest of the world, but honestly I have to be intentional about it or it’s easy to only hear and see stuff about local and national stuff.

Do you all work at staying aware of the world? I don’t know how to do a poll in here, sorry, but I’ll offer a bit of a self-scoring guide from 1-10.

10 - Super aware of international events and global issues in an ongoing way
5 - I try and have some international news show up in my news feed, but I don’t focus on it all the time
1 - It’s not a priority for me. I’m mostly aware of local and national news, but not international.

I think I’d honestly rate myself at a 6. Wish it was higher.

Thinning the Cable Drawers

I’m thinning out the cables in my tower of cable drawers. I’m glad I have them, and they’ve saved the day several times. But I’m thinking nobody will need a PS2 to USB adapter anymore. 😃

Feels like the marker of a new season.

Hi! my 80s animatronic car, printed on a Bambu A1

Printed at a 0.16 mm layer height. It features 2 servo motors, an IR remote, and sound effects. It was a really fun project to build, and I love my Bambu A1!

Casio calculator watch in the wild

I was at work today and one of my GenZ employees was wearing this thing. Brings back good memories. I think it took me like 30 box tops to get mine back in the day!

Watching HP5 with the kids. I think Dolores Umbridge is in the Top 10 best movie villains. Do you agree?

Sharing Trogdor with the Kids

For those of you who enjoyed Home Star Runner in its heyday, you can find them on YouTube. I’ve shared a few with my kids and they enjoyed Trogdor. My 12yo showed me this drawing today! 😂

A Wedding, Sports Teams & Dance Groups in Illinois, ~1940s or 1950s

We were going through the belongings of a deceased grandparent and found these. No notes and we don’t recognize any of the people, but cool photos, so thought I’d share with y’all.

I’m also a big fan of the Dune books. and I appreciate Star Wars for what it is, but the lack of stillsuits and sensitivity to evaporation on Jakku and Tatooine are driving me nuts!

What do y’all think? Does the lack of environmental details like this affect your immersion in sci fi universes? Or can you just suspend disbelief and blithely enjoy it?
