Is it just me or…

Do y’all also look at someone’s picture, think they’re attractive/ your type.. but then look at their eyes and decide to swipe No because they seem sinister or not a good person or something?

I had that with my ex and decided to go on the date and told myself that it’s dumb and I have to meet the person behind the profile. During our relationship I thought how silly it would’ve been if I hadn’t gone on the first date because his eyes looked a bit off to me. IRL he was so kind. But of course he’s an ex now and I think my gut was right 😅 as I started seeing a selfish side to him.

Is it just me? Dumb thing to judge someone for their eyes and can it tell us something?

Ask recruiters. Would you reject a ‘Director’ of their own business applying to corp jobs?

When I lost my job I wrote ‘director’ in my own (side) business to fill the CV gap, it’s in (lets call it) sector “2”, and I am applying to jobs in sectors 1 and 2.

I wonder if I should add something next to ‘director’, such as “portfolio manager/director” or something similar?

What would be your concern from seeing this on someone’s CV

When I lost my job I wrote ‘director’ in my own (side) business to fill the CV gap. It’s not in my main sector of expertise but I’m applying for roles both in this and in another industry(my main priority) .

I wonder if I should add something next to ‘director’, such as “portfolio manager/director” or something similar?

Asked for my availability and then no answer

Hiring manager asked me to provide my availability for a chat about my experience for the following 5 business days. I replied same day but after six hours and they haven’t replied and two of the days I provided had already passed. Was it my mistake for taking long to respond or has the hiring manager changed their mind?

Edit: it’s a senior role

Is the NPD mask true or not?

Prof Vaknin says studies suggest you can detect a narcissist within 30 seconds and that the mask narrative is only meant to protect/ sooth the ego of a fooled victim.

He argues it is cognitive dissonance that overrides it.

What is true? Is this a controversial opinion? Does it refer to overt narcissist only?

Is the mask a false story?

I was listening to Vaknin lecture where he says no studies support this idea that the narcissist was wearing a mask that slipped one day, and it’s a story that we tell ourselves because we want to feel comfortable about ourselves after we’ve been fooled by a NPD person.

He says studies suggest that you can detect a narcissist within 30 seconds of meeting them but it is cognitive dissonance that overrides it.

Coin drop

I feel like for the first time Mica & Samraj had a coin drop re why they have been in the bottom in every public vote.

I think Marth’s comment was on point- they like to preach but not practice.

Mica’s face was quite telling- “how am I coming across?” With a bit of a coin drop.

Now who are they going to send home …

Are they for real?

£2,000 for this tiny shoe box that doesn’t even have a properly shaped living area. I recall Southfields used to be one of these places where you can find a lovely ground floor maisonette with proper space and a large garden for £1,500. I get it we’re post covid, new RRA, etc etc… but… come on now..

And don’t get me started on the AI furniture staging.

Was Aidan’s comment tongue in cheek?

Aidan’s comment to Lorenzo and Samraj about Jasmine’s sister is quite telling re how he’ll be on the outside.

How could he say that when he’d just met Priya’s mum and sister… this guy is just 🤦🏻‍♀️

And I don’t know what annoys me more the fact he said that or the fact that Lorenzo and Samraj didn’t say anything.

Legal to raise price of rental before a viewing?

I was keen to view a property that was within my budget £1.6k and has what I need. Booked a viewing for this weekend. I now opened the ad again to find out the EA increased the price to 1,750 so nearly 10%. Are they allowed to do that?

I guess because tenants can’t offer more they perhaps got more interest than expected(?) and thought “let’s see who offers more now. “

Edit: called the EA who said the 1.6 was a typo.

Edit: his manager said a new employee accidentally put the old rent price.

Estate Agent acting shady to get asking offers only

With the new Tenants Act, agents now increase the price substantially. So, I started offering a bit less than asking. And many agents told me it's okay and sometimes guide you towards what is still acceptable to the landlord. This morning I called an agency in London and booked a viewing for two days from now, I revealed I have a dog- no issue, he said I will get an email confirmation.

Before hanging up the AE asked if I'm "ok with the price?" so I said I might offer somewhere between asking to -£200. Fully aware that the landlord doesn't have to accept my offer, that's fine.

He started mumbling saying they might have another property coming on the market that'll suit me better (tf?!), and became vague so I asked "is my viewing still booked for this flat?" he said yes, confirmed the exact time again and said I'll get an email confirmation shortly.

Surprise, Surprise! the email never came.I called the branch back at 15:15. Another guy, AE2, told me AE1 is out and he’ll call me back. I waited 1.5 hours. Nothing. I called a third time, AE2 told me AE1 is still not in the office yet, so I asked if I can speak with the manager, just to get put through to AE1 again. (shocking he just came in through the door)

When I finally got him on the phone and asked why he hadn't sent the confirmation, he tried to claim that he spoke to the landlord and they "want to prioritize viewings for people without a dog."..... issue is..... I had already fully disclosed the dog upfront before he confirmed the original booking. All of a sudden the dog is the issue?

It is blindingly obvious that the moment I mentioned offering a lower price, they decided to drop me, and used the dog as a convenient, retroactive excuse because they didn't have the spine to be transparent about the budget.

when I called AE1 out for ghosting me and being evasive, he completely flipped the script. He started tone-policing me, telling me I was being "rude" and using "very negative language" just for stating the facts of how poorly he handled this... I had no other way out of the conversation but to ask to speak to his manager, but I am not really expecting much... they're all made of the same material.

Cover letter- punchy or traditional?

Any HR folks here that can recommend what is really the best way to write a cover letter these days when HR and hiring managers probably see 30-50 each day. Would you say you prefer something original/ something short/ or you are so swamped that nothing can attract your attention anymore and you just focus on CV?

Kav brutally cold with Charleen

“It was lovely in the hideaway” was the peak for me, or perhaps the “sure I’ll take it on board” said cynically, with zero care for her feelings. I hadn’t seen that side to him dismissing other people’s feelings like that.

I really lost any appreciation I had for him I actually think Aidan is the better brother now.

He can crack on with his manipulative Jasmine.. they deserve each other.
