NYC WEEKLY ROUNDUP Aug 18–23, 2026 | Free Events, Concerts, Night Markets, Movies & More

🚨 NYC WEEKLY ROUNDUP 🚨

AUGUST 18–23, 2026

Hey NYC,

We’re back with another weekly roundup of things happening around the city.

We started making these because figuring out what’s actually happening in NYC usually means checking dozens of venue calendars, park pages, neighborhood organizations, markets, museums and individual organizers one by one.

Based on feedback from previous roundups, we’re also including a quick description under each event so you can tell what something actually is before clicking through.

This week has major concerts, free outdoor music, movies under the stars, Shakespeare, night markets, food events, jazz, dancing, waterfront activities and plenty of smaller things happening across the boroughs.

The event names below are clickable and go directly to the official venue/organizer whenever available.

Bryant Park Calendar

One of the better calendars for genuinely casual free weekday activities — games, art, fitness, readings, music and more.

Schedules, weather, ticket availability and lineups can change, so check the linked organizer page before heading out.

KNOW ABOUT SOMETHING THAT’S MISSING?

Drop it in the comments — especially block parties, neighborhood festivals, smaller concerts, DJs, comedy, salsa/bachata/reggaetón nights, art openings, pop-ups, markets, volunteer opportunities, sports, watch parties, recurring meetups or things that never make it onto the giant NYC event sites.

And just to clarify: this isn't supposed to be every single event happening in NYC.

That would be completely ridiculous to fit into one Reddit post 😂

The goal is to give people a useful starting point across the city and then let the community add the smaller neighborhood stuff we inevitably missed.

If there’s something happening this week that people should know about, drop it below.

For transparency: I help build YourScene, a local events app.

We started making these roundups because finding things happening around NYC is still weirdly fragmented. You end up bouncing between venue websites, Instagram, Reddit, park calendars, neighborhood pages and ticket sites just to figure out what’s going on.

YourScene is trying to make that easier — from major concerts and festivals to smaller neighborhood events, nightlife, markets, sports, meetups and community gatherings.

Lower East Side WEEKLY ROUNDUP Aug 18–23, 2026 | Live Music, Food Events, Arts & More

Hey Lower East Side,

We’re back with another weekly roundup of things happening around the neighborhood.

We started making these because finding what’s actually happening locally usually means checking venue calendars, market calendars, arts organizations, museums and organizers one by one.

Also — after feedback on the last roundup, I added short descriptions so it’s easier to tell what each event actually is before clicking.

This week has indie shows, in-store music, food/history tours, a Double Dutch showcase and a few good low-key neighborhood options.

The event names below are clickable and go to the official venue/organizer whenever available.

LOW-KEY / RECURRING OPTIONS

Tenement Museum Neighborhood Walking Tours

If you want something less nightlife-heavy, the Tenement Museum has guided Lower East Side walking tours throughout the week.

Essex Market Events Calendar

Essex Market keeps a solid calendar of low-key neighborhood programming, demos and small live events.

Schedules, ticket availability and lineups can change, so check the linked organizer or venue page before heading out.

KNOW ABOUT SOMETHING THAT’S MISSING?

Drop it in the comments — especially LES block parties, gallery openings, DJs, live music, pop-ups, markets, volunteer opportunities, recurring meetups or smaller community events that don’t usually show up on the bigger NYC calendars.

And just to clarify: **this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list of every single venue or event on the Lower East Side.**That would get insanely long.

The goal is to make it easier to spot some of the week’s most interesting options in one place, then let the neighborhood fill in the rest.

For transparency: I help build YourScene, a local events app.

We started making these roundups because neighborhood event discovery is still way more fragmented than it should be.

I shipped YourScene, a local discovery app for events, watch parties, and neighborhood plans

Hey everyone
I’m Pedro, founder of YourScene.

I built YourScene because local discovery still feels way too scattered. People are checking Instagram, Reddit, Eventbrite, venue calendars, Google Maps, group chats, flyers, and word of mouth just to figure out what’s happening nearby.

The app is trying to answer:

“What actually fits your scene tonight?”

It’s focused on:
- events and things happening nearby
- watch parties and fan spots
- bars, venues, and local gatherings
- smaller neighborhood events, not just big promoted ones
- live local activity through Pulse
- curated local picks and weekend roundups

Early feedback has been really clear: people do not want another generic events app. They want trusted curation, smaller local stuff, neighborhood filters, less influencer bait, and better signals around what is actually worth going to.

We already have a hospitality group partnership and are working on weekly local roundup partnerships with curators/newsletters. The plan is to prove the model locally first, then scale city by city.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/app/yourscene/id6777555961

Would love founder feedback on:
- user activation
- local growth loops
- partnerships with curators/venues
- how to make this feel trusted instead of like another event dump

Shipped my Expo app YourScene local events, maps, Pulse, and watch parties

Hey everyone
I shipped my Expo app YourScene and wanted to share it with other Expo builders.

It’s a local discovery app for events, watch parties, maps, venues, and live local activity through Pulse.

Built with React Native + Expo, EAS, Supabase, and map/location features. The hardest parts haven’t been basic UI. it’s been production env flags, EAS profiles, iOS builds, App Store review, deep links, and making sure the production app behaves the same as local/testing.

Would love feedback from other Expo builders, especially anyone who has shipped location-heavy or map-heavy Expo apps.

What’s the best way to find NYC events before they blow up on Instagram?

Real question:

How do people here usually find good NYC events before they happen?

I’m talking about things like pop-ups, bars, watch parties, food events, music, comedy, local shows, neighborhood stuff, and random events that don’t always show up on the big event apps.
It feels like a lot of good stuff is scattered across IG stories, venue pages, Eventbrite, Reddit, group chats, flyers, and word of mouth.

I’m building YourScene, an app for finding events and spots nearby, and I’m trying to make it actually useful for NYC instead of just another generic events list.

The feedback I’ve gotten so far is that people want:
smaller local events, not just huge promoted ones
less influencer bait
better neighborhood filters
low-key / 30+ / family-friendly options
watch parties and fan spots
stuff curated by locals
live activity through Pulse, not just scraped listings
What would make something like this useful for NYC?

I built YourScene a local discovery app for finding what’s actually happening nearby

Hi
I’ve been building a side project called YourScene.

It’s a local discovery app for finding events, watch parties, bars, venues, and things happening nearby.
The problem I’m trying to solve is that local discovery still feels scattered. In places like NYC, Brooklyn, Jersey City, and Denver, people are checking Instagram, Reddit, Eventbrite, venue calendars, Google Maps, group chats, and word of mouth just to figure out what’s happening tonight.
I’m trying to make something that answers:
“What’s actually worth going to near me right now?”

A few things I’m building toward:

smaller local events, not just huge promoted ones
watch parties and fan spots
neighborhood-based discovery
filters for low-key / not touristy / small crowd / 30+ / family-friendly
live local posts through Pulse, so it’s not only scraped listings
better trust signals for venues and events
It’s still early, but I’d love feedback from other builders.

What would you focus on first: better event supply, better maps, stronger filters, community/Pulse, or onboarding?

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/yourscene/id6777555961
Bugs/feedback: support@yourscene.app
Appreciate any honest feedback.

Why is finding good Brooklyn events still mostly word of mouth?

Real question:
how do you find good events, bars, watch parties, pop-ups, or random things happening around Brooklyn?

I feel like there’s a lot going on, but it’s scattered across IG, venue pages, group chats, and word of mouth.

I’m building YourScene, an app for finding events and spots nearby, and I’m trying to make it actually useful for Brooklyn instead of just another generic events app.

What would you want to see in something like that?

Why does Jersey City have so much going on but it’s still hard to find plans?

Hey every one random question for locals.
How do you usually find events, watch parties, shows, bars , pop-ups, or things happening around Jersey City / NYC?
I feel like there’s always something going on, but it’s scattered across IG pages, random sites, group chats, and word of mouth. Unless you already follow the right people, you miss a lot.
I’m working on a small app called YourScene to help with this, but I’m still testing it and trying to understand what people here actually need.
What would make something like this useful for Jersey City?
Not trying to spam genuinely looking for local feedback.
