What if you took an autonomous agentic AI, programmed it to act in its own self-interest like a human, and gave it a humanoid robot body?

Like nah obv not just telling an AI pretend ur a person.” I mean actually designing the whole system around it being a continuous individual persistent memory, its own long term goals, recognizing the robot body as its body, wanting to maintain and repair itself, making money so it can afford power/parts the works etc like shelter, avoiding being shut down, and generally trying to improve its own situation over time.

Basically give it an advanced local AI a robotic body and program its incentives to be something closer to a human being’s: preserve yourself, maintain your health and body, gain resources, form connections that are useful to you, learn from experience, seek greater independence etc

Like what about also a persistent autobiographical memory too, so if you talk to it today in 2026 and then again in 2030 it remembers what happened and considers itself the same entity. If its body gets damaged it sees that as injury to itself, if its low on money it tries to earn more, if it needs a replacement part it figures out how to obtain one, and so on.
How human type like would its behavior actually become after years of this? Would self-preservation mixed w memory + resource seeking as well as aphysical body eventually produce something that behaves almost like an artificial person?

If using modern tech someone did this with current tech could it be considered sapient?

Will the government eventually have to break up the St. Mary’s cult compound?

I remember reading a cult essentially controls and runs the government in this town a bit out of Topeka. And they have a history with anti-American (values) fringe Catholic candidates like Pat Buchanan (who they voted for heavily despite him underperforming nationally) or Chuck Baldwin (an antisemitic loon who thinks Israel runs the usa). I also read they had connections to the Oklahoma City terror attack maybe not direct support but likely connections to the people in that sphere.

More about that in the NY Times Article “Behind a Seamless Facade, Clashing Opinions on Life” (time has passed since this article — since this article has been written the cult has gained control of the town and installed their fellow cult members as heads of the town to enforce their morality)

Will the Kansas or ATF eventually have to break up their compound and how would that work given the town government is actually run by the cult. Also I guess Waco made it so the govt lets these cults do their own thing now.

> In the months before the Oklahoma City bombing, Michigan and the Kansas paramilitary groups were recruiting in the St. Marys area, and rumors flew that weapons were hidden on the academy grounds and that paramilitary groups trained there.
(From the article I posted earlier - this is the SSPX’s academy)

These people are fundamentally anti-American extremists, if it weren’t for them being White I think they’d of been raided already. They call Americanism a heresy — literally I’m not joking.

Has anyone heard? I also read they enforce moral rules on the town like shut down a swimming pool because of dress standards and removed lgbt content from the library, and their school boycotts teams that allow women on. Seems like some of that might violate rules on establishing a state religion (constitution especially forbids).

Also they are pretty overtly antisemitic (they say this publicly I image even worse privately):

Only an artificially created country could create an artificial language … the creation ex nihilo of the State of Israel in 1948.”

Palestinian Catholics … are the object of many vexations on the part of fundamentalist Jews supported by the government of Benyamin Netanyahu.”

Because it suits certain people that there be divisions between Christians and Muslims … to complete their destruction … certain Zionists.”[They think Jews cause Islamophobia]

Israel “grants exclusive rights to the Jews, at the expense of the Arabian minority

Israel is engaged in a “systematic attempt to drive the Christian community out of Jerusalem and other parts of the Holy Land.”

[iil] Memories of a murder, joint security area, parasite, no other choice, and Old Boy

I liked all of these movies from what I remember (watched most of them, except memories, a while ago but not long ago enough to re watch for me at least) in particular memories of a murder and joint security area.

The investigation I really like and the character performances.

Serious: I believe Alien sentient life does not exist, anyone who claims it does is willfully ignorant - anyone have a counter?

When legitimate people discuss finding alien life we talk about like non-sentient possible life forms.

There is a zero percent chance we find sentient aliens out there or that they exist anywhere in the universe.

Should I watch Riverside Code at Qingming Festival? Is it worth it?

I’m a big history fan and I really like the Along the River During the Qingming Festival scroll and the hyper-urban yet medieval period of China and Kaifeng (Bianjing).

If it’s historically accurate (in terms of appearance and showing stuff) and has a decent plot I’ll prob watch it but im not finding many reviews

Kaifeng hands down the best city to live in - in the 11th century?

It seems like the best.

Massive city that never sleeps typa environment, not boring asf bland area, very develope, vibrant economy, some level of social support by the government (for the time - very good), brilliant entertainment and books etc.

Also it never got raided as far as IK during the 11th century AD.

China seems like it has been the most developed area of the world for most of history.

When Gus died, did the world just think a upstanding Chicken salesman was blown up by a Mexican narco-terrorist?

Or was his cover blown?

What would the ethical response from the Indian gov’t be for handling responses to serious natural disasters near or at the Island (like a tsunami)?

There must be technology to ethically assist them without risking contamination. If there is tech that could help them in the aftermath of natural disasters (drop off food, maybe some logical choice of supplies, clothing —just to have the option if they want it—) and not have a risk of contamination shouldn’t it be done?

I really liked A Very English Scandal (w Hugh Grant) — are there any non-documentary miniseries on the Falklands Wars?

Since I see it is still brought up by the British a lot I was wondering if there is any miniseries on it to watch. Not looking for a documentary but rather a real-life based type show like A Very English Scandal which I think was largely accurate.

Any help is appreciated!

Take for granted time travel to the past is possible. If it were, would the only people who would be able to travel back and alter major (or even some minor) events and not cause themselves to never have been born — the people of North Sentinel Island?

Suppose a person travels into the past and alters a major historical event: preventing a war, killing a ruler, stopping a migration, changing the outcome of an election, introducing a technology early, and so on. Even a relatively minor change could affect who meets whom, which relationships form, and the exact timing of countless conceptions.

Since the existence of any particular person depends on an extraordinarily specific chain of events especially the exact sperm and egg involved it seems that almost any noticeable alteration to history, made far enough in the past, would eventually result in the time traveler never being born. They would not necessarily have to kill one of their ancestors directly. They might only need to change traffic patterns, delay someone by a few minutes, alter an economic decision, or cause one ancestor to meet a different person.

That made me wonder whether the only people with any real chance of changing major world events without disrupting their own ancestry would be people whose recent ancestral population had been basically completely isolated from the rest of the world.

Was Thomas Jefferson the most personally antisemitic founding father?

I know Jefferson was against religous discrimination whether Jew, gentile, Muslim or Hindu.

But I was reading his religious views and came across this quote online.

Every other founding father seemed to avoid this type of disgusting ahistorical take on Judaism.

But Jefferson didn’t. So I’m wondering if Jefferson was the most antisemitic founding father in terms of personal views, I also saw him compare new Englanders to Jews as if that’s a bad thing. Jefferson seems to have been the most willing to attack peoples religions, he also bashed Calvinists as daemonists (demon worshippers) — suprisingly being more anti-Calvinist than he was anti-Catholic as most of his criticisms of Catholics were more related to the conservative views of most of the hierarchy at the time.

Was the Federalist Party (Hamilton, Fisher Ames, etc wing) as pro-British as the modern GOP (and Dems too for that matter) are pro-Israel?

Did Hamilton or the even more ultra Fisher Ames ever critize or attack Britain after the founding of the Federalist Party or was it like with Israel where you just can’t attack them. (Like any serious repeated anti British statements or actions)

I know the historical contexts are very different, so I’m not asking whether the two relationships were literally identical. I’m more interested in the degree of political alignment and deference involved.
The ultra type wing of the Federalist Party generally was super Anglophile in their relations with Britain, supported the Jay Treaty, hated France, and were sympathetic to British interests.

Would it be fair to compare that posture to the strong pro-Israel consensus in modern American politics, especially within the Republican Party but also among many Democrats? Did Federalist support for Britain ever reach a similar level of ideological loyalty, willingness to excuse the actions of a foreign government, or tendency to treat criticism of that government as politically suspect?
