Let there be carnage

Let there be carnage

I just got a new (used) pedal, and here comes the joy of seeing how everything plays well with others. It's just easier to disconnect everything and start from scratch.

What Would You Get Rid of? What Would You Pick Up?

So, I'm finding myself in a bit of a dilemma. After years of stagnation since getting back to playing, I went a little overdrive crazy. I actually had a plan, and it was a good one. I was pretty unhappy with the reverb on my Keeley Caverns v2, but I'd make do until my overdrive section was handled. I was going to pick up several, choose two, maybe three, and trade for an upgrade with reverb. Well, since the creation of said plan I both really started dialing in the Caverns, and it's pretty great, and I've really fallen for my overdrive pedals. It would suck getting rid of any of them. The thing is, two pair are incredibly similar to each other. I haven't tried a Lightspeed, but it's safe to say it's similar to the Timmy, and of course the TS-9 is similar to the TS-808.

So, currently I have

1993-1995 Ibanez TS-9 Reissue, in ridiculously clean condition

40th Anniversary Ibanez TS-808 with Analogman True Vintage mods using a TL4558P op amp

Wampler Tumnus Deluxe

Timmy v2

And a Lightspeed that will soon be enroute to me

I genuinely wouldn't want to get rid of my Tumnus Deluxe. I really like it much more than I thought I would. Regarding my Timmy or the Lightspeed, of course I'll keep what I like best in the end. I'm still open to reverb, it's just not the dire emergency at all anymore.

As you can see by the pedals I recently purchased, they were all within the last couple months, there's nothing cutting edge. I like tried and true, but I'd also love to learn what's new and exciting.

So, what would you dump on my board, and what would you try to trade for it?

Celestion Gold into an Orange Rocker 15

I finally got around to moving my Celestion Gold into my Rocker 15. Previously it was in a cabinet. It's a tight fit, but it fit. I was worried it may not.

If you are considering an alnico based speaker, it costs a little more but it's worth it.

Done! Have At It!

Okay, I would like to step up my reverb, unfortunately my mind is willing but my wallet is weak.

Both Tube Screamers were delivered this week.

Unfortunately my One Spot Daisy Chain has been making a lot of noise lately, so back to 9-volts for a while. Bye bye mini-pedals.

N(u)PD: 40th Anniversary Ibanez TS-808 with Analogman True Vintage mods

Okay, while I know it's about the sound, come freaking on, this thing is the prettiest pedal I've ever seen!

Right now I only have a Behringer TO800 Tube Overdrive to compare it to.

I had my Orange Rocker 15 set to 1-watt so I could get to the edge of breakup without pissing off my dog too much. I was playing my Tele.

The TS-808 sounded fantastic, as did the TO800. In fact, when playing chords the TO800 absolutely nailed it. It sounded exactly like my TS-808. The difference lied in notes. Notes, especially when mixed into chords were definitely clearer, brighter, and smoother. I do want to say, not by much. It is noticeable, but I don't think I would be upset staying with my Behringer.

I have a used TS-9 in route. When I get it, I'll do a serious deep dive with the 3 pedals.

While I don't have a stock TS-808 to compare it to, Analogman did a great job with it. The True Vintage mod with a TL4558P amp definitely gave me a smooth experience. I really am excited to get my TS-9.

SoTB + N(u)PD 40th Anniversary Ibanez TS-808 with Analogman True Vintage mods

I am hesitant to post my board because I have another pedal in route, but this is the best my board ever looked.

First, my TS-808, it's even more freaking better looking in person! How does it compare to my Behringer TO800? I was very nervous at first. When playing chords, the Behringer nails it. The folk at Behringer really did an amazing job considering the price. The difference lies when playing notes, especially mixed in with chords. The TS-808 definitely outclassed it. The notes run out clearer, brighter, and smoother. Still, not by a lot. I was very happy with my Behringer for years, I have two of their other pedals. It really is close. I didn't go too into depth. I have a TS-9 on the way and I really want to go into it then.

Analogman seemed to do a great job. I don't have a stock TS-808 for comparison, but I am very happy. The amp was replaced with a TL4558P, which according to his history of Tube Screamers was very rarely used on the original models.

Now onto the board

Guitar into Behringer TO800, which will most likely leave the board among the arrival of my TS-9. I may get the TS-9 modded?

Into Pigtronix Distnortion, which will most likely go until I get a power supply sorted. I'm going to switch to batteries for the time being. I'm currently using a 1 Spot Daisy Chain, and there's too much noise.

Into Analogman Sunface BART, my favorite pedal.

Into Ibanez TS-808

Into front of amp

Effects Loop send into Behringer EQ700, a very solid eq. I've owned a BOSS GE-7, and it has some nice features over the Behringer, but when it comes to functionality, the Behringer is a great option.

Into Behringer UC200, I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'm very happy with it.

Into Keeley Caverns, I've had this a few weeks, I traded my Keeley Compressor Plus for it. Regarding just spring reverb and delay, I would call it good enough. The delay goes to my happy place. Where this pedal becomes great to me is the reverb and delay don't mess with the guitar tone at all. It's a bit weird. The mod function in the reverb is cool as hell, but the shimmer is glorious.

Into Donner Echo Square, another really good cheap pedal. Unfortunately, no 9-volt so not long for the board.

Into Effects Loop return

I think I finally have to ask, what the hell is "shoegaze?"

I guess I'm old and a bit out of touch, but I can't figure it out. Is it a term for a guitarist that has and uses so many spacy pedals they gaze at their shoes when playing? Is it a genre of music that's very effects oriented? Is it something else?

I can't possibly be the only old dude here who really wants to know.

Thanks!

MIJ Fender Jaguar

I no longer own this guitar, but thought some might like to see. I no longer have access to my old photobucket account, but found the pic from a very old post I made on a Tele forum.

Custom Amp Stand With Built In Pedal Board

Unfortunately I no longer have this stand, or anything in this picture except the pedal board in the background. It was made by Atlas Amp Stands. It has a Furman Power Conditioner in the Rack Space. I traded it for my Analogman Sunface BART.

The board folds in with the pedals for on the go.

SoTB: It's getting there edition

After 7+ years off guitar I got back a little over 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I'm disabled and on a very tight fixed income, but i had a couple amp stands I was able to trade for my Analogman Sunface BART and a Keeley Compressor Plus (which i just traded for my Keeley Caverns), and i picked up my Behringer Tube Overdrive, and for a couple years I was completely satisfied with those three pedals and my Monoprice Stage Right 5w. Last year I got REALLY REALLY sick, and I went a little nuts buying amps, inexpensive pedals, and weed vaporizers.

My Pigtronix, Analogman, and Tube Overdrive go in the front of my amp. My eq, chorus, and Caverns go in the effects loop. My Echo Square is going back, until I can get a Carbon Copy. I would like to pick up a Holy Grail or Neunaber Wet. The Caverns is very cool for the modulated reverb and especially the shimmer, but the spring reverb isn't impressive. I would like a couple more Behringer EQ700s, one to go in front of my Sunface (it gets crazy fuzz with the eq), and one dedicated to the dirty channel. One day I'll probably replace my old Damage Control Solid Metal. Don't really need it, like i don't need a shimmer, but it's a wicked pedal!

The pedal board was a gift from Atlas Amp Stands.

My Second Speaker Is Finally Ordered

To start, I love my Rocker 15. It's my second Orange. I previously owned an OR-15 years ago. Anyway, once I replaced the original speaker with a Celestion Creamback, it was awesome. Once I hooked it up to the stack, it's my favorite amp I've ever played through.

I've had the Creamback on the top cabinet, and my Voice of the World in the bottom cabinet. It sounds phenomenal, but i couldn't help myself. I ordered a Celestion Gold. I should have it Saturday, pretty excited.

I was originally going to mini-stack my Marshall, and just get another cabinet to stack with my Rocker 15, but screw it. The Lil Marshalls are great. They're from an 84 Lead 12. They were made in England and constructed from birch.

Instead of computer class, we had

Oh the joy of 26 spaces, three x's, and some dashes here and there. I still remember having to type the Ray Kroc story in typing class.

New (used) Marshall Mini-Stack Cabs Day

After a great trade + $$$, with a really cool dude, I was able to complete my dream of having a DSL1 Mini-Stack. I am not digging the speakers, so they will eventually be replaced. I also need a speaker cable rigged up for it. Still, I'm freaking close.

In the meantime, I connected the bottom cabinet to my Rocker 15. My Rocker 15 has a Celestion Creamback that I put in there a few days ago. I love it.

Right now I'm leaning to a big speaker swap. I'm leaning to replacing the Creamback in the Orange with it's original speaker. Then putting the Creamback into one of the cabinets. If I want to play one amp at a time, I can swap cabinets. If I want to play them in stereo, it will sound great even with the Voice of the World speaker back in the Orange. Also, I REALLY want to hear the Marshall through a Creamback.

I didn't know until after the trade was agreed to, but I'm pretty sure these cabinets were made in the UK, and I'm guessing birch plywood? I could be wrong. It would definitely be cool. The owner told me these were off an 80s Lead 12 and I believe him.

My Marshall stack of doom

I just got the stack. Originally from an 80s Lead 12. The speakers are original, but incredibly bright. Until I can get a speaker cable rigged for a Y and to adjust for ohms, the bottom cabinet is hooked up to my Orange Rocker 15.

Midnight Movies, yay or nay?

Absolutely yay for me. I stayed up late and saw a lot of awesome movies starting at midnight. Of course there was The Rocky Horror Picture Show, there was also The Song Remains the Same, The Wall, Tommy, Dune. These were old movies, even for then lol, so admission was cheap.

Anyway, I miss them. By "miss them", I am speaking more of a nostalgic "wouldn't that be nice", versus actually wanting to go. No way in hell I'm out of bed past midnight, lol.

Rocker 15 Speaker Replacement

Hello all, so I recently got a Rocker 15 combo, and I want to upgrade the speaker. I was listening to the usual suspects, Greenback, Creamback, V30 mostly, but then I got pretty blown away with the Celestion Gold. Has anyone tried it in their Rocker? It's a pretty big investment. It would almost cost as much as a Monoprice 1x12 loaded with a V30. Basically, is there a reason why I never see the Celestion Gold (or Blue) in the conversation?

Anyone else kind of surprised they're still kicking?

I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding concern for aging parents, and I'm still surprised by it. I guess I'm older Gen X, born in 1968, and lost my parents years ago. Anyway, am I alone in being concerned about us dying?

I just really can't believe I'm still alive. I've had the normal chiropractic type surgeries, and was dealing with Type 2 Diabetes through the years, but nothing really crazy. Ten years ago, or so, life just seems to keep trying to kill me. Thankfully through providence and amazing proactive medical care, I've f'ing survived! I've had cancer, kicked it. It wasn't even normal cancer. I had a chondrosarcoma in my left knee. It was my 11th knee surgery. I've had a heart attack. F U heart attack, I didn't even know i had it until revealed by a chemical stress test. I've had a severe bone infection leading to the amputation of my left big toe. I think that was the closest I was to dying. It was really really bad. I was hit by a car while on my Vespa. I'm Gen X so naturally I was only wearing a t-shirt, shorts, slip-on sneakers, and sunglasses. Yup, lucky, but damn I had a lot of road rash. Oh, just diagnosed with F3 liver fibrosis. The number is very close to cirrhosis. I can't get off blood thinners, so I can't get a biopsy. Fingers crossed on that one. Oh, I may have a mass in my gallbladder too, lol. Hoping it is just sludge. I should have a better idea next month.

Anyway, anyone else who just seems to somehow survive?

On the bright side I buy myself something nice and shiny. Over the last year I bought 3 dry herb vaporizers, and 3 guitar amps, lol. Now that I think about it, I got my Tele after I was hit by a car, and another guitar amp after recovering from my chondrosarcoma removal surgery.

My amps through the years

Over the years I went through a lot of gear. These are the amps. There were probably others I've forgotten about. Some I loved. Some I hated. Most I liked. Anyway, if you have any interest in any of these amps and have questions, ask away.

I never gigged, but through the years I regularly jammed with other guitarists, and full on band ensembles in basements.

Long hospital/rehab stay

hello everyone

I have a 30% rating, 10% each knee, 10% one foot, 0% the other foot.

Last year I had a severe bone infection leading to the amputation of my left big toe. I spent 20 days at VA Hospital, and then per their recommendation and arrangement spent another 10 days in a private rehab facility where I was primarily there to get iv antibiotics until arrangements could be made so I could receive them at home. Also, the people who evaluated me didn't think I could function on my own yet.

If it makes any difference, I was also admitted for 3 days about 9 or 10 days prior. I was admitted for uncontrolled blood sugar, but an argument could be made it was out of control due to the still undiagnosed bone infection in a service connected foot.

it is my understanding that a veteran would need to be at a hospital, or va approved hospital for over 21 days for that veteran to be eligible for a temporary 100% rating while hospitalized. Would there be a chance I would be eligible for this?

thank you
