Head canon on the mods from the Book of Boba Fett

I love the mods from the BOBF. I’d really like to see more of their backstory in canon. Because their backstory is a blank space I have this idea for later in my fanfic that the parents of the mods were active rebel operatives, loyal to the values of the old republic that were all killed by the empire leaving their children stranded and orphaned on Tatooine at young ages with no one but each other, with most of the orphaned having been raised together, to depend on. The parents raised the mods with the values of the rebels and the old republic. Their fear of not being seen is a result of their being orphaned on the dusty colourless world of Tatooine with no way off to aid the rebels. The planet and its environment is a smaller and more manageable target to strike out against than the empire at large.

This, Tatooine’s complicity with the empire and its remaining loyalists & their fear of not being seen against the bleak backdrop of Tatooine is their motivation for their cybernetic enhancements. They want to fight the empire and its remnants but since they have no way off Tatooine they strike out against the planet’s environment via the cybernetics and the harsh reality of surviving on Tatooine through the theft of the wealthy who are ripping people off like the water monger

Does anyone else think that attack of the clones gets hate for doing exactly what it was supposed to do? [slight rant]

The biggest complaint I hear is that Hayden’s acting is wooden and stilted and George Lucas gets blamed for it because he’s supposedly wasn’t a good director. The way I read Anakin as a character is heavily emotionally suppressed, traumatized and unsure of how to express himself in a normal social situation completely outside of the Jedi order.

Not to mention Padmé was a senator so there was a certain level of decorum that Anakin would have been instructed to follow and he didn’t know where the balance was between talking with the professionalism of a Jedi, the formality of speaking to a senator, the casualness of talking to an old friend and the nervous excitement of trying to impress your crush.
And he was not equipped on how to strike that balance. This is a man with a painful past who’s been taught to suppress and ignore that past by an order that tells him that his core values are wrong and what he wants out of life, to be able to love freely and openly, is sinful.

He’s internally stuck between what he’s been taught and has to abide by for his career and what he truly believes and wants. I think Hayden did a wonderful job of showing Anakin’s internal conflict through his delivery of the dialogue and his body language and facial expressions. Anakin doesn’t need to say or think “I’m conflicted” because it’s written all over him in the delivery of the character. And it was all the point of the delivery. The stilted, wooden dialogue is the point in portraying a heavily conflicted man who’s been taught emotions compromise his ability to be a good Jedi

Calling all readers of fanfic. Which story experience(s) do you prefer?

  1. Solving the mystery as you read the story?
  2. Knowing everything before the characters do?
  3. Being a step or two ahead of the characters but still having something to solve?

I’m just now realizing that just about every villain in the Star Wars universe besides Palpatine has some kind of tragic backstory and i both love it and hate it

Dear Star Wars,
Please stop making me feel sorry for the villains! (But please don’t)

Vader destroyed everything he loved and lost his wife and was manipulated into believing he killed her and his unborn child.
Dooku lost his apprentice and grew disillusioned with the Jedi because he saw them as corrupt, rigid, complicit in a system that he saw it as not working and becoming too involved with the bureaucrats.
In the expanded universe >!Grievous was a kaleesh warrior named Qymaen jal Sheelal who bonded with a fellow warrior during a conflict with an enemy clan against his people and she died in the conflict and then he changed his name to Grievous to symbolize that he would grieve her forever. And then to worsen matters dooku and palpatine bombed his ship which resulted in his body being broken beyond repair and the need for him to become a cyborg to live and dooku and palpatine blaming the bombings on the Jedi. All because they needed a general for the separatist droid army!<

Palpatine is the biggest one I’ve come across so far that is rotten to the core with no redeeming qualities

Would you read an unfinished ongoing fic if the author was consistent with updates about what’s going on in their life? (Work, school, family demands etc) Or if the fic required an extensive amount of research and planning?

And the author was transparent about their life or their research and planning?

I’m noticing something that I didn’t plan for as I write my fanfic

I’m noticing that the more I plot this canon divergent scenario for Anakin that I’m actually deconstructing him as a character. Both the psychology enthusiast and the Star Wars fan in me are geeking out every time I do deep dives into his trauma and insecurities. I’ve always loved the Star Wars what if videos on YouTube but I never thought I would do anything like it. My research on Anakin’s unique psychology profile has lead to some surprising conclusions on what could’ve been different if completely new variables had been introduced that essentially makes his outward facing canon and legends volatility impossible, creating a new drive to tame it and allowing the traumas and insecurities to take a new form

The acolyte deserves none of the hate it gets

This show leaves its viewers with the exact roadmap and reason for the prequel era Jedi order is as rigid and traditionalist as they are and explains why Yoda was vehemently against training Anakin ***because*** of his age. Osha and Mae were around the same age as Anakin was when he joined the order during the Brendok fire that destroyed their home. All of the prequel era rigidity can be traced back to the actions of Sol, Indara, Kelnacca and Torbin and the coverup by Vernestra after the four died

How I became a Star Wars fan

All of my life I have had this chafing against anything that was so popular that everyone knew exactly what it was and where it was from without being a fan. I have always hated the idea of looking something because everyone else likes it. Where’s the originality in that? Star Wars was one of those things where you knew who Darth Vader and Yoda were and you were familiar with the iconic breathing and Yoda’s unique syntax even if you’d never seen the movies. As a result I actively avoided Star Wars for most of my life. I did not watch the movies. I avoided anything related to the franchise and even went out of my way to avoid watching parodies of Star Wars for shows I enjoyed (Family Guy, Phineas and Ferb). Fast forward through more avoidance.

After a few traumatic experiences with people in general I decided to try dating again. I met someone online who was a Star Wars fan. I told him that I was not because it’s just too popular and that the Star Wars fans that I’d met were actual jerks who couldn’t stand anyone having an opinion on the franchise that wasn’t a positive one (I got my head bitten off because I’d said to these guys that Star Wars was getting old and by this point The Force Awakens was releasing in theaters). He understood and wanted to watch the movies with me at some point but he didn’t pressure me to enjoy it. He’s also a gamer. I got a ps4 so i could play online games with him.

Fortnite was another one of those things that was maddeningly popular. I’d tried it on mobile when it was first on mobile app stores but i could not get interested in it for the life of me. I came to enjoy playing the game on the ps4 and ps5 later. Two years ago roughly One of the battle pass events was a Star Wars themed one. I didn’t see myself enjoying it at all but enjoyed battling with lightsabers and blasters in Battle Royale. This inspired me to look up what if videos on YouTube (what if Qui Gon trained Anakin? What if Anakin had left with Padmé? What if Padmé joined Anakin? Etc) i found an intriguing video by the channel Cinema Therapy with Alan Seawright and Jonathan Decker.

These in combination piqued my curiosity so i decided to watch the original trilogy. But it didn’t satisfy my curiosity. Now that I knew the what I wanted to know how we got here so I watched the prequel trilogy. This is where my love of complex characters and psychology collided in the most epic way.

Anakin is a fascinating character to watch and dissect even if the ending of his story remains the same in either trilogy. A man with deep trauma who wants to be good and be seen as a hero but is constantly getting in his own way. Then his paranoia ramps up and he turns desperate to save the one he fears will die without his direct intervention. He does monstrous things for the power he believes will save her not realizing because he’s so entrenched in the dark side and the trauma that leads him there that he’s hurting the one he wants to save. He has a flash of clarity and then his rage reignites and he turns it on his best friend. The best friend beats him in a duel that takes his arms and legs and burns his body beyond function. All of Vaders time in the suit is spent turning his self loathing and blaming himself for what he’s done and what he’s become into dark side fuel for his rage.

In the end I learned that Star Wars isn’t just another maddeningly popular pop culture staple but the story of a tragic hero who lost sight of who he wanted to be. If the story of a traumatized human being who needed healing all along and although he did horrible things was never evil for the sake of being evil or power for its own sake. He turns fully because he has nothing else to live for and he knows it’s his own fault. The only thing that redeems him is what he needed all along. Unconditional love. Star Wars is the story of the tragedy that is the human struggle and how we break out of that struggle. My only regret is not figuring this out until I was 31

This is an all inclusive space

I’ve noticed a lot of subs on Reddit that have mods that are very gatekeeper like in their enforcement of the rules of and their respective Subs. I wanted to create a place where everyone can share freely without having their posts deleted with a short message of “this doesn’t belong here. Delete” with no guidance and support for new users who are unfamiliar with how the system and subs work or who looked at the rules of the sub and the rules weren’t clear as to what is supposed to go where. I designed this sub and my other subs to be as easy to use as possible and to be appropriate for all ages. If something doesn’t belong on this sub or in a specific flair I will ask you to remove the post yourself and repost with the correct tag and/or guide you on where it might be a better fit. My goal with my subs is community building. Not gatekeeping 😊

Thoughts on the idea of the mods from BOBF? I thought they were a really cool addition to our favorite galaxy

For me the only thing that was missing from the larger Star Wars galaxy was a youth rebellion movement. I think the mods add this to the Galaxy. I understand them not wanting to fade into the beige background of Tatooine even if I have some reservations on the way they went about standing out

Did anyone see themselves as a Boba Fett fan before watching the show? For me Boba Fett was not a character that intrigued me at all until I watched The Book of Boba Fett. Now I am a Boba Fett fan

Boba Fett was not a character that piqued my interest at all until the show. In the original trilogy he felt more like a plot device than a character. Designed specifically to give Vader the info about the pilot who blew up the Death Star. Only the prequel trilogy before his own show gave us some insight into him. And only that he was a clone of Jango Fett and after Jango dies Boba takes on his fathers bounty hunting legacy and Jango’s Mandalorian armor

Any one else more of an intuitive plot as you go writer? I struggle hard with outlining.

New ideas seem to form out of a will of their own. It’s almost like the story has a mind of its own and I’m just the one doing the physical writing. It doesn’t help that Star Wars is a massive universe with endless possibilities for storytelling. Love every single second of being a Star Wars fan and Star Wars fanfic writer though!
