Would you get rid of these to get the Complete Kubrick set?

I’ve heard that most of the transfers are the same ones on these sets, so it would really just be for upgrading Spartacus and Strangelove to 4K, completing my collection, and getting the bonus content (which I’d have to get a region free blu ray player for also). This edition of The Shining includes both cuts but only the extended cut on 4K. Barry Lyndon has no extras and Eyes Wide Shut has very few, but it’s a nice steelbook. The Criterion Strangelove, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket have really nice collectibles with them, but if I was gonna get the box set I’d have to sell these to fund it and to make space. I’d be importing it from the US which also isn’t cheap.

I can’t make my mind up. There’s things I want in the set but even when it goes on the 50% sale it’s not going to be a cheap endeavour with importing and a region free player.

If you were in my position what would you do?

Looking for a restaurant for our anniversary on Tuesday

Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are celebrating our first anniversary on Tuesday, we’re going to spend the day in Rhodes town and are looking for a restaurant with a view, hopefully for the sunset. Looking for somewhere reasonably nice, but not crazy fine-dining, we don’t really have that kind of money! Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

I’ve enjoyed every second of seeing this film over the summer and loved the opportunity to visit so many cinemas ✌️

Anyone just been to the Limitless screening of Oak Street?

I thought it was fine but nothing special. Would have liked it to be scarier.

Look in horror upon my collection organisation

I used to have everything alphabetical with 4K and Blu-Ray separate but I thought I’d try something different to make it easier to find what I’m in the mood for.

Top 2 shelves are for directors who I have three or more of their films. Directors sections are in release order, other sections are alphabetical.

Then it goes:

- Cult/Horror split into boutique labels and then studio releases

- Sci-Fi/Fantasy

- Action

- Western

- War/Historical

- Crime/Thriller

- Documentary/Music

- Drama

- Comedy

- Family

- Comic Books/Superheroes

It had some challenges and awkward decisions to make, for example the Jurassic Park trilogy set is in the Spielberg section despite one of them not being directed by him, and Blade Runner 2049 is with the other Villeneuve films but the original Blade Runner is in the Sci-Fi section. All in all though I have found it easier to find the genre I’m in the mood for. I’m sure there are some errors or improvements to be made here and there, please point them out if you see them.

Now I have the two odyssey strips on the way, I think I have enough film cells to think about displaying them. They’re all quite different in their presentation though. Any advice on how to have all of these displayed nicely, ideally backlit?

I messed up and did two separate orders so I’ve paid international shipping twice, but I’m happy that I at least get both variants!

BFI Saturday 5th

Hi all

Just went for BFI IMAX tickets for the new screenings on sale today. We got E31-32 for Saturday 5th September 23:59. If by some miracle anyone has seats for any other showing Friday 4th or Saturday 5th that they can’t attend I’d be keen to see about trading!

Comparison images from the new Eyes Wide Shut UK 4K steelbook and the Criterion 4K (First images are new WB steelbook, second are Criterion)

I can't find any information about the transfer on the disc but it looks to me like it's the same situation as the Barry Lyndon releases, same source transfer with different encodes. Images taken on LG OLED CX 55 on Sony UPB-X700 with Dolby Vision enabled. I think there are very slight differences with colour temperature, but they're almost identical to my eyes.

I know a lot of us are excited for the Complete Kubrick set, but this new Eyes Wide Shut UK steelbook arrived today, a couple of days earlier than its official release date. Excited to see how it looks compared to Criterion’s release, I’m not sure if it’s the same transfer or not

The image is slightly debossed into the picture frame on the cover which is a really nice touch I think

EDIT- I’ve made a separate post with comparison images

(Auto mod flagged this, to be clear this is not a sales post)

Sheffield IMAX seats

Hi everyone

My partner has gotten us tickets for The Odyssey on Tuesday at Sheffield Cineworld IMAX. My seat is L22. Has anyone been there and sat around there? Row L seems a little far back. Anyone got any insight?
