Why does switching to connectIPS require reselecting the bank, while the default fonepay option doesn't?

I noticed this across several Nepali mobile banking apps and wanted to understand if there's a technical reason behind it.

Here's what I observed:

Using the default transfer option (fonepay Direct):

- Recipient's bank is already selected.

- Account number is filled.

- Account holder's name is shown.

- You just enter the amount and transfer.

After switching to connectIPS:

- Account number stays.

- Account holder's name stays.

- But the recipient's bank is cleared, so you have to manually select it again.

(Attached screenshot for reference.)

On many banking apps, fonepay Direct starts charging Rs. 10 even for a Re. 1 transfer. connectIPS, on the other hand, is free for transfers below Rs. 500 and its fee typically tops out at Rs. 8.

Given that, it seems reasonable to ask why the lower-cost option requires additional user input.

So my question is:

- Is there a genuine technical limitation that prevents the app from retaining the bank when switching payment rails?

- Or is this simply how these apps have been designed?

I'm not accusing any bank or payment provider. I'm genuinely curious whether there's a technical, regulatory, or UX reason for this behavior.

Would love to hear from people working in banking, fintech, payment systems, or anyone who's noticed the same thing.
