AP Yi wasn't as strong as you thought...

I really want this skin back

TL;DR:

  • AP Master Yi was never the unbeatable and easy ("one-button") champion the community claimed he was. The real one-button threat of the past was Katarina.
  • The famous Penta Kill clips required a perfect setup: Yi needed a huge level advantage and relied on his team to engage and lower the enemies' health first to guarantee consecutive resets on his ability (Q). A single mistake in this sequence almost always resulted in his death.
  • The current Critical Strike build is much stronger and more consistent than AP Yi ever was. The terror of AP Master Yi was simply an exaggerated urban legend fueled mostly by people who didn't even play the champion.

_____________________________________________________

Watch the old clips more closely and you'll see a few points:

A- Every multi-kill by AP Master Yi was when he was 2 levels above most of his opponents and very strong.

B- Someone always dealt some damage and started the fight, leaving a target with less health.

Given these requirements, AP Yi's play, 99% of the time, goes like this:

1- He jumps with his Q on the lowest target, kills them, and deals a decent amount of damage to the others.

2- One of the targets who took damage was already low on health and takes the Q reset and dies as well; this Q hits the others again.

3- The others who took the second Q are left with around half their health, and AP Yi uses his third Q on the squishiest target, dealing even more damage to everyone, plus some basic attacks on this squishiest target (which isn't really that squishy) to secure the third kill.

4- Now there are two characters left that are a middle ground between damage and tank (more tanky like Jax or Irelia), but with something between 20 and 30% of Life. One more Q on the weakest target, followed by some basic attacks (this after meditating to recover health and waiting for the 2-second cooldown of Lich Bane)

5- The weakest target dies after 1 Q and two other basic attacks, leaving only the last target (who has already taken about 4 Qs by this point and survived them all)

6- This last target is usually a tank or some more resistant bruiser, like Garen. AP Yi lands one more Q and some basic attacks and finishes him off as well.

7- Penta Kill! It becomes a montage, goes to a list of clips in situations almost identical to this one, and everyone starts to think that AP Master Yi is just pressing Q several times in team fights.

See how a huge list of things needs to happen for Master Yi to get a PentaKill, or have a huge impact on a team fight. Note also that all of these things are necessary and the lack of one of them will probably result in a Double Kill with Master Yi dying (this after his entire team has died because he waited for everyone to jump first before jumping into the fight).

AP Master Yi is not as easy as he seems and is much weaker than he appears.

To be honest, the strongest Master Yi build currently is full critical, where you deal the damage of an AP Yi Q in three or two (sometimes one) basic attacks. But if that doesn't work, you'll still have the possibility of continuing to hit very quickly until the target dies.

Sure, I need to highlight the times when people really played very well, like Cowsep dodging key skills using Q, using W at the right time to neutralize damage, waiting for Lich Bane to return, leaving the fight at the right time with speed...

But these little things only guarantee success in a low percentage of plays where you might only get a Double Kill. In short: AP Master Yi was never the extraordinary problem everyone talked about. For me, the champion who really impacted the past with just one button was always Katarina with her absurd scaling R and damage to 4 simultaneous targets. AP Yi was just a myth, a legend of a forgotten community that didn't even play LoL anymore. And also, many people who talked about AP Yi hadn't even played him...

...I admit that I myself was one of those people who said these things in conversations until I saw THE TRUTH!

That being said: AP Yi wasn't as strong as you thought.

Garen received significant buffs in this League Classic patch.

https://preview.redd.it/m2h8ao1jnrkh1.png?width=2237&format=png&auto=webp&s=ac98046d4cf624a8d01e786b1d61e3a870f6837a

Garen currently works essentially like this in terms of gameplay:

1- In matchups where he has an advantage, he wins and takes advantage of it;

2- In matchups where he doesn't, he plays for sustain and holds on until he can leave the laning phase and make a difference with his ultimate.

However, currently in League Classic he is facing a major problem of not being able to maintain sustain in matchups he loses, and this is largely due to a bug in the Life Regeneration Quintessences granting half the regeneration. Fixed in this patch.

In addition, some matchups that he used to lose (like Gragas), will now be won thanks to the AD buffs.

What do you think of the patch? And for those who still play League Retail, do you find Garen stronger there?

Theory of why we never saw the version of Distant Sky sung by Giacomo Voli

Here's a version of Distant Sky that I made by piecing together parts of the version that was in a Rhapsody promotional video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BJrYZ5oxKU).

I have a theory that Staropoli preferred never to release it precisely because this song might be a reference to himself.

Look: Fabio Lione wrote most (if not all, I need to confirm) of the songs on Into The Legend. And he has already said that the title track is really like him talking to the band "Into the legend I will ride far away from this cold sea of lies...". Our vocalist has said in several interviews that things got pretty bad after Luca Turilli left and that for him, Into The Legend was, from the beginning, his last work with Rhapsody.

Considering this, we can analyze the lyrics of Distant Sky, especially the end of the song: "Standing alone in a dream with no end, lets see how high you can fly my old friend". This particular part seems to be exactly something Lione himself would say to Alex Staropoli, because as he has said in some other interviews, one of the biggest problems with Rhapsody (and one of the reasons for Luca Turilli's departure) was the fact that Staropoli wanted to make another saga and stick to more of the same, while he and Luca wanted to do something different.

We saw the result of what Luca wanted to do in Luca Turilli's Rhapsody and those two masterpiece albums. And we also saw that Staropoli actually made another saga that is still going on today (The Nephelim's Empire Saga).

For these reasons, Staropoli (who until then knew nothing of this), may have noticed or discovered these little things that Lione left in the lyrics and preferred not to re-release "the song that speaks ill of himself"...

So, that's my theory xD

What do you think? Does the final part of Distant Sky also talk about Alex Staropoli? Is this the reason why we still don't have a complete version of Distant Sky sung by Giacomo Voli (since this version clearly exists but has never been released)?

What are you doing for Garen in Classic?

https://preview.redd.it/41p8s3d5hmih1.png?width=1215&format=png&auto=webp&s=4b18aa6849a7a9bcf14ca2f54906f21d4ab26cfe

I've been testing some builds for Garen in League Classic. I first tried the Full Tank build and it worked well. Then I tested it with Ravenous Hydra followed by Full Tank, which worked best because it had a lot of damage early on and then became very resistant.

The problem with this build is that if the lane is difficult, I can't win. I struggle against annoying champions like Tryndamere, Gangplank, or Cho'Gath.

Now I'm going to test a new variation: Phage, Sunfire Cape, a magic resistance item, then Guardian Angel, Trinity Force, and finishing with Warmog's Armor to see how it fits best.

[BUG REPORT] (again): It's not possible to remove the slow from Kayle's Q using abilities that do that (remove slow)

In this video I was playing Garen using Q (which removes slow). But it wasn't possible to remove it with Master Yi's ultimate either.

This is something that needs to be fixed urgently because it ends up greatly altering who has the advantage in certain matchups like this one.

I was forced to build the white boots because my skill wasn't doing what it was supposed to do...

I had already reported this during the PBE era, but it wasn't fixed.

I have to say I was worried...

https://preview.redd.it/acnp15ego6ih1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=c00cfe23534438772f986d777db30db7df332029

After Pobelter's conversation with Phreak and FeralPony, I became really worried about the possibility of Darius not being added to League Classic, which is the thing I've longed for most in the last 10 years. I really hate the current Darius as much as I hate League Retail.

The conversation left two things open:

- Maybe not all champions will be added, which could leave out champions like Darius, Thresh, Zed

- And still on Zed, I found it very strange that the next batch of champions will have "Assassins" as a theme and Zed was left out

What do you think?
I keep wondering if Darius is as popular as I think or if he's much lower than I imagine. I remember that at the time he was quite unpopular, as was Garen, and people only played him when they really wanted to win in lane or some joke with R R R R R...

And about Zed?
He's a 2012 champion, he came well before Yasuo and a little after Darius. Why didn't he come with the assassins? I can think of a few arguments; if they appear in the replies to this post, I can counter them.

A reference to Rhapsody?

I started listening to Ancient Bards and this seems like a very direct reference, which makes sense considering the dates and the type of music.

What do you think? Has anyone confirmed this?

Are the champion selection voice lines enabled for you?

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but it's something I didn't notice because I'm playing in Portuguese on the PBE.

Live S2S Arena microphone issuw

I'm having trouble with Live S2S Arena. I almost never manage to complete this task because I click to start speaking and the microphone button just keeps blinking, never activating for the model to start listening to me. Then, it starts reconnecting and puts me in the reconnection queue. I wait 2-3 minutes and the same problem happens again. I've already tried changing browsers, clearing all cookies, and starting with a completely clean and newly installed browser, but it still doesn't work. I'm frustrated because I start the task and don't complete anything. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution for this?

The feeling and the affection

All my friends who played League Classic described feeling the same way I did when I played for the first time: a good feeling, a sense of comfort (just like that scene in Ratatouille).

What I have to say about the feeling of playing League Classic is precisely this comfort, a feeling that life isn't rushing by and I can just relax.

Furthermore, the main thing I realized is that I'm no longer ashamed to say that I play LoL (in this case, League Classic).Retail is experiencing such a popularity crisis that, at least where I live and in gaming social circles, people find it shameful to play LoL or Valorant.

How has the reaction been from the people around you? Did you also feel "ashamed" to say you played LoL?

PS: I stopped playing LoL a few years ago and only came back because of League Classic.

How has your experience been with Garen in League Classic?

Masteries

Runes

At first I felt it was too weak, but that's because I was trying to do something more bruiser. After I started doing full tank runs, things got really interesting!

Old Garen is very strong, his only flaw is the lack of cooldown reduction, so, after studying some masteries and runes, I came up with a strategy. I just need more IP to buy all the runes and test them out xD

(repost because I think the image from the previous post scared people away)

Ultimately, League Classic will always be better than LoL Retail.

The truth, at least for me, is that modern League of Legends is SO BAD that it doesn't really matter how Riot is doing it. For me, it's still millions of times better!

The matches are really fun. I just went 2/9 against a full crit Sion, and even then I was having fun discovering new things and realizing how powerful Thornmail was.

Anyway, I think League Classic has enormous potential to be a huge success, and considering that Riot will allow the community to define the direction of the game, I already consider it halfway to that success.

What's your opinion on this?

Fields of Justice and old lore

One of the reasons I used to play League of Legends was precisely the story. What captivated me the most was playing Garen from Demacia and having fun facing Darius from Noxus, and eventually managing to execute him with Demacian Justice. I remember thinking something like, "At the worst moment of the battle, the Power of Demacia saved Garen and helped him triumph over Noxus!"

That was definitely the most fun thing for me in LoL, and I was very upset when they announced the changes to the story, the disappearance of the Institute of War, and everything else...

I don't know if they will bring the story back (and I ended up discovering that the "Warden" and "Marauder" skin lines are based exactly on this story of the Institute of War and the Summoners who summoned their champions to resolve political disputes on the Fields of Justice!).

With the advent of League Classic, what is your opinion on this old lore? Did you also get lost in the lore of the champions and the story of the game even during matches?

With League Classic announced, what are you most excited to do with Darius?

https://preview.redd.it/db9ytx0nzw9h1.png?width=1215&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7d447d5a0cc32916e734480a5fe64cb500672de

Two years ago, I made a post expressing my deep dissatisfaction with LoL, saying I was going to uninstall the game and never come back. I even remember people saying they "expected to see me back in two weeks"...

I genuinely didn't return, but the announcement of League Classic has reignited a spark of hope for what I consider one of the best and most fun versions of Darius—a time when he was balanced (neither overpowered like during the Juggernaut update nor too weak, as he is now).

That said, the question arises: what else do they plan to do with Darius in League Classic?

As a Darius one-trick since 2013, I really want to try out my old Phage + Full Tank build again, the one that used to dominate Solo Queue back in the day!
