Would rulers fight on the front lines?

A while ago I made post about how in Kingmaker I didn't like it how the players are well doing most of the fighting when they should be sending armies to do it for them

One of the comments made the point that in medieval ages rulers had to be warriors.

Which got me thinking, would that be true for Golarion?

The reason people stopped leading from the front was guns getting better, after all the morale boost of your king fighting beside you is not that good compered to if some dude in a bush no one saw snipes him.

And well in pathfinder magic does fulfill a similar roll as guns do. (I know guns exist but they are not widespread) So wouldn't rulers stay away from battle as the moment they do wouldn't they be hit with 50 fireballs and 20 magic missiles?

Looking for some feedback on my campaign set up

Do I plan on running a game soonish using a hack I made for GURPS (it was genuinely easier to learn gurps then shadowrun hacking holy shit) and I wanted to see what the great sages of reddit could add to it.

The base idea is that the party are runners in a small oasis of civilization in the barrens, a community that grew around a gang mainly concerned with smuggling. The leader of which is the group's fixer.

The point of the game really is to develop their little town if for no other reason then self interest as they live here with the runs usually focusing on getting something that the players can benefit from within the neighborhood.

Like for example getting medical gear so that the chop shop can give them better cyberware.

Looking for ideas on how to alter Kingmaker

So I really love the Kingmaker video game and I do like the general lore of Golarion but I plan on using a different system (Gurps) mainly because well I prefer that system. However while I am tweaking the adventure path (since I will use it a for completely different system) there is one more element that I want to tweak, the dungeon delving.

While I do like how both in the video game and the module the players can do stuff like hiring adventurers to scout for monster lairs and such, it doesn't really make sense for me that the PCs being rulers, would themselves go into the dungons?

Or at least not without bringing a chunk of their army with them since well it's theirs.

Why would the ruing council or whatever the pcs will form into all go into a troll lair and just supervise the army as they do it?

So yeah, do you guys think it's possible to rework Kingmaker into a more manegerial/political focus? Or should I just give up and make up a completely new premise?

Why didn't any other god offer their help to Nidal?

I dont even mean the good gods. Like Asmodeus certainly was willing to buy 1 country afterwards why not try before Cheliax?

Does anyone vtt use stonetop?

So I heard about stonetop from Quinns quest. Normally I don't care for powered by apocalypse style games but this one grabbed my interest!

However my group is scattered around the globe so we play solely through stuff like roll 20. Is there something that supports stone top?

So yeah like the title says I have the bare bones idea for 2 different campaigns that I can't decide between so Im essentially trying to see which concept people think is more interesting and how they could be improved! That way maybe my indecisive ass can make a decision!

Concept Uno: Thieves of Divinity. The players are an informal gang in Absalom, doing whatever jobs they can so that after the protection racket of larger gangs and bribing the guard they can still eat.

They happen to be just the right combination of completely unknown but semi competent for the schemes of some noble who wants to frame them as a ploy in the shadow war.

During which the players get unknowingly involved in a plot to destroy the starstone, and those involved in the plot naturally don't want any witnesses so the players have to find out about the details of it if for nothing else than self persevation. While also trying to make enough money not to starve.

Out of game plans: A sort of episodic mystery/ crime drama where the players have a chance to try their hand at reaching the star stone and becoming divine.

Concept II: Metal Eaters. The group is part of a merchant convoy heading through Numeria either as merchants, guards or merchandise. However the caravan is attacked by a robotic laser dragon. It happens to just shut down in the middle of it however it does directly in front of the players, making everyone think they killed it. Now a desperate group of freshly made refugees look for the party’s guidance on how to reach some place safe. And as desperate people do they are rather willing to look for salvation from somewhere it might not be, and become rather... Agressive if they found out their self conjured heroes are not as they imagined them to be.

Out of game ideas: Essentially I want the players to make and lead a brand new "barbarian" clan! I really fuck with the idea of Kingmaker but I am not a fan of how the rulers are expected to do dungeon diving. It doesn't really fit with my vibe of the idea.

But as leaders of a chaotic band who rely on them? I can see it make sense why they expect them to do the adventurer sthick and be rulers!

Like I get it it's the prison for essentially the anti big bang so naturally it would get more attention than other planets.

But like every god that managed ascend is from there? And even when the fate of the planet is not at stake, the gods have a weirdly personal touch like why would Asmadeus take such an interest in just taking 1 country over? Same with Nidal and their whole spiel.
