LSC Community Music Jam #6: POWERMETAL!!!!!
Hello Everyone!
Thank you all for participating in LSC’s fifth music jam - “Food”

The polling has concluded for LSC MUSIC JAM #6 and the Community has spoken!
For LSC’s MUSIC JAM #6 we will be exploring:
POWER METAL
Power Metal is big, dramatic, heroic, fast, melodic, emotional, and absolutely unashamed of being over the top.
This is the land of soaring vocals, blazing guitars, galloping drums, fantasy battles, glowing swords, dragons, prophecies, ancient kingdoms, tragic heroes, impossible quests, holy light, cursed crowns, final stands, and choruses so huge they sound like they were forged in a volcano by someone wearing a cape.
Power Metal can be triumphant, cheesy, sincere, theatrical, mythic, ridiculous, inspiring, or all of those things at the same time.
We could write about so many things, turn our feelings towards notions of:
- a hero rising from defeat
- a battle against impossible odds
- dragons, demons, kings, queens, gods, angels, monsters, or ancient machines
- a ridiculous quest taken completely seriously
- friendship, glory, destiny, vengeance, love, freedom, or the power of believing really, really hard XD
This one is a perfect excuse to go huge. Big hooks. Big riffs. Big drums. Big feelings. Big nonsense. Big sincerity.
You can make it traditional, or you can fuse it with something else: Power Metal x J-rock, Power Metal x synthwave, Power Metal x folk, Power Metal x orchestral trailer music, Power Metal x anime opening, Power Metal x chiptune, Power Metal x whatever glorious creature is currently screaming inside your soul.
For maybe some inspiration, here are some classic / gateway Power Metal tracks that might help you catch the vibe:
DragonForce — “Through the Fire and Flames”

“Through the Fire and Flames” is probably one of the most famous modern gateway songs for Power Metal. Fast, flashy, ridiculous, virtuosic, and completely committed to sounding like the final boss fight of a universe made of guitars.

“I Want Out” is one of the essential classics. Catchy, melodic, anthemic, and rebellious, it shows how Power Metal can be huge and theatrical while still being immediately singable.
Blind Guardian — “Mirror Mirror”

“Mirror Mirror” brings the fantasy storytelling side of Power Metal into full view. Dramatic vocals, mythic atmosphere, big melody, and that feeling of riding toward destiny whether you are emotionally prepared or not.

“Emerald Sword” is pure fantasy quest energy. Symphonic, heroic, gloriously dramatic, and absolutely packed with swords-and-destiny grandeur.

“Hunting High and Low” is a great example of the bright, uplifting, melodic side of Power Metal. It is soaring, emotional, and built around the kind of chorus that makes you want to stare into the sunrise like you just remembered your true purpose.
- These are just some starting points for understanding the sound: fast melodic guitars, huge choruses, dramatic vocals, fantasy imagery, galloping rhythms, orchestral energy, and the sacred art of being as sincere as possible while sounding completely larger than life.

not a whole bunch to it but I thought I would still share some of where it came from and how i moved through it
inspired by u/GenAI-Chan lemon posting, and by u/aMysticPizza_ 's "The Weirwoods"
told gpt "im thinking of an image of teeth and lips biting hard into a lemon, and im thinking of a dramatic image, like dramatic photography showing grit and malice. like these but with a lemon" with "The Weirwoods" as reference.
Got back this.
pretty happy with it. still played around, asked to add the yellow to the lemon, asked to make more feminine, got back this. yikes.
i dunno this just def didnt hit for me personally.
said can i get the grit back, try to find a middle ground between this and the last one, and i just want a ghost of yellow. it returned this.
cool, pretty close to the first, like the yellow more, i think i can work with it.
into microsoft designer - i dont know what the hell im doing lol this just came free with the pc, feel like what about bob - "I'm sailing!" but its fun dipping my toes in the water of editing and stuff.
i reframed it 9:16, rotated it within the frame , cut out the lemon,
you can see the little border around the lemon now where i cut it out in that pic, i layered under it but against the skin a vignette using a png from clean png because i needed more shadow on the skin but i didnt wanna obscure the lemon.
and then I messed around with color and contrast until i found a place i was happiest. i can spend forever sometimes it feels like playing with just things like brightness and shadow and contrast and stuff so sometimes i save too many as im trying to compare them and figure out what feels right, but this one i landed here pretty quick and felt like this is where i wanted to stay.
and thats where i landed. Thanks for giving me a place to share and for inspiring me to make art everyone here at LandOfDiffusion!

I just love how a commenter points out that amount is fair because of how the person you are selling the art to is going to use it.
- That how much a person should sell a piece of art for shouldn't depend on concrete things like material costs or hours spent etc, or even the quality of the art, the skill the artist has,
No, rather they suggest that how valuable your art is depends on how the person you are selling it to is going to use it. That feels really fucked to me.
And of course they imply that even $350 wouldn't be enough if a person would want to use it on a t-shirt or a sticker.

Alright, so… with all that being said…
As we approach the close of Music Jam #5, it’s time to start thinking about what we should pick for Music Jam #6!
We can vote this week, and then this upcoming Saturday, June 27th (ish — you know me!) we’ll wrap up Music Jam #5, celebrate all the music we made, and declare the winning selection to start Music Jam #6.
So, here are my thoughts for Music Jam #6:
For a theme option, I thought we could try Luck. That could mean good luck, bad luck, lucky numbers, cursed odds, lucky charms, black cats, broken mirrors, casino nights, dice rolls, near misses, miracle saves, unlucky love, superstition, fate, chance, or whatever strange little coincidence makes the story happen.
Or, if we want to challenge ourselves with a genre/vibe instead, we could try Power Metal. Big heroic vocals, fast guitars, soaring choruses, fantasy drama, galloping drums, epic battles, chosen heroes, cursed kingdoms, shining swords, ridiculous glory, and the kind of chorus that sounds like someone just discovered destiny on a mountaintop.
Or, for an instrumentation challenge, we could try Bassoon. Deep, woody, odd, expressive, playful, mournful, mysterious, cartoonish, elegant, or unsettling — it can sound like an old forest wizard, a sad duck, a haunted orchestra chair, or the weirdest lead instrument you didn’t know your song needed.
So, let’s vote!
