Can my employer ask me not to wear my medical ID bracelet to work?

Recently had an advanced care directive done up by my GP. Been wearing a medical ID bracelet to work for a week with no issue. It wasn't until Friday that my boss realised that it was a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) bracelet. I've now been told that being in a customer facing environment, that it was "inappropriate". Do I dare wear it to work tomorrow, or do I just keep the paperwork on me and hope if something does happen that someone checks my pockets.

PSA: Please state your location when posting

Hi guys, I've noticed a lot user recently posting without stating their location. Whilst I will concede that most posts here are American based, I've seen a lot of non-American users get given dangerously incorrect information.

Take for example here in Australia we used Asbestos in droves. It's not uncommon for entire houses to have every interior wall made with either blue or brown asbestos. It irks me when I see posts (that are obviously not in the US) with comments like "it was banned in 19XX" or "the walls would just be drywall/plasterboard". And this isn't taking into account the fact that there are 195 countries all throughout the world all with varying degrees of history and laws surrounding asbestos use.

Another unused piece of TFA concept art: The Black Ops TIE Fighter

Maybe it's the asymmetrical shape, but something really catches my eye with this particular TIE concept. This one is from The Artwork of TFA and was designed by long-time SW artist Ryan Church (who also designed Episode III Jedi Starfighter)

TIL: Plo Koon was originally supposed going to wield a lightsaber gauntlet in ROTS

EDIT: Supposedly

It even made its way into Plo Koon's 2008 TCW action figure. While exotic lightsabers seem more like a Sith thing, it would have been cool to see a Jedi with a unique lightsaber. Hope we see this design return in some capacity in the future.

Unused concept art for a Sequel era Star Destroyer.

I love the minimal space and the ball shaped control centre; reminds me of a Star Destroyer crossed with the Trade Federation battleships. It looks so menacing in red too.

I hope this ends up being a design they recycle into something cool in future.

EDIT: Another cool starfighter, the Black Ops Tie Fighter that was ditched in favour of an old design.

What alien races would you like to see as a Jedi in live-action?

As stupidly gimmicky as it sounds, my pick has always been a Jawa Jedi. Something about seeing one of these boys in Jedi robes, flipping around like Yoda and shouting "utinni" (don't ruin the character by teaching him basic) would bring me pure joy even if the story is bad.

Still pissed about thia retcon

I can't believe JJ thought we were dumb enough to believe Palpatine was all the sith, when George Lucas himself already established that Palpatine was the Senate. *this... goddamn

Instances where George Lucas version of galactic history or events contradict either EU or current canon?

An interesting quote from George Lucas in 2019 got me thinking...

> Everybody said, “Oh, well, there was a war between the Jedi and the Sith.” Well, that never happened. That’s just made up by fans or somebody. What really happened is, the Sith ruled the universe for a while, 2,000 years ago. Each Sith has an apprentice, but the problem was, each Sith Lord got to be powerful. And the Sith Lords would try to kill each other because they all wanted to be the most powerful. So in the end they killed each other off, and there wasn’t anything left. So the idea is that when you have a Sith Lord, and he has an apprentice, the apprentice is always trying to recruit somebody to join him -- because he’s not strong enough, usually -- so that he can kill his master.

>That’s why I call it a Rule of Two -- there’s only two Sith Lords. There can’t be any more because they kill each other. They’re not smart enough to realize that if they do that, they’re going to wipe themselves out. Which is exactly what they did.

Obviously this statement alone heavily contradicts both EU and current canon (where a lot of galatic history is based on the EU anyway), where we have multiple wars between the Sith and the Jedi/Republic.

Any other instances where GL's vision has had harsh clashes with expanded material?

Idea for a future instalment: a planet orbiting a black hole

Considering it's a scientific possibility (not that SW has ever cared anyway) I think it would be cool to see something like this in Star Wars one day. Since the Disney takeover we really haven't seen too many exotic and beautiful non-Earthly places bought to the big screen in live-action. I'd love to see a SW planet like this.

It's disappointing that JJ didn't honour Carrie Fisher's wish for a purple lightsaber

I'm not sure how widely known it is, but according to an interview (https://youtube.com/shorts/Acatxln0ih0?si=6QZStbVXsp-SulOf) Carrie Fisher did months before she died; she had been pushing for Leia's lightsaber to be purple. Even when they were doing concept art for TROS (above), they had Leia's wielding as purple lightsaber. Yet we got a generic blue for the final product.

For its plethora of problems, the way TROS handled Liea's character in face of Carrie's death isn't necessarily one of them. It still beats a recast or deepfake. But it just seems wild GL happily gave Mace one at Sam Jackson's request, but JJ couldn't honour a simple wish (that wouldn't have done any more harm to an already mess of a film) from the late Princess Leia herself? EDIT: Some people think I'm screaming from the rooftop as if this is the sequel trilogy's greatest sin. No. It's more so just saying it's disappointing they couldn't give Carrie Fisher a tiny bit of voice in the movie, when she was already robbed of the ability to have any voice.

Was George Lucas more willing to listen to the rest of his team when producing ROTS?

Even most of us die hard prequel fans will admit a lot of clunkiness in them, especially TPM and AOTC. Whilst ROTS does have some of these same shortcomings, quality wise it was leaps and bounds better than the first two.

By all accounts the problems with the prequels come from Lucas's team being unable to speak up when he (in his own words) "went too far in some places". After such a heavy backlash at Ep I and II, and the real need to stick the landing with the finale; do you think he loosened up on shooting down his teams ideas? It's obvious he still had 100% final say on everything. But it's really hard to figure out how he went from making the, generally, universally lowest ranked GL SW movies, to making a film some people now consider almost on par with the Originals.

AITAH for preparing my tomb stone in advance even though I'm young and healthy?

Bit of pretext, a very close friend passed away at age 36 a few years ago and since then my own mortality has constantly been at the front of my mind. I'm 32 with no diagnosed health conditions. But her death propelled me to make sure that everything is in place in the event something happens as soon as tomorrow. My partner (30F), of 7 years, has been fairly understanding until this week.

I'm currently in the process of securing a burial plot and, to ensure that it is engraved with what I want, a tombstone. It's not anything flash. Just a simple granite stone with a Biblical quote on it. But she has now gone mental over this one. Apparently my "obsession" with my own death has "crossed the line for healthy behaviour", and that I'm wrong wasting my money instead of using that money to buy us a house (which will never happen). Not only that but she keeps implying that these are symptoms of some type of suicidal tendencies.

My logic being that *no matter what*, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 years or 5 decades from now that burial plot and tombstone are my future. I can't change that. But apparently I should be treating my eventual death as "something for somebody else to sort out". I really think this has driven the biggest fork between us in the whole time we've been together.

Anyone know where I can source similar set of freestanding floor lamps?

Trying to find a set of freestanding lamps that might look similar to the ones used the the Red Room. Everything I turn up talks about the Saturn lamp (which I already have 3D printed). I'm not holding my breath that there's still any companies that would make similar styled ones. But I thought someone here might know

Getting back into writing after many years with a Tyber Zann fanfic. Does my idea sound compelling enough?

I know most people probably haven't played Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. I do ask in the hope that someone way more familiar with it, or overall SW lore, can help me.

Haven't written creatively for many years. But I'm stuck living in an older, untech, relative while I recover from a chronic injury. Started when I found another relative's old Heir to the Empire trilogy. Since I've gotten back into SW with a mix of both Legends and canon content.

Anyway, with potentially months left of recovery, I want to write a fanfic based in current canon about Tyber Zann. I loved Empire at War: Forces of Corruption when I was younger, but Zann was stuck as a character due to how overcrowded the old EU became. I intend to re-imagine his story more akin to Scarface in the SW universe. Pen hasn't hit paper yet, but I've got ideas. I'm just struggling to tie these ideas together.

- Set around 100BBY-80BBY, during the early days of the Republic's fall. The main reasons being that this time is a pretty blank space historically with a lot of freedom. But also that the Republic's slow decline into corruption opens pretty organically with Zann's ability to corrupt worlds.

- Centres around Zann and young smuggler named Neerios (working name). Neerios, after unknowingly being the fall-guy for a Hutt smuggling operation, gets sent to a Republic prison planet (that orbits a black hole) where he meets Zann. The two escape and return to Zann's allies in the Zann Consortium. But not all of their members are happy to see him back.

- Tyber Zann is a lot more ruthless than his original adaption. He starts out as his calm calculating self, but as his arc progresses, he slowly starts to become more unhinged. Part of me wants to include the stolen Holicron story from the original, having it be what errodes his sanity.

- Neerios is a young kid with a rebellious nature who got caught up in the wrong crowd. Not sure if human or alien. Comes from the planet Stattonx. Unknowingly shipping a large quantity of spice for a Hutt associate, he was busted and took the whole rap. While locked up he accidentally stumbles upon Zanns escape, and saves his life/escape plan. Zann gives Neerios an offer he can't refuse... Help him get out of jail and the Zann Consortium will help track down the Hutt that setup Nerrios.

- The planet Stattonx. Embracing the idea of Coruscant being Manhattan, these are the other boroughs of New York. Core world in a neighbouring system to Coruscant and has two sides. One side embraces the NY influence by having the SW twist on a gothic/art urban hub. The other side? Stattonx's government, irregardless of the health of its planet's citizens, has lined their own pockets by allowing Coruscant to dump their trash on that side of the world. It's a massive dump.

- Zann's new weapon of choice is a new design. An antique rifle used in the Sith Wars. Based on a musket, it's slow to fire, and the shots don't hit as hard as current weaponry. The weapon's saving grace being it's bayonet, which is actually a lightsaber. Even though Tyber Zann isn't a Jedi or Sith, my version is still strong enough in armed combat to make use of it against non-force users. I'm also imaging it being used in a scene akin to the Scarface chainsaw scene.

- Urai and Silri from the game will still appear. But I'm making significant changes to their roles in the story and where their characters end up.

- I'm on the fence about a Jedi plot. Do I have a Jedi sent out to pursue Tyber and Neerios after their escape? I need a good guy to eventually be Zann's foil, but I also don't want to fall into the "SW needs Jedi" trope. Not sure.

- But on the idea of Jedi, I've also got a spitball idea here, but it only works if I've already got another Jedi hero. I've got no idea how to work it into the story. The Jedi hero is captured an about to be executed by a clan of Hutts. At the last second one of the Hutts draws a lightsaber and cuts all the others down. The Hutt was actually a Jedi, working undercover in multiple Hutt syndicates for 300 years only to have his cover blown by the Jedi hero.

Like I stated just ideas. But as someone who actually wants to take a stab at writing a fanfic that stays loyal to the source material, do any of these ideas have merit?

Doctor says it's peroneal tendonitis, but in the span of 48 hours it's become the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Do I go to the hospital?

The pain in my foot/leg started to flare-up three days ago. I didn't even know what peroneal tendonitis was until my doctor looked at it and concluded that was what it was. He sends me home with exercises and a fact sheet. Come yesterday (after midnight in my time zone as I post this) the pain has doubled and I go to the urgent care clinic. By the time I get seen it's "too late for us to do imaging tonight" so I get sent home with a referral and painkillers.

I've now been home for eight hours and despite taking the prescribed Tranadol, the pain has just grown worse. This would even feel worse than when I broke a rib. I can't sleep, I can't keep my foot in a position that doesn't eventually start aching. But other than a mild swell, nothing else seems visibly wrong with my foot. No bruising, no redness, no massive loss of movement (just a lot of moves that hurt massively). Just 9 out of 10 on the pain scale. Am I crazy to go to hospital?

Latest rewatch. And I finally understand, and feel, why some original series fans didn't like The Return.

I'll preface by saying I still love S3, and without a doubt consider it to be the greatest piece of television ever made. But this is more of a personal anecdote on how my views on the show have changed as I've aged, rather than a critique of the show itself.

So I first watched TP in 2012, during quite a low point in my life. Its wholesome atmosphere and endearing characters helped carry me through. Even with the dark twist ending to S2, the final scene in FWWM gave me closure. Dale comforting Laura as her angel came to her in the lodge gave me the closure. Despite their horrible fates in the real world, they were both exactly where they were cosmically destined to be.

Then I was over the moon when S3 was announced. And completely blown away watching it week to week in 2017. At the time the tonal whiplash didn't hit me, because it still felt like a natural evolution of TP.

Now, after a never-ending series of life changing incidents over the last year, my latest rewatch has hit very much like my first watch. I've used Twin Peaks as a comfort show to help block out life's troubles. I reached the end of FWWM this time and I decided to stop. Why? Because I couldn't stand to watch Cooper move heaven and earth again just to lose in such a heartbreaking way. Two years ago a close friend of mine passed away, and the first time I finished S3 after her death it hurt. When the credits rolled I could only see myself as Cooper and her as Laura, whispering some deep cosmic secret I'm unable to accept.

But basically... Instead of FWWM's "Laura and Coop will be okay", S3 has always left me feeling that Laura and Cooper will never be okay. I get it. These are the exact confronting emotions that Lynch and Frost wanted to convey with S3. Wanting more and going as far as to bring back the dead will only leave you with a shell of the past. Albiet TP S3 is a beautiful shell. But this time I just couldn't bring myself to go any further than FWWM.

"There's no source material". Proceeds to somehow do an even worse adaption of one of the worst pieces of EU material

Look, truthfully I was glad for the EU wipe (or at least the post-ROTJ EU content) in 2014, and Dark Empire was the story I was glad was finally gone for good... Or so I thought.

Then TROS comes out, and it became apparently obvious that Palpatine's return and ultimate defeat were lifted straight from Dark Empire. There's just way too many coincidences. Yet it somehow worsens every element. The Eclipse takes more sense than a fleet of 40 year old, retrofitted Star Destroyers. Palpatine returns in a physically menacing way instead of a strung-up corpse. And his destruction via his fleet destroying force storm (granted not his final one in DE) is more logically explained as him losing control of his own power, rather than at the hands of someone with a year tops of force training. At least the Skywalker lineage survives DE too.

Damn I'd have never expected over a decade ago I'd come to prefer that trash over the proper "sequel trilogy" we got.

QLD. When standard issue plates expire, how long until the combination becomes available?

Not going to share exactly what it is. I've been waiting a whole decade for a very specific, standard QLD issued (not a personalised plate) NNN-LLL combination to become available. Finally this person has let their rego expire, and come 10 June the 3 month grace period for re-registration ends.

Hypothetically will the combination become available for purchase on PPQ that very day? I'd imagine they'd have their records synched with Main Roads fairly quickly, but I want this combination before someone else takes it.

Need help guys. Cat has gotten into this plant, need to make sure that it's not toxic to him

Long story short, had to move back in with family quite quickly due to a breakup. Not the most cat-proof house. Not even my family member who lives here can tell me what it is. The cat has been around this plant on and off for days, but he's suddenly been vomiting. Just need help to ascertain whether to take him to the vet

EDIT: God bless you guys. After reading the first few replies I didn't waste any time packing my cat up, and we're at the vet right now

They hired so much great acting tallent for the sequels, only to make their characters either unforgettable or horrible.

EDIT: Meant forgettable in the title!

Perspective here coming from a mix of cinema buff and Star Wars fan. One of the great things about I-VI were their use of (at the time of their releases) relatively unknown actors. But when they do introduce characters played by established and acclaimed actors (Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jsckson, etc) you really feel their characters presence on screen. Which is why generally, their characters stand out as fan favourites.

I got pretty excited when they announced TLJ, having cast Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro I had high hopes for their characters. I've seen them both act their guts out and give great performances for decades... Then Holdo is probably the most hateable and nonsensical character in the whole movie, and I can't even remember del Toro's character's name he was that bland. Not to mention, Richard E Grant struck every note so well in TROS, only for his character to really do nothing.

Somehow, Disney got handed the most unbeatable hand of cards and still walked away from the table a loser.
