help with LONG living room!

this is our current living room set up and I HATE IT! its the most functional for the space, but I feel lost.... the room has to be sectioned into two portions because the front door and the fireplace are smack dab in the middle. I feel like we need another rug but I dont know what kind or color. also, some of this looks a disaster/is temporary (yellow ottoman) because we just moved in.

Can someone reassure me it’s okay to only have 1 cat.

My partner and I just moved into a new place a month ago, and we took my aunts cat (2yo). She is absolutely precious. she’s not a big cuddler yet but 3 days ago she wouldn’t even come out from under the couch and now she’s jumping on the couch with us and occasionally on the bed. i’ve been bribing/rewarding her with treats when she does this which i think is good.

I knew it was bad to have a single kitten (especially if separated too young from mom) but we didn’t research having 1 cat at a more grown age. I’m finding out people almost always recommend still having 2 cats to avoid loneliness and behavioral issues. I know she’s only 2, but still. Our landlord won’t allow us to have 2 cats and it’s only been a week but I am going to feel so guilty when we leave her for work. I can’t tell yet how she is because she hasn’t fully settled in but she doesn’t seem to interact that much in play with a string toy. I also tried making a DIY toy with a box and cutting out holes to poke little mice through. she also didn’t like that lol. i’m hoping maybe she’ll get more playful as she settles with us because right now she isn’t having it. She also came from a crazy house with 2 toddlers and 4 badass young kids that likely terrorized her.

We got her a scratching pad that she won’t use yet (lol) and are hopefully getting a cat tree. We
have a cat hammock on the window that she also hasn’t used yet 😣 I’m fully dedicated to doing whatever i can to keep her engaged and enriched for as long as i need to. i recommend people saying at least 30 minutes of play per day. is that really enough? I see so many cat owners say their 2 cats play with each other all day long and are best friends so it really makes me feel guilty that she doesn’t have a buddy

has anyone done contact paper over LADMAKARE shelves? How hard would this be?

We love the walnut color and want to do mcm/walnut or real wood looking over these shelves because they’re the only ones we like but we HATE the oak. tips or suggestions?

overwhelmed for my new home, please read!

i’m 22F, moving into my own apartment (without roommates).

I have no clue what cleaners to use and more importantly WHEN. I also am trying to be low tox as much as I can, and on a budget.

I’ve been doing so much research but I feel like I always end up confused and more stressed out.

My main question: what cleaning products do you keep under your kitchen sink, & what products do you keep under your bathroom sink?

I ASSUME I need a multi purpose spray for both rooms as well as a disinfectant / anti bacterial ?? spray for both? I assume anti bac for wiping down the toilet (once a week?) and on surfaces after handling raw meat? I plan to do cutting boards and such just with hot soap in the sink but still. is there a need for anti bac / disinfectant in the kitchen?

I also plan to use baking soda/castile soap mix for tubs and grout etc. And I did buy a toilet bowl cleaner.

i got a hair up my ass and was gonna try to make my own for everything because i currently make my own multi spray with dr. bronners but we never disinfect anything in this roommate house and our shower is disvusting so we’ve never used anything on that either i don’t guess.

so… i ordered sal suds castile soap and plan to mix that with water in two glass spray bottles for my 2 multi purpose sprays (for general daily wiping of counters etc…?)

as for the kitchen/bathroom disinfectant or anti bacterial, what do you recommend? i also ordered white distilled vinegar, 70% alc, and some essential oils. am i hiking up the wrong tree? i have the recipes for a “disinfectant” spray, which is why i bought the ingredients in the first place, but is that what i need? 😩 and if so when😩 ugh. any help is appreciated.

rec. of paper for scrapbooking like this

i need to print photos like this that will hold up but not stick to each other when pages touch.

i ordered these “matte” photos from snap fish and they’re not that matte. they’re still quite glossy, therefor the pages stick together. any recommendations? some people recommend i just print at the library on printer paper but im worried the quality wouldn’t be that good/wouldnt hold up.

is the matte actually MATTE / if not, what paper would you use in my situation?

u/Lazy_Bird5781 — 2 months ago

how to print if i don’t have protective covers for pages?

I do minimalism style scrapbooking in a large sketchbook. if anyone is familiar with Cameron Nuttall on tiktok, it’s very similar to that style

i use a large canvas sketchbook and tape my photos in. therefore the pages do not have the protection over it that typical sketchbooks do.

i recently printed “matte” from snap fish to try for high quality but avoiding sticking of the pages together. they still seem very glossy? idk if they sent me the wrong type but i triple checked and my order AND envelope says matte.

what other types of pages should i try? printing at fedex would probably be easy for me but i dont know if the paper will hold up

Bad idea to commute via this route on ebike/vespa for work? (twice a week)

edit/ btw- i don’t live here yet. not familiar with routes though i’m not seeing a bus option on map. i will be living near christ. god a good job offer pretty far out. don’t know coworkers yet to car pull.

edit 2/ it’s sounding like if i do this, E-bike may be a better option. an hour is a long ass commute BUT, that’s basically a 30min car commute + a 30min workout. right? 😆😆

my partner and i only have 1 car for the next few months. i’ve only got $2000 in my savings and hours don’t line up to do car pulling. i’m trying to get to work thinking i could buy a used e-bike or vespa. what do you guys think?

new home, need minimal cleaning setup!

I am 22 and finally moving into my own apartment (not a dorm or shared house with others), so I finally get to have full control of everything!!

I hate having a whole ton of products and having to constantly buy stuff. Im trying to keep my routine pretty simple and non toxic where I can, but I'm not 100% committed if it cant work.

I know next to nothing about cleaning. Idk if what I do at my current apartment even works!

Please let me know of any homemade cleaning supplies you use that im looking for and any supplies/tools I should get.

What im for sure looking for:

  • mop/reusable mop head attachments (I probably only need 2)
  • broom/dust pan
  • something to dust with (??)

for all of that stuff ^ im eyeing the Ikea prepprig cleaning set. What do you guys think of this?

  • I plan to get a cordless vacuum

for cleaning products, I really want the stuff to smell good. I dont need it to be overwhelming but a little scent is nice. I must say I hate the smell of dawn and dawn power wash. I currently use mrs.meyers dish soap but I also love citrus and lavender scents.

  • surface cleaner (that smells good) for quick wipe downs of the kitchen/when Im dusting. But also, if it's in the kitchen, should it be CLEANING the surface too? At my apartment now I wipe down my kitchen counters every night with water and mrs. Meyers mix but idk if it even cleans anything
  • bathroom cleaner (for the toilet, around sinks, and in the shower?) can this be one product? if so, how do I make it?
  • mop solution for our natural hardwood floors (and tile in bathroom/kitchen) (currently, I just use the mrs. Meyers mix and water for that too, probably bad idea idk?)
  • I have a stainless steel stove/oven and fridge in my new home so maybe a solution for that
  • window cleaner

I also plan to get quite a few reusable cloths for cleaning, enough so I only have to wash the load once a week.

I keep trying to research but I often get stressed out because people typically have bleach, vinegar, and white vinegar (?) but I dont know what specifically they're using it for. I literally want someone to tell me how many cleaning bottles they have in their house and what each one has lol.

also, I dont have kids but I plan to have a cat in 1 month.

my friend wants my doodle on a white t shirt. i’m not crafty at all but want to do it for her birthday. would the best way to do this be to thrift a t shirt and then use an embroidery hoop (size?) and just hand stitch it after i sketch the same drawing on the shirt with pencil or something? is there a better way that im not thinking of? i dont have a sewing machine either

i’m so annoyed

what products do i need to use? i hate my skin. 22, 2 rounds of accutane.

i’ve always been gentle with it. i currently use stuff that doesn’t break me out. good molecules bar soap. illyoon ceramide moisturize. i’ve used 2 bottles of ordinary aloe&NaG solution. nothing

(moving) can i rely on my bike/public transportation to commute

Hello, i’m from NKY and am moving to cincinnati (from boston). i (unfortunately) signed a lease in mt. auburn right at the top of sycamore hill before deciding that i wasn’t getting my own car (my partner has one). i’m not a big biker in boston though i do ride occasionally and get pretty nervous. i’m trying to overcome it.

I’m not sure where i’m going to be working yet but that’s mostly what i’ll need to commute for. It will either be UC health, riverhills neurology, or the good samaritan hospital. MAYBE someone across the bridge in fort thomas.

Am i being totally unrealistic? i know i COULD get there with a bus but compared to the systems in boston i know its going to piss me off. so i’m really trying to use my bike but reading so much about cincinnati cyclist i feel like i haven’t read about anyone using their bike to commute. only leisurely rides like on trails and stuff.

any input on this?

i also want to mention im. 22 yo female so im not some big confident dickhead man. i’m worried people will pick on me

broke new grad trying to figure out finances + whether to get a car, e-bike, or nothing before i move

edit: formatting

i graduated college and am relocating from boston to cincinnati (my hometown) in september. plan for the next 2 years is to work full time, save aggressively, and prep for pa school. after that i honestly don’t know, but i’d like to eventually end up somewhere walkable/transit-friendly again.

my partner and i currently have zero cars between us, we just walk and use public transit. when we move she’ll have her own car. my main goal for the next 2 years is to just be stress free while working full time — save money, pay off debt, live a normal life.

i already know the “smart” answer is to just use the cincy bus system and skip a car entirely. but after 4 years of having no wheels of my own in school, i’m genuinely done walking everywhere. so i’m trying to figure out what actually makes sense for my situation, not just the objectively cheapest option.

the money situation (please don’t roast me, i know it’s rough):

\- credit card debt: amex $2,130, apple card $975.82, wells fargo $816.70 (0% apr)

\-discover loan: $580.67 left, $89/month

\-I paid off $5k in cc debt over the past year, so i am making progress

\-I make roughly $500-600/week at my grocery job right now

\-side hustle dog sitting this summer is bringing in a guaranteed $2,460 over the rest of the summer

personal savings: $1,200

\* rent for july/aug/sept is already paid, so mine and my partner’s combined cash is drained — $900 leftover total between us right now, adding $200/week until sept 1

\* we should be getting a $1,350 deposit back from our current place (fingers crossed)

\* starting in september my rent will be max $700/month including utilities

\* other fixed monthly costs: t-mobile $30, spotify $14 (covers me and my mom), amazon prime $6, groceries goal is $200/month per person (currently about $400 behind on that)

i really want to prioritize the credit card debt but i don’t think i can realistically wipe it out by september because i also need to save for transportation. trying to figure out how to balance both.

the three options i’m stuck between:

1.used e-bike/vespa/scooter, \~$1,000. could sell it later if i hate it. downside is i’m not a confident rider — i biked casually around boston but wouldn’t call myself good at it. could also just be a temporary bridge until i save for a real car.

2.used car, $4k or less, realistically kind of janky. probably the objectively smart move financially, no monthly payment, it’s mine outright. but it makes me feel sick thinking about it because i likely won’t even need a car in 2 years, insurance would be a real monthly hit, and a $4k car is going to need repairs. i’m not attached to owning a car at all, i just want something reliable enough to get around.

3.lease an older car. i genuinely don’t know much about this option. the appeal is a predictable, hopefully cheap month-to-month cost, but i have no idea if that’s realistic or a bad idea.

so — given the debt, the tight savings, and the 2-year timeline before things change again, which of these actually makes the most sense? and is there anything in my budget/debt payoff plan i should be doing differently before september?

Is choosing vespa/moped over a car a bad idea? [read desc]

I’m moving back to cincinnati from boston. I’m from fort thomas so i’ll be commuting to NKY a LOT. I am super broke and trying to pay off debt while moving. We plan to stay here for 2 years minimum and then head to another walkable/public t city, so i don’t know if putting so much money into a car is a good idea. i would get a used car for probably $5k max, but the cost of gas and insurance per month is sickening.

the good thing is i do have a standard bicycle, and my partner will have a car. so at minimum we will be a 1 car household which will be good for me to fall back on if i want to go far.

in NKY, the furthest i could ever see myself going on the moped/vespa is florence (i’d get a higher engine one so i can go on the highway) but even florence is probably a stretch? if i wasn’t so concerned with getting to NKY or burbs like Mason, i would just use my bike. but realistically i don’t think it’s convenient enough for me. I also am moving to the top of sycamore hill so doing that every day, even with an e-bike would be hard.

i’m just wondering, do you think a vespa/moped is a smart financial choice/is it soooo dangerous that i shouldn’t do it? I am a woman so im not some big burly confident man on the roads. In my mind it’s just a washed down motorcycle so IM really scared of safety, but since im not planning to go too far am i good?

also wanted to add ~ i know cincy does have public transportation but i know id get tired of it. although im from the area, being so used to bostons transportation system it would feel very foreign to me. im also just kind of ready to get on some wheels again

Moving behind christ hospital on dorchester, nervous

My husband and I are moving from New York for his job and our new apartment is located on Dorchester right near christ hospital.

Should I be concerned with this area, or specifically this city in general? We live on the outskirts of NYC so obviously we aren’t in the SAFEST living quarters, but I feel it’s every single day i’m seeing something outlandish happen here and i’m getting scared. It could be confirmation bias though? Maybe i’m subconsciously seeking news stories and then reaffirming these thoughts. Any reassurance would be great.

I want to make this bag more “plum” colored

i thrifted this bag today. it’s the baggalini brand. i had never heard of it until today but it feels similarly to my baggu and although i can’t find this specific model, the other products seem to compare to baggu in price.

my favorite color is purple, specifically plum or an eggplant (?) eggplant. now- this bag is a tad too vibrant. i’m not sure the color that it is specifically but it’s like a bright, deep purple.

if i use rit dye, what color would i use? is this even achievable?

i believe the fabric is nylon

help! photo paper or printer paper for this specific journal?

hello, im trying to do some minimal scrapbooking for my travel journal. I really would love to use a large, soft back moleskin journal. the only thing with using a regular journal is that the pages obviously do not have covers:

so, does anyone print with regular printer paper? I could print at the library for almost free if I did this- im just not sure how well the quality would be or if its even worth it?

if I did photo paper like printed at cvs or something, im worried the pages would stick together because I plan to put photos on each page. when I close it and open it I dont want stuff to stick.
