Bring back the Liberty Cup!

The Lions and the Rams face off at the line of scrimmage in 2015, the last year the Liberty Cup was played.

The Liberty Cup, which originated in 2002 between the two premier D1 colleges at the time in New York City (sorry Wagner) to commemorate and remember the events of 9/11, was last played in 2015 due to a lack of competitiveness after a streak of embarrassing Columbia losses (many of which took place during a 22 game losing streak).

However, now that the Lions are more competitive, and that Ivy Leagues have added a bye week (beginning the path to playing a full season) I think that all involved would like the return of the Liberty Cup - or maybe an all city tournament - to be restarted.

Imagine:

Wagner v Fordham - week of 9/4

Columbia v Fordham - week of 9/11

Columbia v Wagner - week of 9/18

This environment I believe will prove far more exciting to both alumni and students than listless games against Marist, for example (again, no disrespect intended), and may even draw in New Yorkers and expand the horizons of college football in the Big Apple!

What do you guys think?

https://preview.redd.it/pwa1brysgeph1.png?width=604&format=png&auto=webp&s=de29c5969e38bbecfce2529a3050210696fb3070

The Lions destroyed LIU at home earlier today 9-0. This 9 goal margin of victory sets a program record for most goals in a game, along with largest margin of victory.

The Lions were led by sophomore forward Izzy Kaczor, who tied the program record with 4 goals, and added on an additional assist to tie another program record with 9 points. She was helped by junior Jacinta Solari Etcheberry, who set yet another program record with 4 assists. She also added on a goal.

Congrats to Field Hockey on such a dominant performance and Go Lions!
