After prolonged constant heavy rains the ground gets so wet and then the winds blow.

Life on the farm in Western Australia’s Lower South West.
This is what happens, monster tree hits the deck. You feel the ground move, we just look at each other and say, that was a big one I wonder where that was?
Go out for a look and you couldn’t miss it.
That’s my 16 year old son, he’s 6’2” but this tree makes him look small.
He’s pretending to hold a chainsaw, it’ll need to be a big one and a dozer to move it. A job for another day after the storm passes.

The illegal tobacco trade is rampant, just go onto gumbook, it’s freely available right here in Perth

This tree has fallen over and blocked the road in the southern Forrests

The usual distance between the two towns is 35km, the shortest detour is 82km because there’s a river that runs through the area. Going to need a big chainsaw and most likely a dozer to move it off the road.

Last night’s lunar halo

I wanted to share a nice picture of the lunar halo from the lower south west of Western Australia where we are lucky enough not to have any light pollution around us.

Two different whales on the beach today within about 1 kilometre of each other

Driving along the beach today and I came across these two, sad to see really, it makes you wonder why this happens.
While here we witnessed less than 100 metres from the shore multiple humpback whales frolicking around, we don’t know how many but definitely more than one and definitely adults. We had good views of their tails and pectoral fins breaching the surface along with witnessing their blow on many occasions. They seemed to be hanging around in the same area for quite a while. Very lucky to have been there to see it.

Old car jacks found in my Grandpa’s old farm shed that he says nobody has been in there for 20 or 30 years.

My Grandpa is in his mid 90’s and this is from an old shed on his farm. There’s a car buried under so much stuff in there and he can’t even remember what it is, he reckons it’s been in there for 50 years or more.

Our coastline has seen a bit more erosion than usual this winter

Can anyone tell me what I’m looking at here. In my mind this area mustn’t have been eroded this deep like ever for there to be a perfect layer line like that, also those black mounds I have never seen before.
The sand on this beach is at least 2 meters lower than I’ve ever seen it just going on areas that still show what height the sand was.
It’s interesting just how much sand has been washed away, what’s causing this?

My Grandpa’s old farm shed is hiding all sorts

I asked my grandpa if I could go and look around in the old shed.
My Grandpa is in his mid 90’s and he said, if you’re brave enough nobody has been in there for 20 or 30 years. So I did and it’s a treasure trove of everything old.

Remember these days, hard to forget

Diesel is still 40 cents a litre dearer than it was and they haven’t even reinstated the fuel excise yet and that’s 25 cents a litre.
Yet people now think it’s cheap.
Will it ever go back to the price it was pre crisis?

The luckiest cat in the world has found his new home

We live in a rural area, we found this guy, he was just in the middle of the road. He was tiny and he had open wounds high up all the way around one back leg and on his side, looked like he’d been tangled up in something, maybe a vine or some wire from a fence or similar.
So we picked him up and took him home. The first thing we did was give him something to eat and drink, this poor little boy was starving, there wasn’t much of him. So looking at his wounds the only option was a visit to the vet, so the next morning we took him on a 80 kilometre car ride to our closest vet. $280 later with dressed wounds and antibiotics in hand we head back home.
This is him now in his nighttime enclosure, this was an enclosure the kids had for a couple of rabbits a few years back and is perfect for him now.
He was put in there full time while recovering from the injury’s he had for about two weeks.
Once he had healed we let him out. The first evening when he heard his dinner getting prepared he rushed to the door of the enclosure, so we thought ok great you can spend your nights in there if it’s going to be that easy.
He’s done the same thing every night since, he’s a free range cat during the day and happy to go into his enclosure each night.

This is the view from my veranda while I ponder the world.

My question is,
If a phone or laptop has the ability to for AI to respond instantly to anything you ask then what is the go with these huge data centres that seem to be getting built everywhere?
Where is this going, what’s the big picture look like?

Two completely separate trees have grown together as one

I noticed this while walking my dogs in the bush today, I find it incredible that this has happened. Is this sort of thing common?

I came across an adult humpback whale on the beach today.

Located in the lower south west of Western Australia, on the shores of the southern ocean.
It’s a rare opportunity to get this close to such a large whale, fortunately it doesn’t smell yet. I was surprised how far up the beach it is given its size and with the rocks in the water behind it. There’s also evidence of sharks having a feed on its side. I think this will be there for some time yet.

Life jacket found on the beach, should I report it.

This was found on the beach of the southern ocean in the lower south west of Western Australia. On a global scale this location is in close proximity to the missing flight MH370.
Do I bin it or report it?

Stages of a beautiful sunset from Lembongan.

Sitting on the beach, enjoying a cold beer with friends.
What more could you ask for than a view like this.
Love island life and love the Balinese people.

Tortoises having a quickie, slowly.

I don’t know if this was good timing or bad timing, but it was quite humorous listening to the young kids around us asking their parents questions like, what are they doing and why is one climbing on top of the other one.
The parents saying ummm, oh they are just playing and just having a piggy back ride.
It did remind my husband and I about being asked awkward questions when our kids were little.

We’ve got two resident wedge tailed eagles and I took a good picture this morning.

Cold morning with the foggy conditions made this a great picture I thought.
We’ve had these two eagles nesting on our farm for 5 years now, their nest is only about 150 metres from our home, it’s in a stand of big trees adjacent the paddocks. We’ve watched their young come and go over those years. They are pretty much used to us now and the repetitive movements around the farm don’t seem to bother them much.
They enjoy eating the remaining afterbirth when the cows calf and we often watch them swoop down for other prey.
We love sharing our farm with the native wildlife and we give them space they need, it’s proof that with some consideration we can coexist very well.

We found this cat, looks like it’s here to stay, help name him.

Obviously been dumped, we had a cat a few years back but she died after 17 years, living a long happy life. Looks like we got another one now. Made himself at home, bosses the dog around as they do. The family is in conflict over a name so we’re open to suggestions. Current names are, Nacho, Ginger, Cat and Stray. Choose your favourite one of those or suggest another one.

Can anyone tell me what these letters and numbers mean.

We were driving on a minor road in the bush, the white on it was what caught my attention. It’s been very recently trimmed back with a chainsaw but looking at the back part that’s white it’s obvious it’s quite old.
